It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: "O 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah, if you take an oath to do something, then you see that something else is better, then do that which is better and expiate your oath."

حضرت عبدالرحمن بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے مجھ سے فرمایا اے عبدالرحمن بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ جب تم کسی بات پر قسم کھاؤ اور پھر کسی دوسری صورت میں خیر دیکھو تو خیر والے کام کو کرلو اور اپنی قسم کا کفارہ دے دو۔
Hazrat Ab dur Rehman bin Samra RA se marvi hai ke Nabi SAW ne mujh se farmaya aye Ab dur Rehman bin Samra RA jab tum kisi baat par qasam khao aur phir kisi dusri surat mein khair dekho to khair wale kaam ko karlo aur apni qasam ka kafara de do.
Narrated by Abdullah bin Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him): Once, during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I was practicing archery when a solar eclipse occurred. I threw my arrows aside and ran towards the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to see what he would do during the eclipse. When I reached him, he was raising his hands, engaged in the glorification, praise, and exaltation of Allah, and in supplication. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained in this state until the sun was bright again. Then, he recited two Surahs (chapters of the Quran) and led us in praying two rak'ahs (units of prayer).

حضرت عبدالرحمن رضی اللہ عنہ مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ کی حیات طیبہ میں تیر اندازی کررہا تھا کہ سورج کو گہن لگ گیا میں نے اپنے تیروں کو ایک طرف پھینکا اور نبی ﷺ کی طرف دوڑ پڑا تاکہ یہ دیکھ سکوں کہ کسوف شمس کے وقت نبی ﷺ کیا کرتے ہیں جب میں وہاں پہنچا تو نبی ﷺ نے ہاتھ اٹھائے اللہ کی تسبیح وتحمید اور تحمید اور تہلیل وتکبیر اور دعاء میں مصروف تھے نبی ﷺ اس وقت تک اسی عمل میں مصروف رہے جب تک سورج روشن نہ ہوگیا پھر آپ نے دو سورتیں پڑھیں اور دو رکعتیں پڑھائیں۔
Hazrat Abdur Rahman (رضي الله تعالى عنه) marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki hayaat tayyiba mein teer andazi kar raha tha ki sooraj ko gihan lag gaya mein ne apne teeron ko ek taraf phenka aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki taraf daud para taake ye dekh sakoon ki kusuf shams ke waqt Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) kya karte hain jab mein wahan pahuncha to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne hath uthaye Allah ki tasbeeh o tahamid aur tahamid aur tahleel o takbeer aur dua mein masroof thay Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) us waqt tak isi amal mein masroof rahe jab tak sooraj roshan na ho gaya phir Aap ne do suraat padhin aur do rakatain parhayeen.
Narrated Abdur Rahman bin Samurah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me, "O Abdur Rahman! Do not ask for leadership, for if you are granted it on asking, you will be left to discharge it yourself, but if you are granted it without asking, you will be helped (by Allah) in discharging its duties. And if you ever take an oath to do something and later on you find that something else is better than that, then do what is better and expiate for your oath."

Abu Labeed said that we participated in the Jihad of Kabul with Abdur Rahman bin Samrah (may Allah be pleased with him). People saw some goats at a place and they took them by force. Seeing this, Abdur Rahman ordered a caller to announce that I have heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “He who loots is not one of us, so return these goats.” So, the people returned the goats. Then, they distributed the goats equally amongst themselves.

ابولبید کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے حضرت عبدالرحمن بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ کابل کے جہاد میں شرکت کی لوگوں کو ایک جگہ بکریاں نظر آئیں تو وہ انہیں لوٹ کرلے گئے یہ دیکھ کر حضرت عبدالرحمن نے ایک منادی کو یہ نداء لگانے کا حکم دیا کہ میں نے نبی ﷺ کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ جو شخص لوٹ مار کرتا ہے وہ ہم میں سے نہیں ہے اس لئے یہ بکریاں واپس کردو چنانچہ لوگوں نے وہ بکریاں واپس کردیں تو انہوں نے وہ بکریاں برابر برابر تقسیم کردیں۔
Abulaibaid kahte hain ke hum ne Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Samrah razi Allah anhu ke sath Kabul ke jihad mein shirkat ki logon ko aik jaga bakriyan nazar aayin to wo unhen loot kar le gaye ye dekh kar Hazrat Abdur Rahman ne aik munadi ko ye nida lagane ka hukum diya ke main ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko ye farmate huye suna hai ke jo shakhs loot maar karta hai wo hum mein se nahi hai is liye ye bakriyan wapis kar do chunancha logon ne wo bakriyan wapis kar din to unhon ne wo bakriyan barabar barabar taqseem kar din.
Ammar bin Abi Ammar said: Once he passed by Abdur Rahman bin Samra, may Allah be pleased with him, who was at the canal of Umm Abdullah and was diverting water with some boys and servants. Ammar said to him, "O Abu Saeed, today is Friday." He replied, "The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to say, 'On the day when it is raining heavily, you should pray in your tents.'"

عمار بن ابی عمار کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ ان کا گذر حضرت عبدالرحمن بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس سے ہوا وہ نہر ام عبداللہ پر تھے اور لڑکوں اور غلاموں کے ساتھ مل کر پانی بہا رہے تھے عمار نے ان سے کہا اے ابوسعید آج تو جمعہ کا دن ہے انہوں نے فرمایا کہ نبی ﷺ فرمایا کرتے تھے جس دن موسلا دھار بارش برس رہی ہو تو تمہیں چاہیے کہ اپنے خیموں میں نماز پڑھ لو۔
Ammar bin Abi Ammar kehte hain ke ek martaba un ka guzar Hazrat Abdul Rahman bin Samrah razi Allah anhu ke paas se hua wo nehr Umme Abdullah par the aur larkon aur ghulamon ke saath mil kar pani baha rahe the Ammar ne un se kaha aye Abu Saeed aaj to jumma ka din hai unhon ne farmaya ke Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) farmaya karte the jis din musladhar barish baras rahi ho to tumhen chahiye ke apne khaimon mein namaz parh lo.
Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me, "O 'Abdur-Rahman! Do not ask for the post of a ruler, because if you are granted that post as a result of your request, then you will be left to discharge its duties by yourself, and if you are granted it without making any request for it, then you will be helped (by Allah) in discharging its duties. And if you ever take an oath to do something and later on you find that something else is better than that, then you should expiate your oath and do that which is better."

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Samrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “He who loots is not one of us.”

It was narrated from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Samurah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: “O ‘Abd al-Rahman, do not ask for rulership, for if you are given it because you asked for it, you will be left to your own devices, but if you are given it without asking for it, you will be helped (by Allah). And if you swear an oath to do something, then you see that something else is better, then do that which is better and offer expiation for your oath.”

It is narrated on the authority of Abdur Rahman bin Samra (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was preparing for the "Army of Hardship" (the Battle of Tabuk), Usman Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) brought one thousand dinars in a cloth and placed them in the lap of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) kept turning them over with his hand and said, "Whatever deed Ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) may do today, it will not harm him." He (the Prophet) repeated this sentence several times.

حضرت عبدالرحمن بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ جس وقت " جیش عسرہ " (غزوہ تبوک) کی تیاری کررہے تھے تو حضرت عثمان غنی ایک کپڑے میں ایک ہزار دینار لے کر آئے اور لا کر نبی ﷺ کی گود میں ڈال دیئے نبی ﷺ انہیں اپنے ہاتھ سے پلٹتے جاتے تھے اور فرماتے جاتے تھے کہ آج کے دن ابن عفان کوئی بھی عمل کریں وہ انہیں نقصان نہیں پہنچا سکے گا یہ جملہ آپ نے کئی مرتبہ دہرایا۔
Hazrat Abdar Rahman bin Samrah RA se marvi hai ki Nabi SAW jis waqt " Jaish Usra " (Ghazwa Tabook) ki tayari kar rahe the to Hazrat Usman Ghani ek kapre mein ek hazar dinar le kar aye aur la kar Nabi SAW ki god mein dal diye Nabi SAW unhen apne hath se palatte jate the aur farmate jate the ki aaj ke din Ibn Affan ko koi bhi amal karen wo unhen nuqsan nahin pahuncha sake ga yeh jumla aap ne kai martaba dohraaya.
