The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2149
Narrated by Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), that a man came to the court of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have grown very old, I am often sick, and it is very difficult for me to stand (in prayer). Please tell me a night in which I may be able to find Laylat al-Qadr." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Devote yourself to the seventh night of the last ten days (the 27th night)."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک آدمی نے بارگاہ رسالت میں حاضر ہو کر عرض کیا: یا نبی اللہ ﷺ ! میں بہت بوڑھا ہوگیا ہوں، بیمار بھی رہتا ہوں اور مجھ پر قیام میں بھی بڑی مشقت ہوتی ہے، آپ مجھے کوئی ایسی رات بتا دیجئے جس میں اللہ کی طرف سے شب قدر ملنے کا امکان ہو، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”عشرہ اخیرہ کی ساتویں رات (27 ویں شب) کو لازم پکڑو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas razi Allah anhuma se marvi hai ki ek aadmi ne bargah risalat mein hazir ho kar arz kiya: Ya Nabi Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! main bahut boodha ho gaya hoon, bimar bhi rehta hoon aur mujh par qayam mein bhi bari mushkil hoti hai, aap mujhe koi aisi raat bata dijiye jis mein Allah ki taraf se Shab e Qadr milne ka imkaan ho, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Ashra akhir ki saatvi raat (27th shab) ko lazim pakdo."
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، إِنِّي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ عَلِيلٌ، يَشُقُّ عَلَيَّ الْقِيَامُ، فَأْمُرْنِي بِلَيْلَةٍ لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ يُوَفِّقُنِي فِيهَا لِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ , قَالَ:" عَلَيْكَ بِالسَّابِعَةِ".
