Abu Sa'id (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that, about Allah's saying – [And thus we have made you a middle nation that you will be witnesses over the people and the Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) will be a witness over you.] (Al-Baqara - 143), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘the meaning of Wasata (وَ سَطًا) is just.’ Imam Tirmidhi said, this Hadith is Hasan Sahih. There is another chain for this Hadith from Abu Sa'id (رضي الله تعالى عنه) who narrated that, ‘the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, 'Nooh () will be called, and it will be said, ‘did you deliver (the Message)? He will say, ‘yes’ and his people will be called, and it will be said, ‘did he call you?’ They will say, ‘no warner came to us. No one came to us.' It will be said, ‘who will testify for you?’ So it is said, Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and his Ummah.’ He said, you will be brought to testify that he delivered (the Message) and that is His saying - [And thus we have made you a middle nation that you will be witnesses over the people and the Apostle ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) will be a witness over you.] (Al-Baqara - 143). And Wasata (وَ سَطًا) is just.’ Imam Tirmidhi said, this Hadith is Hasan Sahih. There is one more chain for the above Hadith with a similar narration.
