Hazrat Abu Salma narrates that I asked Hazrat Aisha about the fasts of Rasulullah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). She said that sometimes the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would fast continuously in a month, so we thought he would not leave fasting. And sometimes he would leave fasting in such a way that we thought he would not fast. He used to fast the most in the month of Shaban. You would not fast less in Shaban, rather you would fast the whole of Shaban.
حضرت ابو سلمہ فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے حضرت عائشہ سے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے روزے کے بارے میں سوال کیا تو انھوں نے فرمایا کہ بعض اوقات نبی پاک (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کسی مہینے میں اس طرح مسلسل روزہ رکھتے تو ہم محسوس کرتے کہ آپ روزہ نہیں چھوڑیں گے اور کبھی آپ اس طرح روزہ رکھنے چھوڑتے کہ ہمیں محسوس ہوتا کہ آپ روزہ نہیں رکھیں گے۔ آپ سب سے زیادہ روزے شعبان کے مہینے میں رکھا کرتے تھے۔ آپ شعبان میں کم روزے نہ رکھتے تھے بلکہ پورے شعبان میں روزے رکھتے تھے۔

What is the reason for this?" He replied, "This is a month that people are heedless of. It is the middle month between Rajab and Ramadan. In this month, the deeds of people are raised to the court of Allah. I like that when my deeds are presented in the divine court, I am fasting."
حضرت اسامہ بن زید کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کیا اے اللہ کے رسول ! میں نے آپ کو شعبان میں اتنے روزے رکھتے دیکھا کہ رمضان کے علاوہ آپ کسی مہینے میں اتنے روزے نہیں رکھتے، اس کی کیا وجہ ہے ؟ آپ نے فرمایا کہ یہ وہ مہینہ ہے جس سے لوگ غافل ہیں۔ یہ رجب اور رمضان کا درمیانی مہینہ ہے۔ اس میں لوگوں کے اعمال اللہ کے دربار میں بلند کئے جاتے ہیں۔ مجھے یہ بات پسند ہے کہ جب میرے اعمال بارگاہِ الٰہی میں پیش کئے جائیں تو میرا روزہ ہو۔
