Chapter on the Imam Not Making Takbir Until He Commands Straightening of the Rows Behind Him
باب لا يكبر الإمام حتى يأمر بتسوية الصفوف خلفه
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 2288
Narrated Anas bin Malik (RA): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), after assuming the Iqamah and before saying Takbir, would turn towards the Companions (RA) and say, “Straighten your rows and stand close together, for I see you from behind my back.” Anas (RA) said: I saw that each person used to join his shoulder with the shoulder of his brother when he stood up for prayer.

(٢٢٨٨) سیدنا انس بن مالک (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اقامت کے بعد اور تکبیر کہنے سے پہلے صحابہ (رض) کی طرف متوجہ ہو کر فرماتے : اپنی صفوں کو سیدھا (برابر) رکھو اور باہم مل کر کھڑے ہوجاؤ، میں تم کو اپنی پیٹھ کے پیچھے سے دیکھتا ہوں۔ انس (رض) فرماتے ہیں : میں نے دیکھا کہ ہر شخص جب نماز کے لیے کھڑا ہوتا تو اپنا کندھا اپنے بھائی کے کندھے کے ساتھ ملا لیتا۔
2288 Saidna Anas bin Malik (RA) se riwayat hai keh Rasool Allah (SAW) iqamat ke baad aur takbeer kehne se pehle sahaba (RA) ki taraf mutawajjeh ho kar farmate : apni safo ko seedha (barabar) rakho aur baham mil kar kharay ho jao, main tum ko apni peeth ke peeche se dekhta hoon. Anas (RA) farmate hain : maine dekha keh har shakhs jab namaz ke liye khara hota to apna kandha apne bhai ke kandhe ke sath mila leta.
Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: When (the Prophet) had finished the prayer, he faced us and said: "Straighten your rows and stand close to one another, for I can see you from behind my back."

(٢٢٨٩) سیدنا انس بن مالک (رض) فرماتے ہیں : اقامت کے بعد رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ہماری طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور فرمایا : اپنی صفوں کو سیدھا کرلو اور ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ مل کر کھڑے ہوجاؤ۔ میں تمہیں اپنی پیٹھ کے پیچھے سے دیکھ لیتا ہوں۔
(2289) Syedna Anas bin Malik (RA) farmate hain : iqamat ke baad Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) hamari taraf mutawajja huay aur farmaya : apni safo ko seedha karlo aur ek doosre ke sath mil kar khare ho jao. Mein tumhein apni peeth ke peechhe se dekh leta hun.
Samak bin Harb narrated to me that I heard Nauman bin Bashir saying that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to straighten our rows as if he were straightening an arrow with it, until he was sure that we had learned from him. Then one day, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up for prayer, and he was about to say the takbir (Allahu Akbar) when he suddenly saw a man whose chest was protruding from the row. So he (ﷺ) said: "O slaves of Allah! Straighten your rows, or else Allah will cause discord between your hearts."

(٢٢٩٠) سماک بن حرب سے روایت ہے کہ میں نے نعمان بن بشیر کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ہماری صفوں کو درست فرمایا کرتے تھے، گویا کہ آپ اس کے ذریعے تیر سیدھا کر رہے تھے، حتیٰ کہ یقین کرلیتے کہ ہم نے آپ سے سیکھ لیا ہے۔ پھر ایک دن رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہوئے، آپ تکبیر کہنے ہی لگے تھے کہ اچانک ایک شخص پر آپ کی نظر پڑی، اس کا سینہ صف سے آگے نکلا ہوا تھا، آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : اے اللہ کے بندو ! اپنی صفوں کو ضرور سیدھا رکھو وگرنہ پروردگار تمہارے منہ ٹیڑھے کر دے گا۔
2290 Samak bin Harb se riwayat hai ki maine Nauman bin Bashir ko farmate huye suna ki Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) hamari safo ko durust farmaya karte thay goya ki aap uske zariye teer seedha kar rahay thay hatta ki yaqeen kar letay ki humne aap se seekh liya hai phir ek din Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) namaz ke liye kharay huye aap takbeer kehne hi lagay thay ki achanak ek shakhs par aap ki nazar padi uska seena saf se aagay nikla hua tha aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya aye Allah ke bando apni safo ko zaroor seedha rakho warna Parwardigaar tumhare munh terhe kar de ga
I heard Nauman bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) say that when we would stand for prayer, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would straighten our rows. When we were straight, then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would say the Takbir.

(٢٢٩١) حضرت سماک سے روایت ہے کہ میں نے نعمان بن بشیر (رض) کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا کہ جب ہم نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہوتے تو رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ہماری صفوں کو برابر فرمایا کرتے۔ جب ہم سیدھے ہوجاتے تب آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) تکبیر کہتے۔
2291 Hazrat Samak se riwayat hai ki maine Nauman bin Bashir (RA) ko farmate hue suna ki jab hum namaz ke liye kharay hote to Rasool Allah (SAW) hamari saffon ko barabar farmaya karte. Jab hum seedhe hojate tab aap (SAW) takbeer kahte.
Narrated Nafi: Umar bin Al-Khattab used to order the straightening of rows (in congregational prayers) and would say Takbir (Allahu-Akbar) when he was informed that the rows had been straightened.

(٢٢٩٢) سیدنا نافع سے روایت ہے کہ سیدنا عمر بن خطاب (رض) صفوں کو برابر کرنے کا حکم دیتے تھے (یعنی کچھ آدمیوں کی ذمہ داری لگا دیتے جو صفیں سیدھی کریں) جب وہ لوگ آکر خبر دیتے کہ صفیں سیدھی ہوگئی ہیں تب آپ تکبیر کہتے۔
(2292) Syedna Nafe se riwayat hai ki Syedna Umar bin Khattab (RA) saffon ko barabar karne ka hukum dete the (yani kuchh aadmiyon ki zimmedari laga dete jo saffen seedhi karen) jab wo log aakar khabar dete ki saffen seedhi hogayi hain tab aap takbeer kehte.
Abu Suhail bin Malik narrates from his father that I was with Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). The Iqamah (call to prayer) was announced while I was talking to him about my share. I continued talking to him, and he was straightening the mat with his foot until some people came to you, and you instructed them to straighten the rows (of the prayer). Then they came back and informed you that the rows were straight. So you said to me, "Join the row." Then you said the Takbir (Allahu Akbar).

(٢٢٩٣) ابو سہیل بن مالک اپنے والد سے نقل کرتے ہیں کہ میں عثمان بن عفان (رض) کے ساتھ تھا۔ اقامت کہہ دی گیٔ جب کہ میں ان سے اپنے حصے کے بارے میں باتیں کررہا تھا، میں ان سے مسلسل باتیں کرتا رہا اور وہ اپنے پاؤں سے چٹائی کو سیدھا کر رہے تھے، حتیٰ کہ آپ کے پاس کچھ لوگ آئے تو آپ نے ان کو صفوں کی درستگی پر مامور کیا۔ پھر انھوں نے آکر خبر دی کہ صفیں درست ہوچکی ہیں تو آپ نے مجھے فرمایا : صف میں برابر ہوجاؤ، پھر آپ نے تکبیر کہی۔
(2293) Abu Sohail bin Malik apne wald se naqal karte hain keh main Usman bin Affan (rz) ke sath tha iqamat keh di gai jab keh main un se apne hisse ke bare mein baaten kar raha tha main un se musalsal baaten karta raha aur wo apne paon se chatai ko seedha kar rahe the hatta keh aap ke pass kuch log aaye to aap ne un ko saffon ki durusti par mamur kya phir unhon ne aakar khabar di keh safin durust ho chuki hain to aap ne mujhe farmaya saf mein barabar ho jao phir aap ne takbeer kahi.
