Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5637
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that the Mothers of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with them) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about lengthening their garments. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) allowed them to lengthen their garments by the measure of a hand span. They said, "A hand span is not enough to cover us properly." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then take a cubit." So, when any of them wanted to make a shirt, she would lengthen it by a cubit and make it into her garment.

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ امہات المؤمنین رضی اللہ عنھن نے نبی ﷺ سے دامن لٹکانے کے متعلق پوچھا، تو انہیں نبی ﷺ نے ایک بالشت کے برابر دامن کی اجازت عطاء فرمائی، انہوں نے کہا کہ ایک بالشت سے ستر پوشی نہیں ہوتی، نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”تم ایک گز کر لو، چنانچہ جب ان میں سے کوئی خاتون قمیض بنانا چاہتی تو اسے ایک گز لٹکا کر اس کا دامن بنا لیتی تھیں۔“
Saina Ibn Umar Radi Allaho Anhuma se marvi hai keh ummaha tul momineen Radi Allaho Anhun ne Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam se daaman latkane ke mutaliq poocha, tou unhen Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne aik baalishth ke barabar daaman ki ijazat ata farmaai, unhon ne kaha keh aik baalishth se satar poshi nahi hoti, Nabi Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya: ”Tum aik gaz kar lo, chunancha jab in mein se koi khatoon qameez banana chahti tou usay aik gaz latka kar uska daaman bana leti thin."
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدٍ الْعَمِّيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الصِّدِّيقِ النَّاجِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ نِسَاءَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلْنَهُ عَنِ الذَّيْلِ، فَقَالَ:" اجْعَلْنَهُ شِبْرًا"، فَقُلْنَ: إِنَّ شِبْرًا لَا يَسْتُرُ مِنْ عَوْرَةٍ، فَقَالَ:" اجْعَلْنَهُ ذِرَاعًا"، فَكَانَتْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ إِذَا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَتَّخِذَ دِرْعًا أَرْخَتْ ذِرَاعًا، فَجَعَلَتْهُ ذَيْلًا.
