Chapter on the Purity of the Skin of Dead Animals through Tanning

Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 45
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abbas: The Prophet passed by the carcass of a sheep belonging to Maimuna's slave. The Prophet said, "Why didn't you skin it (and tan its hide)? You could then benefit by using it after tanning it." They (the companions) said, "O Messenger of Allah! It is dead (carrion)." The Prophet replied, "Only its eating is prohibited."

(٤٥) حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) حضرت میمونہ (رض) کے غلام کی مردار بکری کے پاس سے گزرے تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” تم نے اس کا چمڑا کیوں نہیں اتارا ‘ تم اس کو رنگتے اور نفع حاصل کرتے “ صحابہ کرام (رض) نے عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! یہ تو مردار ہے۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” صرف اس کا (گوشت) کھانا حرام ہے۔ “
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) se riwayat hai ke Nabi (SAW) Hazrat Maimoona (RA) ke ghulam ki murdaar bakri ke paas se guzre to aap (SAW) ne farmaya: "Tum ne iska chamra kyun nahin utara, tum isko rangte aur nafa hasil karte." Sahaba karam (RA) ne arz kiya: "Aye Allah ke Rasool! Yeh to murdaar hai." Aap (SAW) ne farmaya: "Sirf iska (gosht) khana haram hai."
(46) According to a narration from Maimunah (may Allah be pleased with her), these are the words (of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "(Why) did you not skin it, then tan its hide and benefit from it?"
Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) without mentioning Maimunah (may Allah be pleased with her). And in some places, he mentions Maimunah (may Allah be pleased with her). It was said to him that Ma'mar did not mention the word "tanning", and he said that Imam Zuhri denied tanning. So, Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) said, "I remember (this hadith) better than them."
Imam Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) said that a large group narrated from Zuhri, but they did not mention tanning, rather Sufyan bin Uyainah mentioned (tanning), and when there are supporting evidences, the abundance of trustworthy narrators is accepted.

(٤٦) حضرت میمونہ (رض) سے منقول روایت میں یہ الفاظ ہیں : (أَلاَ نَزَعْتُمْ إِہَابَہَا فَدَبَغْتُمُوہُ وَانْتَفَعْتُمْ بِہِ ) تم نے اس کا چمڑا کیوں نہیں اتارا، پھر اس کو رنگ لیتے اور نفع حاصل کرتے۔
سفیان (رح) نے ابن عباس (رض) سے روایت کرتے ہوئے میمونہ (رض) کا ذکر نہیں کیا اور بعض جگہ وہ میمونہ کا ذکر کرتے ہیں۔ ان سے کہا گیا کہ معمر ” فدبغوہ “ کا لفظ ذکر نہیں کرتے تھے اور کہتے تھے کہ امام زہری دباغت کا انکار کرتے تھے تو سفیان (رح) نے کہا : مجھے (یہ حدیث) ان سے زیادہ یاد ہے۔
امام بیہقی (رح) کہتے ہیں کہ زہری سے ایک کثیر جماعت نے روایت کیا ہے، لیکن انھوں نے دباغت کا ذکر نہیں کیا، بلکہ سفیان بن عیینہ نے (دباغت کا) ذکر کیا ہے اور جب شواہد موجود ہوں تو ثقہ کی زیادتی مقبول ہے۔
46 Hazrat Maimona (Razi Allah Anha) se manqol riwayat mein yeh alfaz hain : (Ala nazatum ihabaha fadabaghtumoho wantafatum bihi) tum ne is ka chamra kyun nahin utara, phir is ko rang lete aur nafa hasil karte.
Sufyan (Rahimahullah) ne Ibn Abbas (Razi Allah Anhu) se riwayat karte huye Maimona (Razi Allah Anha) ka zikar nahin kiya aur baaz jagah woh Maimona ka zikar karte hain. Un se kaha gaya ki Ma'mar "fadabaghu" ka lafz zikar nahin karte thay aur kahte thay ki Imam Zuhri dibaghat ka inkar karte thay to Sufiyan (Rahimahullah) ne kaha : mujhe (yeh hadees) un se ziyada yaad hai.
Imam Bayhaqi (Rahimahullah) kahte hain ki Zuhri se ek kaseer jamaat ne riwayat kiya hai, lekin unhon ne dibaghat ka zikar nahin kiya, balki Sufiyan bin Uyainah ne (dibaghat ka) zikar kiya hai aur jab shawahid mojood hon to siqa ki ziyadati maqbool hai.
Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas (RA): The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by the dead goat of Maimuna (RA) and said, "Why don't you skin it, tan its hide, and benefit from it?"

(٤٧) حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سیدہ میمونہ (رض) کی مردہ بکری کے پاس سے گزرے تو فرمایا : ” تم اس کا چمڑا اتار لیتے، پھر اس کو رنگتے اور اس سے نفع حاصل کرتے۔ “
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) se riwayat hai ki Nabi (SAW) Sayyida Maimoona (RA) ki murda bakri ke paas se guzre to farmaya: "Tum iska chamra utaar lete, phir isko rangte aur is se nafa hasil karte."
(48) It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the people whose goat had died: “Why did you not skin it and tan its hide, and then benefit from it?”
(b) Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), but he did not mention tanning in it.

(٤٨) حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ان لوگوں سے کہا جن کی بکری مرگئی تھی : ” تم نے اس کا چمڑا کیوں نہ اتارا اور تم اس کو رنگتے، پھر اس سے فائدہ اٹھاتے۔ “
(ب) سعید بن جبیر (رح) نے حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) سے روایت کیا ہے، اس میں دباغت کا ذکر نہیں ہے۔
(48) Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) se riwayat hai ki Rasul Allah (SAW) ne un logon se kaha jin ki bakri mar gai thi : ” Tum ne is ka chamra kyun nah utara aur tum is ko rangte, phir is se faida uthate. “
(b) Saeed bin Jubair (RA) ne Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) se riwayat kiya hai, is mein dibaghat ka zikar nahin hai.
(49) Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Any leather that is tanned becomes pure."
(B) Sufyaan bin Uyaynah said, "All the narrators are agreed upon the mention of tanning in this Hadith."

(٤٩) حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” جو چمڑا رنگ دیا جائے وہ پاک ہوجاتا ہے۔ “
(ب) سفیان بن عیینہ کہتے ہیں کہ تمام رواۃ اس حدیث میں دباغت کے ذکر پر متفق ہیں۔
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) se riwayat hai keh Rasool Allah (SAW) ne farmaya: "Jo chamra rang diya jaye woh pak hojata hai."
(b) Sufyan bin Uyaynah kehte hain keh tamam ruwaat is hadees mein dibaghat ke zikar par muttafiq hain.
Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) regarding the leather of a dead animal. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Indeed, tanning it removes its impurity and filth." Its chain of narration is authentic.

(٥٠) حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے مردار کے چمڑے کے بارے میں روایت کرتے ہیں۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” بیشک اس کا رنگنا اس کی پلیدگی اور نجاست کو دور کردیتا ہے۔ “ اس کی اسناد صحیح ہیں۔
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) Rasool Allah (SAW) se murdaar ke chamdan ke baare mein riwayat karte hain. Aap (SAW) ne farmaya: "Beshak iska rangna iski palidgi aur najasat ko door karta hai." Iski isnaad sahi hain.
Narrated Aishah (RA): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) allowed the use of the skin of a dead animal after tanning it.
Grade: Da'if
(٥١) سیدہ عائشہ صدیقہ (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے مردار کے چمڑے سے فائدہ اٹھانے کا حکم دیا جب کہ اس کو رنگ دیا جائے۔
Sayyida Ayesha Siddiqa (Razi Allahu Anha) se riwayat hai ke Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne murdar ke chamare se faidah uthane ka hukm diya jab ke us ko rang diya jaye.
Salma bin Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned from the battle of Tabuk, there was a waterskin hanging there. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked for water, but the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "It is (made of) dead animal skin." He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Its tanning purifies it."

(٥٢) سلمہ بن محبق (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) غزوہـ تبوک سے گھر کی طرف آئے تو وہاں ایک مشکیزہ لٹکا ہوا تھا۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے پانی مانگا تو صحابہ کرام (رض) نے کہا : وہ مردار (چمڑے کا بنا ہوا) ہے تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : ” اس کا رنگنا اس کا پاک کرنا ہے۔ “
Salma bin Muhabq (RA) se riwayat hai ki Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) Ghazwa Tabook se ghar ki taraf aaye to wahan ek mashkiza latka hua tha. Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne pani manga to Sahaba Kiram (RA) ne kaha: wo murdar (chamade ka bana hua) hai to Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: "Is ka rangna is ka pak karna hai."
