Zaid bin Wahb Juhani narrated that he was among the squadron which was under the command of Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) and which set out (to curb the activities) of the Khawarij. 'Ali ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, ‘O people, I heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) say, ‘there would arise from my Ummah a people who would recite the Qur'an, and your recital would seem insignificant as compared with their recital, your prayer as compared with their prayer, and your fast, as compared with their fast. They would recite the Qur'an thinking that it supports them, whereas it is an evidence against them. Their prayer does not get beyond their collar bone; they would swerve through Islam just as the arrow passes through the prey. If the squadron which is to encounter them were to know (what great boon) has been assured to them by their Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) they would completely rely upon this deed (alone and cease to do other good deeds), and their (Khawarij’s) distinctive mark is that there would be (among them) a person whose wrist would be without the arm, and the end of his wrist would be fleshy like the nipple of the breast on which there would be white hair. You would be marching towards Muawiya and the people of Syria and you would leave them behind among your children and your property (to do harm). By Allah, I believe that these are the people (against whom you have been commanded to fight and get reward) for they have shed forbidden blood and raided the animals of the people. So, go forth in the name of Allah (to fight against them). Salama bin Kuhail mentioned that Zaid bin Wahb made me alight at every stage, till we crossed a bridge. 'Abdullah bin Wahb al-Rasibi was at the head of the Khawarij when we encountered them. He (Abdullah) said to his army, throw the spears and draw out your swords from their sheaths, for I fear that they would attack you as they attacked you on the day of Harura. They went back and threw their spears and drew out their swords, and people fought against them with spears and they were killed one after another. Only two persons were killed among the people (among the army led by Ali رضي الله تعالی عنہ) on that day. 'Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, find out from among them (the dead bodies of the Khawarij) (the maimed). They searched but did not find him. 'Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) then himself stood up and (walked) till he came to the people who had been killed one after another. He (Ali رضي الله تعالی عنہ) said, search them to the last, and then his companions found him (the dead body of the maimed) near the earth. He (Ali رضي اللهتعالی عنہ) then pronounced Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) and then said, Allah told the Truth and His Apostle ( صلىہللا عليه و آله وسلم) conveyed it. Then there stood before him 'Abida Salmani who said, Commander of the Believers, by Allah, besides whom there is no god but He, (tell me) whether you heard this Hadith from the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). He said, ‘yes, by Allah, besides Whom there is no god but Him. He asked him to take an oath thrice and he took the oath.
زید بن وہب جہنی رحمۃ اللہ علیہ بیان کرتے ہیں: کہ وہ اس لشکر میں شامل تھے جو حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے ساتھ تھا (اور)خوارج کی طرف روانہ ہوا تھا تو حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا: لو گو!میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فر تے ہو ئے سنا:"میری امت سے کچھ لو گ نکلیں گے وہ (اس طرح) قرآن پڑھیں گے کہ تمھا ری قراءت ان کی قراءت کے مقابلے میں کچھ نہ ہو گی اور نہ تمھاری نمازوں کی ان کی نمازوں کے مقابلے میں کو ئی حیثیت ہو گی اور نہ ہی تمھا رے روزوں کی ان کے روزوں کے مقابلے میں کو ئی حیثیت ہو گی۔وہ قرآن پڑھیں گے اور خیال کریں گے وہ ان کے حق میں ہے حا لا نکہ وہ ان کے خلا ف ہو گا ان کی نماز ان کی ہنسلیوں سے آگے نہیں بڑھے گی وہ اس طرح تیزرفتا ری کے ساتھ اسلام سے نکل جائیں گے جس طرح تیر بہت تیزی سے شکا ر کے اندر سے نکل جا تا ہے۔:"اگر وہ لشکر جو ان کو جا لے گا جا ن لے کہ ان کے نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی زبان سے ان کے بارے میں کیا فیصلہ ہوا ہے تو وہ عمل سے (بے نیاز ہو کر صرف اسی عمل پر) بھروسا کر لیں۔اس (گروہ)کی نشانی یہ ہے کہ ان میں ایک آدمی ہو گا جس کا عضد(بازو،کندھے سے لے کر کہنی تک کا حصہ) ہو گا کلا ئی نہیں ہو گی اس کے بازو کے سر ے پر پستان کی نو ک کی طرح (کا نشان) ہو گا جس پر سفید بال ہوں گے تو لو گ معاویہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اور اہل شام کی طرف جا رہے ہو اور ان(لوگوں) کو چھوڑرہے ہو جو تمھا رے بعد تمھا رے بچوں اور اموال پر آپڑیں گے اللہ کی قسم!مجھے امید ہے کہ وہی قوم ہے کیونکہ انھوں نے (مسلمانوں کا) حرمت والا خون بہا یا ہے اور لوگوں کے مویشیوں پر غارت گر ی کی ہے اللہ کا نا م لے کر (ان کی طرف) چلو۔سلمہ بن کہیل نے کہا: مجھے زید بن وہب نے (ایک ایک) منزل میں اتارا (ہر منزل کے بارے میں تفصیل سے) بتا یا حتیٰ کے بتا یا:ہم ایک پل پر سے گزرے پھر جب ہمارا آمنا سامنا ہوا تو اس روز خوارج کا سپہ سالار عبد اللہ بن وہب راسی تھا اس نے ان سے کہا: اپنے نیزے پھنیک دو اور اپنی تلواریں نیا موں سے نکا ل لو کیونکہ مجھے خطرہ ہے کہ وہ تمھا رے سامنے (صلح کے لیے اللہ کا نا م) پکا ریں گے جس طرح انھوں نے خروراء کے دن تمھا رے سامنے پکا را تھا تو انھوں نے لوٹ کر اپنے نیزے دو ر پھینک دیے اور تلواریں سونت لیں تو لو گ انھی نیزوں کے ساتھ ان پر پل پڑے اور وہ ایک دوسرے پر قتل ہو ئے (ایک کے بعد دوسرا آتا اور قتل ہو کر پہلو ں پر گرتا) اور اس روز (علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کا ساتھ دینے والے) لو گوں میں سے دو کے سوا کو ئی اور قتل نہ ہوا حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا ان میں ادھورے ہاتھ والے کو تلا ش کرو لو گوں نے بہت ڈھونڈا لیکن اس کو نہ پا سکے اس پر حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ خود اٹھے اور ان لو گوں کے پاس آئے جو قتل ہو کر ایک دوسرے پر گرے ہو ئے تھے آپ نے فر یا:ان کو ہٹاؤ تو انھوں نے اسے (لا شوں کے نیچے) زمین سے لگا ہوا پا یا۔آپ نے اللہ اکبر کہا پھر کہا: اللہ نے سچ فر یا اور اس کے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے (اسی طرح ہم تک) پہنچا دیا۔(زید بن وہب نے) کہا عبیدہ سلمانی کھڑے ہو کر آپ کے سامنے حاضر ہو ئے اور کہا اے امیر المومنین! اس اللہ کی قسم جس کے سوا کو ئی عبادت کے لا ئق نہیں!آپ نے واقعی یہ حدیث رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنی تھی؟ تو انھوں نے کہا: ہاں اس اللہ کی قسم جس کے سوا کو ئی عبادت کے لا ئق نہیں!حتیٰ کہ اس نے آپ سے تین دفعہ قسم لی اور آپ اس کے سامنے حلف اٹھاتے رہے۔
Zaid bin Wahb Juhni (Rehmatullahi Alaihi) bayan karte hain: ke woh us lashkar mein shamil thay jo Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) ke sath tha (aur) Khawarij ki taraf rawan hua tha toh Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) ne kaha: logo! main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko farmatay hue suna: "Meri ummat se kuch log niklein gay woh (is tarah) Quran parhein gay ke tumhari qiraat un ki qiraat ke muqablay mein kuch na ho gi aur na tumhari namazon ki un ki namazon ke muqablay mein koi haisyat ho gi aur na hi tumhare rozon ki un ke rozon ke muqablay mein koi haisyat ho gi. Woh Quran parhein gay aur khayal karein gay woh un ke haqq mein hai halanke woh un ke khilaf ho ga un ki namaz un ki hanslion se aagay nahi barhe gi woh is tarah tez-raftari ke sath Islam se nikal jayein gay jis tarah teer bohat tezi se shikar ke andar se nikal jata hai. Agar woh lashkar jo un ko ja lay ga jaan lay ke un ke Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki zaban se un ke baray mein kya faisla hua hai toh woh amal se (be-niyaz ho kar sirf isi amal par) bharosa kar lein. Is (giroh) ki nishani yeh hai ke un mein ek aadmi ho ga jis ka azad (bazu, kandhe se le kar kahni tak ka hissa) ho ga kalayi nahi ho gi us ke bazu ke siray par pistan ki nauk ki tarah (ka nishan) ho ga jis par safed baal hon gay toh log Muawiyah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) aur ahl-e-Sham ki taraf ja rahay ho aur in (logon) ko chorr rahay ho jo tumhare baad tumhare bachon aur amwal par aa parein gay Allah ki qasam! mujhe umeed hai ke wohi qaum hai kyunke unhon ne (musulmanon ka) hurmat wala khoon bahaya hai aur logon ke maweshion par gharat-gari ki hai Allah ka naam le kar (un ki taraf) chalo. Salama bin Kuhail ne kaha: mujhe Zaid bin Wahb ne (ek ek) manzil mein utara (har manzil ke baray mein tafseel se) bataya hatta ke bataya: hum ek pull par se guzray phir jab hamara aamna saamna hua toh us roz Khawarij ka sipahsalar Abdullah bin Wahb Raasi tha us ne un se kaha: apne neze phenk do aur apni talwarein niyamom se nikal lo kyunke mujhe khatra hai ke woh tumhare samne (sulha ke liye Allah ka naam) pukarein gay jis tarah unhon ne Haroora ke din tumhare samne pukara tha toh unhon ne laut kar apne neze door phenk diye aur talwarein saunt lein toh log unhi nezon ke sath un par pal paray aur woh ek doosray par qatl hue (ek ke baad doosra aata aur qatl ho kar pehloon par girta) aur us roz (Ali (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) ka sath daine wale) logon mein se do ke siwa koi aur qatl na hua Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) ne kaha un mein adhoore hath walay ko talash karo logon ne bohat dhoonda lekin us ko na paa sakay is par Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) khud uthay aur un logon ke paas aaye jo qatl ho kar ek doosray par gire hue thay aap ne farmaya: un ko hatao toh unhon ne isay (lashon ke neeche) zameen se laga hua paya. Aap ne Allahu Akbar kaha phir kaha: Allah ne sach farmaya aur us ke Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne (isi tarah hum tak) pohancha diya. (Zaid bin Wahb ne) kaha Ubaida Salmani kharay ho kar aap ke samne hazir hue aur kaha Ae Ameer-ul-Mominin! us Allah ki qasam jis ke siwa koi ibadat ke layak nahi! aap ne waqayi yeh hadees Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se suni thi? toh unhon ne kaha: haan us Allah ki qasam jis ke siwa koi ibadat ke layak nahi! hatta ke us ne aap se teen dafa qasam li aur aap us ke samne halaf uthatay rahay.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ بْنُ هَمَّامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ الْجُهَنِيُّ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي الْجَيْشِ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا مَعَ عَلِيٍّ - رضى الله عنه - الَّذِينَ سَارُوا إِلَى الْخَوَارِجِ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ رضى الله عنه أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " يَخْرُجُ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَيْسَ قِرَاءَتُكُمْ إِلَى قِرَاءَتِهِمْ بِشَىْءٍ وَلاَ صَلاَتُكُمْ إِلَى صَلاَتِهِمْ بِشَىْءٍ وَلاَ صِيَامُكُمْ إِلَى صِيَامِهِمْ بِشَىْءٍ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ يَحْسِبُونَ أَنَّهُ لَهُمْ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ لاَ تُجَاوِزُ صَلاَتُهُمْ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الإِسْلاَمِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ " . لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الْجَيْشُ الَّذِينَ يُصِيبُونَهُمْ مَا قُضِيَ لَهُمْ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِمْ صلى الله عليه وسلم لاَتَّكَلُوا عَنِ الْعَمَلِ وَآيَةُ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ فِيهِمْ رَجُلاً لَهُ عَضُدٌ وَلَيْسَ لَهُ ذِرَاعٌ عَلَى رَأْسِ عَضُدِهِ مِثْلُ حَلَمَةِ الثَّدْىِ عَلَيْهِ شَعَرَاتٌ بِيضٌ فَتَذْهَبُونَ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ وَأَهْلِ الشَّامِ وَتَتْرُكُونَ هَؤُلاَءِ يَخْلُفُونَكُمْ فِي ذَرَارِيِّكُمْ وَأَمْوَالِكُمْ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَرْجُو أَنْ يَكُونُوا هَؤُلاَءِ الْقَوْمَ فَإِنَّهُمْ قَدْ سَفَكُوا الدَّمَ الْحَرَامَ وَأَغَارُوا فِي سَرْحِ النَّاسِ فَسِيرُوا عَلَى اسْمِ اللَّهِ . قَالَ سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ فَنَزَّلَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ مَنْزِلاً حَتَّى قَالَ مَرَرْنَا عَلَى قَنْطَرَةٍ فَلَمَّا الْتَقَيْنَا وَعَلَى الْخَوَارِجِ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ الرَّاسِبِيُّ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أَلْقُوا الرِّمَاحَ وَسُلُّوا سُيُوفَكُمْ مِنْ جُفُونِهَا فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يُنَاشِدُوكُمْ كَمَا نَاشَدُوكُمْ يَوْمَ حَرُورَاءَ . فَرَجَعُوا فَوَحَّشُوا بِرِمَاحِهِمْ وَسَلُّوا السُّيُوفَ وَشَجَرَهُمُ النَّاسُ بِرِمَاحِهِمْ - قَالَ - وَقُتِلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ وَمَا أُصِيبَ مِنَ النَّاسِ يَوْمَئِذٍ إِلاَّ رَجُلاَنِ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ رضى الله عنه الْتَمِسُوا فِيهِمُ الْمُخْدَجَ . فَالْتَمَسُوهُ فَلَمْ يَجِدُوهُ فَقَامَ عَلِيٌّ - رضى الله عنه - بِنَفْسِهِ حَتَّى أَتَى نَاسًا قَدْ قُتِلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ قَالَ أَخِّرُوهُمْ . فَوَجَدُوهُ مِمَّا يَلِي الأَرْضَ فَكَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَبَلَّغَ رَسُولُهُ - قَالَ - فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ عَبِيدَةُ السَّلْمَانِيُّ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ لَسَمِعْتَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ إِي وَاللَّهِ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ . حَتَّى اسْتَحْلَفَهُ ثَلاَثًا وَهُوَ يَحْلِفُ لَهُ .
