Explanation of Surah Sabih Isma Rabbika Al-A'la

تفسير سورة سبح اسم ربك الأعلى

Mustadrak Al Hakim 3920

The Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite (سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْاَعْلَی) [Surah Al-Ala] in the first Rak'ah of Witr, (قُلْ یٰٓاَیُّھَا الْکٰفِرُوْنَ) [Surah Al-Kafirun] in the second and the four Quls [Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas] in the third. ** This Hadith is Sahih (authentic) according to the criteria of Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him), however, both Sheikhs (may Allah have mercy on them) did not narrate it with this chain of narrators. Nonetheless, Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it through Ibn Abi Abrahim, whereas, this addition is only proven through the narration of Yahya bin Ayyub, and this Hadith is also narrated with another chain. (which is as follows)

" ام المومنین حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا فرماتی ہیں : نبی اکرم ﷺ وتروں کی پہلی رکعت میں ( سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْاَعْلَی ) پڑھتے اور دوسری میں ( قُلْ یٰٓاَیُّھَا الْکٰفِرُوْنَ ) اور تیسری میں چاروں قل پڑھا کرتے تھے ۔ ٭٭ یہ حدیث امام بخاری رحمۃ اللہ علیہ اور امام مسلم رحمۃ اللہ علیہ کے معیار کے مطابق صحیح ہے لیکن شیخین رحمۃ اللہ علیہما نے اسے اس اسناد کے ہمراہ نقل نہیں کیا ۔ تاہم امام بخاری رحمۃ اللہ علیہ نے اس کو ابن ابی ابراہیم کے واسطے سے نقل کیا ہے جبکہ یہ اضافہ صرف یحیی بن ایوب کی روایت سے ثابت ہے اور یہ حدیث ایک اور سند کے ہمراہ بھی منقول ہے ( جو کہ درج ذیل ہے )"

Umm ul Momineen Hazrat Ayesha Radi Allaho Anha farmati hain : Nabi Akram SAW witron ki pehli rakat mein (Subbihisma Rabbikal A'la) parhte aur dusri mein (Qul Ya Ayyuhal Kafiruun) aur teesri mein chaaron Qul parha karte thay. ** Yeh hadees Imam Bukhari Rahmatullahi Alaih aur Imam Muslim Rahmatullahi Alaih ke miyaar ke mutabiq sahih hai lekin Sheikhain Rahmatullahi Alaihima ne isay is asnad ke hamrah naqal nahin kiya . Taham Imam Bukhari Rahmatullahi Alaih ne isko Ibn Abi Ibrahim ke wasite se naqal kiya hai jabkay yeh izafah sirf Yahya bin Ayub ki riwayat se sabit hai aur yeh hadees aik aur sanad ke hamrah bhi manqool hai ( jo keh darj zail hai ).

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ السَّهْمِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ طَارِقٍ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، قَالُوا: ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ "" يَقْرَأُ فِي الْوِتْرِ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى: سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى، وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ: قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ، وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ «هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» هَكَذَا إِنَّمَا أَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ وَحْدَهُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ وَإِنَّمَا تُعْرَفُ هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ فَقَطْ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ بِإِسْنَادٍ آخَرَ صَحِيحٍ [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] 3920 - على شرط البخاري ومسلم

Mustadrak Al Hakim 3921

‘Abdulaziz bin Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We asked Ummul Mu'minin ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite in Witr. She said: “He used to recite Surah Sabbih Isma Rabbikal A’la (Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High) [87] in the first Rak’ah, Surah Qul Yaa Ayyuhal Kafiroon (Say: O disbelievers) [109] in the second, and Surah Qul Huwallahu Ahad (Say: He is Allah, the One) [112] and Al-Mu’awwidhatain (the last two Surahs of the Quran: Surah Al-Falaq [113] and Surah An-Nas [114]) in the third.” ** This Hadith has been narrated on the authority of Yahya bin Ayyub by Imam of Hadith and Muhaddith of his time, Saeed bin Kathir bin ‘Afeer. I had searched for this Hadith when I was dictating the book of Al-Witr, but could not find it at that time. Later on, I found it.

" عبدالعزیز بن جریر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں : ہم نے ام المومنین حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے پوچھا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ وتر میں کیا پڑھا کرتے تھے ؟ آپ نے فرمایا : آپ پہلی رکعت میں سورۃ ( سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْاَعْلَی ) دوسری میں ( قُلْ یٰٓاَیُّھَا الْکٰفِرُوْنَ ) اور تیسری میں ( قُلْ ھُوَ اللّٰہُ اَحَدٌ ) اور معوذتین پڑھا کرتے تھے ۔ ٭٭ حدیث اور روایت کے امام الوقت حضرت سعید بن کثیر بن عفیر نے اس کو یحیی بن ایوب سے روایت کیا ہے ۔ میں نے کتاب الوتر کی املا کے وقت اسی حدیث کو ڈھونڈا لیکن اس وقت نہ مل سکی لیکن اس کے بعد مل گئی تھی ۔"

Abdul Aziz bin Jarir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kahte hain : hum ne Umm ul Momineen Hazrat Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) se poocha ke Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) witr mein kya parha karte the? Aap ne farmaya : Aap pehli rakah mein Surah (Sabbih Isma Rabbikal A'la) doosri mein (Qul ya Ayyuhal Kafiruun) aur teesri mein (Qul Huwallahu Ahad) aur Mu'awwidhatain parha karte the. ** Hadees aur riwayat ke Imam ul Waqt Hazrat Saeed bin Kathir bin Ufair ne isko Yahya bin Ayub se riwayat kiya hai . Main ne kitab al witr ki imla ke waqt isi hadees ko dhunda lekin us waqt nah mili lekin iske baad mil gayi thi.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنْبَأَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْجَزَرِيُّ، ثنا خُصَيْفٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْنَا عَائِشَةَ: بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْوِتْرِ؟ فَقَالَتْ: «كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكِ الْأَعْلَى، وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ، وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ بِقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَالْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ» قَدْ أَتَى إِمَامُ أَهْلِ مِصْرَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ وَالرِّوَايَةِ سَعِيدُ بْنُ كَثِيرِ بْنِ عُفَيْرٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ طَلَبْتُهَا وَقْتَ إِمْلَائِي كِتَابَ الْوِتْرِ فَلَمْ أَجِدْهَا فَوَجَدْتُهَا بَعْدُ "" [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] 3921 - سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

Mustadrak Al Hakim 3922

The Mother of the Believers, Aisha (peace be upon her) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite Surah "Al-A'la" and Surah "Al-Kafirun" in the first two rak'ahs of Witr prayer. And in the last rak'ah, he would recite Surah "Al-Ikhlas," Surah "Al-Falaq," and Surah "An-Nas."

ام المومنین حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا فرماتی ہیں : رسول اللہ ﷺ وتر کی پہلی دو رکعتوں میں سورۃ ’’ اعلیٰ ‘‘ اور سورۃ ’’ کافرون ‘‘ پڑھا کرتے تھے اور آخری رکعت میں سورۃ ’’ اخلاص ‘‘ سورۃ ’’ فلق ‘‘ اور سورۃ ’’ ناس ‘‘ پڑھا کرتے تھے ۔

Um ul momineen Hazrat Ayesha raziallahu anha farmati hain : Rasool Allah SAW witr ki pehli do rakaton mein Surah 'Aala' aur Surah 'Kafirun' parha karte thay aur aakhri rakat mein Surah 'Ikhlas' Surah 'Falaq' aur Surah 'Naas' parha karte thay.

حَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزَّاهِدُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ السُّلَمِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا، قَالَتْ: «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ يُوتِرُ بَعْدَهُمَا بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى وَقُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ، وَيَقْرَأُ فِي الْوِتْرِ بِقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ»

Mustadrak Al Hakim 3923

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he used to recite ( سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْاَعْلَی ), he used to say: " سُبْحَانَ رِبِّیَ الْاَعْلٰی الَّذِیْ خَلَقَ فَسَوّٰی " (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High, Who created and proportioned). This is the recitation of Abi bin Ka'ab (may Allah be pleased with him). ** This Hadith is Sahih (authentic) according to the criteria of Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him), but Sheikhayn (may Allah have mercy on both of them) did not narrate it.

" حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کے بارے میں مروی ہے کہ آپ جب ( سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْاَعْلَی ) پڑھتے تو کہتے :’’ سُبْحَانَ رِبِّیَ الْاَعْلٰی الَّذِیْ خَلَقَ فَسَوّٰی ‘‘ ( پاک ہے میرا وہ بلند رب جس نے درست تخلیق فرمائی ) یہ حضرت ابی بن کعب رضی اللہ عنہ کی قراءت ہے ۔ ٭٭ یہ حدیث امام بخاری رحمۃ اللہ علیہ اور امام مسلم رحمۃ اللہ علیہ کے معیار کے مطابق صحیح ہے لیکن شیخین رحمۃ اللہ علیہما نے اسے نقل نہیں کیا ۔"

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ke bare mein marvi hai ki aap jab ( Subhe Isma Rabbikal Aala ) parhte to kahte : Subhana Rabbiyal Aala Allazi Khalaqa Fasawwa ( Pak hai mera wo buland Rabb jis ne durust takhleeq farmae ) ye Hazrat Abi bin Kaab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ki qirat hai . ** ye hadees Imam Bukhari Rahmatullah Alaih aur Imam Muslim Rahmatullah Alaih ke miyaar ke mutabiq sahih hai lekin Sheikhain Rahmatullah Alaihima ne ise naqal nahin kiya .

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الْفَقِيهُ، ثنا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَشُرَيْحُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، قَالَا: ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا قَرَأَ {سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى} [الأعلى: 1] قَالَ: «سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّى» قَالَ: وَهِيَ قِرَاءَةُ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ «هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] 3923 - على شرط البخاري ومسلم

Mustadrak Al Hakim 3924

Saad bin Abi Waqas (may Allah be pleased with him) would say when reciting ( Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High ): "We will make you recite, so you will not forget." (Quran 87:6). You used to memorize the Holy Quran out of fear of forgetting. Qasim bin Rabia said, "I heard Saad (may Allah be pleased with him) reciting, 'We do not abrogate a verse or cause it to be forgotten..." (Quran 2:106). I said, "Saeed bin Musayyab (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite it as 'or cause it to be forgotten." So, Saad (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "The Quran was not revealed to Musayyab and his family. Allah Almighty says, 'We will make you recite, so you will not forget." (Quran 87:6) And He said, "And remember your Lord when you forget." (Quran 18:24) ** This hadith is sahih (authentic) according to the criteria of Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on them both), but the two Sheikhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not narrate it.

" حضرت سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ جب ( سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْاَعْلَی ) پڑھتے تو کہتے : سَنُقْرِئُکَ فَلَا تَنْسٰٓی ( ہم عنقریب تمہیں پڑھائیں گے پھر تم اسے نہ بھولو گے ) آپ بھولنے کے خوف کی وجہ سے قرآن پاک یاد کرتے رہتے تھے ( قاسم بن ربیعہ ) کہتے ہیں : میں نے سعد رضی اللہ عنہ کو یوں پڑھتے سنا ’’ مَا نَنْسَخْ مِنْ آيَةٍ أَوْ نُنْسِهَا ‘‘ مں نے کہا : سعید بن مسیب رضی اللہ عنہ اس کو ’’ اَوْ نَنْسَاھَا ‘‘ پڑھا کرتے تھے ۔ تو حضرت سعد رضی اللہ عنہ نے جواباً کہا : قرآن مسیب پر اور اس کی آل پر نازل نہیں ہوا ۔ اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے : سَنُقْرِئُکَ فَلَا تَنْسٰٓی اور فرمایا : وَاذْکُرْ رَّبَّکَ اِذَا نَسِیْتَ ( اور اپنے رب کو یاد کرو جب بھول جاؤ ) ٭٭ یہ حدیث امام بخاری رحمۃ اللہ علیہ اور امام مسلم رحمۃ اللہ علیہ کے معیار کے مطابق صحیح ہے لیکن شیخین رحمۃ اللہ علیہما نے اسے نقل نہیں کیا ۔"

Hazrat Saad bin Abi Waqas RA jab (Subhe Isma Rabbikal Aala) parhte to kehte: Sanuqriuka fala tansaa (hum anqarib tumhen parhayenge phir tum isay na bhulo gay) aap bhulne ke khauf ki wajah se Quran Pak yaad karte rehte thay (Qasim bin Rabia) kehte hain: maine Saad RA ko yun parhte suna ''Ma Nansakh min Aayatin Aw NUnsiha'' maine kaha: Saeed bin Musayyab RA is ko ''Aw Nansaahaa'' parrha karte thay. To Hazrat Saad RA ne jawab diya: Quran Musayyab per aur us ki aal per nazil nahi hua. Allah Ta'ala farmata hai: Sanuqriuka fala tansaa aur farmaya: Wazkur Rabbaka iza naseet **Yeh hadees Imam Bukhari RA aur Imam Muslim RA ke miyaar ke mutabiq sahih hai lekin Sheikhain RA ne isay naqal nahi kiya.

وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، أَنْبَأَ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، قَالَ: كَانَ سَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، إِذَا قَرَأَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ: "" {سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنْسَى} قَالَ: «يَتَذَكَّرُ الْقُرْآنَ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَنْسَىَ» قَالَ: وَسَمِعْتُ سَعْدًا يَقْرَأُ: {مَا نَنْسَخْ مِنْ آيَةٍ أَوْ نُنْسِهَا} [البقرة: 106] قُلْتُ: فَإِنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ يَقْرَأُ: أَوْ نَنْسَاهَا فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ: "" إِنَّ الْقُرْآنَ لَمْ يَنْزِلْ عَلَى الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَلَا عَلَى آلِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنْسَى} وَقَالَ: {وَاذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ} [الكهف: 24] «هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] 3924 - على شرط البخاري ومسلم
