Regarding an adulterer; how many times is he asked to confess, and what is done after his confession?

Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 28767
Hazrat Naeem bin Hazal narrates that Ma'iz bin Malik was in the upbringing of my father. He committed adultery with a slave girl of the tribe, so my father said to him, "Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and tell him what you have done, he will seek forgiveness for you." And my father intended by this that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would find some way out for him. So he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed adultery, establish the rule of Allah's Book upon me." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned away from him. Then he came to you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) again; the narrator mentioned it four times. Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for the fourth time and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have committed adultery, establish the rule of Allah's Book upon me." Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Didn't you say this four times? So with which woman did you do it?" He said, "With such and such woman." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Did you have intercourse with her?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Did you have sexual intercourse with her?" He said, "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) again asked, "Did you have sexual intercourse with her?" He said, "Yes." The narrator says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave the order regarding him, so he was stoned and taken towards the land of Harrah. When he felt the hardness of the stones, he started moaning and trying to get out of the pain. Abdullah bin Anis met him and, upon investigation, found that his companions who were stoning him had become helpless. He tore off the thin part of his camel's calf and struck him with it, killing him. Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mentioned this before him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Why didn't you leave him? Perhaps he would have repented and Allah would have accepted his repentance."
حضرت نعیم بن ھزال فرماتے ہیں کہ ماعز بن مالک میرے والد کی پرورش میں تھے انھوں نے قبیلہ کی ایک باندی سے زنا کرلیا تو میرے والد نے ان سے کہا : تم رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس جاؤ اور جو تم نے کیا ہے اس بارے میں آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کو بتلاؤ وہ تمہارے لیے استغفار کریں گے۔ اور میرے والد نے اس سے یہ ارادہ کیا کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اس کے لیے کوئی راستہ نکالیں گے۔ پس وہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس آیا اور کہا : یا رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ! بیشک میں نے زنا کیا ہے آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) مجھ پر کتاب اللہ کا حکم قائم فرما دیں۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے اس سے اعراض کیا پھر آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس آئے یہاں تک کہ راوی نے چار مرتبہ کا ذکر کیا۔ پھر وہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس چوتھی بار آئے اور کہا : یا رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ! بیشک میں نے زنا کیا ہے آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) مجھ پر کتا باللہ کا حکم قائم فرما دیں اس پر رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا : کیا تم نے یہ بات چار مرتبہ نہیں کہی ؟ پس کس عورت سے کیا ؟ انھوں نے کہا : فلاں عورت سے آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : کیا تم نے اس سے ہمبستری کی ؟ انھوں نے کہا، جی ہاں ! آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے پوچھا : کیا تم نے اس سے وطی کی ؟ انھوں نے کہا، جی ہاں، ٓپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے پھر پوچھا ! کیا تم نے اس سے جماع کیا ؟ انھوں نے کہا : جی ہاں، راوی کہتے ہیں آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے اس کے متعلق حکم دیا تو اس کو سنگسار کیا گیا اور اسے حرہ کی زمین کی طرف لے جایا گیا جب انھوں نے پتھروں کی سختی محسوس کی وہ کراہتے ہوئے تکلیف سے نکلنے لگے۔ حضرت عبداللہ بن انیس اس سے ملے اور تحقیق اس کو مارنے والے ساتھی عاجز آگئے تھے انھوں نے اپنے اونٹ کی پنڈلی کا پتلا حصہ اکھیڑا اور ان کو اس سے مار کر انھیں قتل کردیا۔ پھر وہ نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی خدمت میں آئے اور آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے سامنے اس بات کا ذکر کیا۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : تم نے اس کو چھوڑ کیوں نہیں دیا شاید کہ وہ توبہ کرلیتا اور اللہ اس کی توبہ قبول کرلیتے ؟
Hazrat Naeem bin Hazal farmate hain ke Maaz bin Malik mere walid ki parwarish mein thay unhon ne qabeele ki ek bandi se zina karliya to mere walid ne un se kaha: tum Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke paas jao aur jo tum ne kiya hai is bare mein aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko batlao wo tumhare liye istighfar karenge aur mere walid ne is se ye irada kiya ke aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is ke liye koi rasta nikalenge pas wo aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke paas aaya aur kaha: Ya Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)! Beshak mein ne zina kiya hai aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) mujh par kitab Allah ka hukm qaem farma den aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne is se iraz kiya phir aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke paas aaye yahan tak ke ravi ne char martaba ka zikar kiya phir wo aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke paas chauthi baar aaye aur kaha: Ya Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)! Beshak mein ne zina kiya hai aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) mujh par kita ballah ka hukm qaem farma den is par Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne irshad farmaya: kya tum ne ye baat char martaba nahin kahi? Pas kis aurat se kiya? Unhon ne kaha: falan aurat se aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: kya tum ne is se hambistari ki? Unhon ne kaha, ji haan! Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne pucha: kya tum ne is se wati ki? Unhon ne kaha, ji haan, aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne phir pucha! Kya tum ne is se jima kiya? Unhon ne kaha: ji haan, ravi kehte hain aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne is ke mutalliq hukm diya to is ko sangsar kiya gaya aur ise Harrah ki zameen ki taraf lejaya gaya jab unhon ne pathron ki sakhti mehsoos ki wo karaahte huye takleef se nikalne lage Hazrat Abdullah bin Anis is se mile aur tahqiq is ko marne wale saathi aajiz aa gaye thay unhon ne apne unt ki pindli ka patla hissa ukheeda aur in ko is se maar kar inhen qatal kar diya phir wo Nabi Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki khidmat mein aaye aur aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke samne is baat ka zikar kiya aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: tum ne is ko chhod kyon nahin diya shayad ke wo tauba karleta aur Allah us ki tauba qubool karlete?
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ هَزَّالٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ مَاعِزُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فِي حِجْرِ أَبِي ، فَأَصَابَ جَارِيَةً مِنَ الْحَيِّ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبِي : ائْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبِرْهُ بِمَا صَنَعْتَ يَسْتَغْفِرْ لَكَ ، وَإِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ بِذَلِكَ لِيَجْعَلَ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا ، فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي قَدْ زَنَيْتُ فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الرَّابِعَةَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي قَدْ زَنَيْتُ فَأَقِمْ عَلَيَّ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ : « أَلَيْسَ قُلْتُهَا أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ ؟ فَبِمَنْ ؟»، قَالَ : بِفُلَانَةَ ، قَالَ : « هَلْ ضَاجَعْتَهَا ؟»، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : « بَاشَرْتَهَا ؟»، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : « هَلْ جَامَعْتَهَا ؟»، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَأَمَرَ بِهِ لِيُرْجَمَ ، فَأُخْرِجَ إِلَى الْحَرَّةِ ، فَلَمَّا وَجَدَ مَسَّ الْحِجَارَةِ خَرَجَ يَشْتَدُّ ، فَلَقِيَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُنَيْسٍ وَقَدْ أَعْجَزَ أَصْحَابَهُ ، فَانْتَزَعَ لَهُ بِوَظِيفِ بَعِيرٍ فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ فَقَتَلَهُ ، ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : « هَلَّا تَرَكْتُمُوهُ ، لَعَلَّهُ يَتُوبُ فَيَتُوبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ »
