Sunan al-Darimi 581

Abu Qilaba said: I stayed in Medina (Taybah) for three days and finished all my needs, except (waiting for) a man whom the people were expecting, who used to narrate hadith. I stayed in Medina until he arrived, and I asked him about the matters (of religion).

ابوقلابہ نے کہا: میں نے مدینہ (طیبہ) میں تین دن قیام کیا اور تمام ضروریات سے فراغت حاصل کر لی، سوائے ایک آدمی کے (انتظار کے) جس کے آنے کی لوگ توقع رکھتے تھے، جو حدیث بیان کرتے تھے، میں مدینہ میں ٹھہرا رہا یہاں تک کہ وہ آ گئے اور میں نے ان سے مسائل دریافت کئے۔

Abu Qulaaba ne kaha: mein ne Madina (Tayyaba) mein teen din qayam kya aur tamam zarooriyat se faraght hasil kar li, siwae ek aadmi ke (intazaar ke) jis ke aane ki log tawaqqo rakhte thay, jo hadees bayan karte thay, mein Madina mein thehra raha yahan tak ke woh aa gaye aur mein ne un se masail daryaft kiye.

(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، قَالَ: "لَقَدْ أَقَمْتُ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ ثَلَاثًا مَا لِي حَاجَةٌ إِلَّا وَقَدْ فَرَغْتُ مِنْهَا، إِلَّا أَنَّ رَجُلًا كَانُوا يَتَوَقَّعُونَهُ، كَانَ يَرْوِي حَدِيثًا، فَأَقَمْتُ حَتَّى قَدِمَ فَسَأَلْتُهُ".

`Abdul Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir said: I heard Basir ibn `Ubaydullah say: I would travel from city to city for the sake of a single hadith.

عبدالرحمٰن بن یزید بن جابر نے کہا: میں نے بسر بن عبیداللہ کو سنا، وہ فرماتے تھے: میں ایک حدیث سننے کے لئے شہر در شہر سفر کرتا ہوں۔

Abdulrahman bin Yazid bin Jabir ne kaha: main ne Basr bin Ubaidullah ko suna, woh farmatey thay: main ek hadees sunne ke liye shehr dar shehr safar karta hun.

(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بنْ مُسِلمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنَ بِنْ يزيدٍ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ بُسْرَ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: "إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَرْكَبُ إِلَى مِصْرٍ مِنْ الْأَمْصَارِ فِي الْحَدِيثِ الْوَاحِدِ لِأَسْمَعَهُ".

Sunan al-Darimi 583

Abu Al-Aliyah said: “We used to hear narrations from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in Basra. But we would not be satisfied until we traveled to Medina and heard those narrations from their blessed mouths.”

ابوالعالیہ نے کہا: ہم رسول اللہ ﷺ کے صحابہ سے مروی روایات بصرہ میں سنتے، چین نہ آتا تو مدینے کا سفر کرتے اور ان (صحابہ) کے دہن مبارک سے ان روایات کو سنتے۔

Abu Alaih ne kaha: hum Rasool Allah salAllahu alaihi wasallam ke sahaba se marwi riwayat Basra mein sunte, chain na aata to Madinay ka safar karte aur un (sahaba) ke dahan mubarak se un riwayat ko sunte.

(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ زُرَارَةَ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو قَطَنٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ، عَنْ أَبِي خَلْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، قَالَ: "كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ الرِّوَايَةَ بِالْبَصْرَةِ عَنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ نَرْضَ حَتَّى رَكِبْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، فَسَمِعْنَاهَا مِنْ أَفْوَاهِهِمْ".

Sunan al-Darimi 584

Abdullah bin Abdur Rahman Al Qushayri said: The Prophet of Allah, Dawud (David), peace be upon him, said: "Let the scholar acquire for himself an iron staff and iron sandals, and let him seek knowledge until his staff breaks and his sandals wear out."

عبداللہ بن عبدالرحمٰن القشیری نے کہا: نبی داؤد علیہ السلام نے فرمایا: ”صاحب علم سے کہو کہ لوہے کا عصا اور لوہے کے جوتے بنا رکھے، اور علم طلب کرتا رہے یہاں تک کہ لاٹھی ٹوٹ جائے اور جوتے پھٹ جائیں۔“

Abdullah bin Abdulrahman al-Qushayri ne kaha: Nabi Dawood Alaihissalam ne farmaya: ”Sahib ilm se kaho ke lohe ka asa aur lohe ke joote bana rakhe, aur ilm talab karta rahe yahan tak ke lathi toot jaye aur joote phat jayen."

(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ القُشَيْرِيّ، قَالَ: قَالَ دَاوُدُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "قُلْ لِصَاحِبِ الْعِلْمِ يَتَّخِذْ عَصًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ، وَنَعْلَيْنِ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ، وَيَطْلُبْ الْعِلْمَ، حَتَّى تَنْكَسِرَ الْعَصَا وَتَنْخَرِقَ النَّعْلَانِ".

Sunan al-Darimi 585

Abdullah ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I sought knowledge and I did not find more of it than with the Ansar. I would go to a man and inquire of him (about a matter). I would be told that he was sleeping. So I would make my cloak my pillow and lie down, until he came out at the time of Zuhr prayer. He would say, "O son of the Prophet's uncle! Since when have you been here?" I would reply, "For a while." He would say, "This is not right of you. Why did you not inform me (of your arrival)?" I would reply, "I preferred that you should come out after finishing your need."

سیدنا عبدالله بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا: میں نے علم تلاش کیا تو انصار کے پاس سے زیادہ کہیں نہیں پایا، لہٰذا میں آدمی کے پاس جاتا اور اس کے بارے میں پوچھتا، مجھ سے کہا جاتا کہ وہ سوئے ہوئے ہیں، میں اپنی چادر کا تکیہ بناتا اور پھر لیٹ جاتا، جب وہ ظہر کے وقت باہر آتے تو فرماتے: رسول اللہ ﷺ کے چچا کے بیٹے! تم کب سے یہاں ہو؟ میں عرض کرتا: کافی دیر سے بیٹھا ہوں، فرماتے: یہ تم اچھا نہیں کرتے، تم نے مجھے (اپنی آمد کے بارے میں) بتا کیوں نہیں دیا؟ میں عرض کرتا: میں نے چاہا کہ آپ اپنی ضروریات پوری کر کے باہر نکلیں۔

Saina Abdullah bin Abbas raziallahu anhuma ne farmaya: mein ne ilm talaash kiya to Ansar ke paas se zyada kahin nahin paya, lihaza mein aadmi ke paas jata aur uske bare mein poochta, mujh se kaha jata ke woh soye hue hain, mein apni chadar ka takiya banata aur phir lait jata, jab woh zohar ke waqt bahar aate to farmate: Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke chacha ke bete! tum kab se yahan ho? mein arz karta: kaafi dair se baitha hun, farmate: yeh tum achha nahin karte, tum ne mujhe (apni amad ke bare mein) bataya kyun nahin diya? mein arz karta: mein ne chaha ke aap apni zaruriyat poori kar ke bahar niklein.

(حديث موقوف) أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأُمَوِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مِنْ آلِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا: "طَلَبْتُ الْعِلْمَ فَلَمْ أَجِدْهُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْهُ فِي الْأَنْصَارِ، فَكُنْتُ آتِي الرَّجُلَ فَأَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ، فَيُقَالُ لِي: نَائِمٌ فَأَتَوَسَّدُ رِدَائِي، ثُمَّ أَضْطَجِعُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ إِلَى الظُّهْرِ، فَيَقُولُ: مَتَى كُنْتَ هَا هُنَا يَا ابْنَ عَمِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ؟، فَأَقُولُ: مُنْذُ زَمَنٍ طَوِيلٍ، فَيَقُولُ: بِئْسَ مَا صَنَعْتَ، هَلَّا أَعْلَمْتَنِي؟، فَأَقُولُ: أَرَدْتُ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ إِلَيَّ وَقَدْ قَضَيْتَ حَاجَتَكَ".

Sunan al-Darimi 586

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with both of them, said: I learned most of the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in that neighborhood of the Ansar. By Allah, I would go to a man from among them and it would be said that he was sleeping. If I wished, they would have woken him up for me, but I would leave him to sleep until he came out on his own. And I would thus learn hadith from him in a good way.

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا: میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کی زیادہ تر احادیث انصار کے اس محلے میں پائیں، قسم اللہ کی میں ان کے آدمی کے پاس جاتا تو کہا جاتا وہ سوئے ہوئے ہیں، اگر میں چاہتا تو میرے لئے انہیں جگا دیا جاتا، لیکن میں انہیں سوتا رہنے دیتا تا آنکہ وہ خود بخود باہر تشریف لائیں اور میں اس طرح ان سے اچھی طرح سے حدیث پڑھوں۔

Sayyidna Abdullah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne kaha: mein ne Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki zyada tar ahadees Ansar ke us mohalle mein payi, qasam Allah ki mein un ke aadmi ke paas jata to kaha jata woh soye hue hain, agar mein chahta to mere liye unhen jaga diya jata, lekin mein unhen sota rahne deta taa anke woh khud ba khud bahar tashreef laye aur mein is tarah un se achhi tarah se hadees parhun.

(حديث موقوف) أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: "وُجِدَ أَكْثَرُ حَدِيثِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِنْدَ هَذَا الْحَيِّ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَاللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُ لَآتِي الرَّجُلَ مِنْهُمْ، فَيُقَالُ: هُوَ نَائِمٌ، فَلَوْ شِئْتُ أَنْ يُوقَظَ لِي، فَأَدَعُهُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ لِأَسْتَطِيبَ بِذَلِكَ حَدِيثَهُ".

Sunan al-Darimi 587

Abu Salama (bin 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf) said: If I had accompanied Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), I would have acquired much knowledge from him.


Grade: Sahih

ابوسلمہ (بن عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف) نے کہا: اگر میں نے سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کی رفاقت اختیار کی ہوتی تو ان سے بہت سا علم حاصل کر لیتا۔

Abusalma (bin Abdurrahman bin Auf) ne kaha: agar maine Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ki rafaqat ikhtiyar ki hoti to unse bahut sa ilm hasil kar leta.

(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: "لَوْ رَفَقْتُ بِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، لَأَصَبْتُ مِنْهُ عِلْمًا كَثِيرًا".

Sunan al-Darimi 588

Imam Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "I used to go to the door of Urwah ibn al-Zubayr and, due to the reverence and respect I held for him, I would remain seated there, although I could have entered (his house)."

امام زہری رحمہ اللہ نے کہا: میں عروہ بن الزبیر کے دروازے پر جاتا تو ان کی جلالت شان و توقیر کے سبب وہیں بیٹھ رہتا حالانکہ چاہتا تو (اندر) داخل بھی ہو جاتا۔

Imam Zuhri rahmatullah alaih ne kaha: mein Urwah bin al-Zubair ke darwaze par jata to un ki jalalat shan o taqir ke sabab wahin baith rehta halanki chahta to (andar) dakhil bhi ho jata.

(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: "كُنْتُ آتِي بَابَ عُرْوَةَ، فَأَجْلِسُ بِالْبَابِ، وَلَوْ شِئْتُ أَنْ أَدْخُلَ لَدَخَلْتُ، وَلَكِنْ إِجْلَالًا لَهُ".

Sunan al-Darimi 589

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away, I said to a man from the Ansar: "O brother! Come, let us inquire from the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as they are present in large numbers today." He replied: "O son of Abbas! What a strange thing you say! Do you think that the people, in the presence of so many Companions of the Messenger, would be in need of you?" So they left, and I turned my attention to seeking knowledge. Whenever I came across a hadith, I would go to them (the Ansar brother). He would be taking a midday nap, and I would tie the rope of my tent to his door. Dust would cover my face from the wind. He would come out, see me, and say: "O son of the paternal uncle of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! Why did you come? You could have sent someone, and I would have come myself." I would say: "No, I am more in need of coming to you." Then I would ask him about that hadith. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "They (the Ansar Companion) lived for a long time, until I saw people gathering around me. He said: 'This young man was more intelligent than me.'"

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا: جب رسول اللہ ﷺ کی وفات ہوئی تو میں نے انصار کے ایک آدمی سے کہا: اے بھائی! آؤ ہم نبی ﷺ کے صحابہ سے استفسار کریں، آج وہ کثیر تعداد میں موجود ہیں۔ انہوں نے جواب دیا: عباس کے بیٹے! کیسی عجیب بات کہتے ہو؟ کیا تم سوچتے ہو کہ لوگ اتنے سارے اصحاب رسول کی موجودگی میں تمہارے محتاج ہوں گے؟ پس انہوں نے ترک کیا اور میں نے سوال کرنے کی طرف توجہ کی، پس جب مجھے کوئی حدیث پہنچتی تو میں ان (انصاری بھائی) کے پاس جاتا، وہ قیلولہ کرتے ہوتے، ان کے دروازے پر چادر کا تکیہ لگا لیتا، ہوا سے میرے چہرے پر غبار چھا جاتا، وہ باہر آتے مجھے دیکھتے تو فرماتے: اے رسول اللہ ﷺ کے چچا کے بیٹے! کیوں آئے؟ کسی کو بھیج دیتے، میں خود حاضر ہو جاتا، میں عرض کرتا: نہیں، میں ہی زیادہ محتاج ہوں کہ آپ کے پاس آؤں، پھر میں ان سے اس حدیث کے بارے میں پوچھتا۔ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا: وہ (انصاری صحابی) لمبی مدت تک حیات رہے یہاں تک کہ مجھے دیکھا لوگ میرے پاس جمع ہوتے ہیں، فرمایا: یہ نوجوان مجھ سے زیادہ عقل مند تھا۔

Sayyidna Abdullah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne farmaya: Jab Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki wafat hui to maine Ansar ke ek aadmi se kaha: Ae bhai! Aao hum Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke Sahaba se istafsar karen, aaj wo kaseer tadad mein mojood hain. Unhon ne jawab diya: Abbas ke bete! Kaisi ajib baat kehte ho? Kya tum sochte ho ki log itne sare Ashab Rasul ki mojoodgi mein tumhare mohtaj honge? Pas unhon ne tark kiya aur maine sawal karne ki taraf tawajjuh ki, pas jab mujhe koi hadees pahunchti to main un (Ansari bhai) ke pas jata, wo qailoolah karte hote, unke darwaze par chadar ka takiya laga leta, hawa se mere chehre par ghubar chha jata, wo bahar aate mujhe dekhte to farmate: Ae Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke chacha ke bete! Kyon aaye? Kisi ko bhij dete, main khud hazir ho jata, main arz karta: Nahin, main hi zyada mohtaj hun ke aap ke pas aaoon, phir main unse is hadees ke bare mein poochhta. Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne kaha: Wo (Ansari sahabi) lambi muddat tak hayat rahe yahan tak ke mujhe dekha log mere pas jama hote hain, farmaya: Ye naujawan mujhse zyada aqal mand tha.

(حديث موقوف) أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: "لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قُلْتُ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ: يَا فُلَانُ، هَلُمَّ فَلْنَسْأَلْ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَإِنَّهُمْ الْيَوْمَ كَثِيرٌ، فَقَالَ: وَا عَجَبًا لَكَ يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، أَتَرَى النَّاسَ يَحْتَاجُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَفِي النَّاسِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ تَرَى؟ فَتَرَكَ ذَلِكَ، وَأَقْبَلْتُ عَلَى الْمَسْأَلَةِ، فَإِنْ كَانَ لَيَبْلُغُنِي الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ الرَّجُلِ فَآتِيهِ، وَهُوَ قَائِلٌ، فَأَتَوَسَّدُ رِدَائِي عَلَى بَابِهِ، فَتَسْفِي الرِّيحُ عَلَى وَجْهِي التُّرَابَ، فَيَخْرُجُ، فَيَرَانِي، فَيَقُولُ: يَا ابْنَ عَمِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، مَا جَاءَ بِكَ؟ أَلَا أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيَّ فَآتِيَكَ؟، فَأَقُولُ: لَا، أَنَا أَحَقُّ أَنْ آتِيَكَ، فَأَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ الْحَدِيثِ، قَالَ: فَبَقِيَ الرَّجُلُ حَتَّى رَآنِي وَقَدْ اجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ عَلَيَّ، فَقَالَ: كَانَ هَذَا الْفَتَى أَعْقَلَ مِنِّي".

Sunan al-Darimi 590

Abdullah bin Buraidah said: One of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went to visit Sayyidina Fazalah bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) who was in Egypt. When he reached him, Sayyidina Fazalah (may Allah be pleased with him) was giving water to his camel. He said, “Welcome." The man said, “I haven’t come for a visit. Rather, you and I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I hope you remember it?” He [Fazalah] asked: "What is it?" He said: "Such and such hadith."

عبداللہ بن بریدہ نے کہا: نبی کریم ﷺ کے اصحاب میں سے ایک شخص سیدنا فضالہ بن عبيد رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس گئے جو مصر میں تھے، وہ جب ان کے پاس پہنچے تو سیدنا فضالہ رضی اللہ عنہ اپنی اونٹنی کو پانی پلا رہے تھے، کہا خوش آمدید، اس شخص نے کہا: آپ کی زیارت کے لئے نہیں آیا، ہاں میں نے اور آپ نے رسول الله ﷺ سے ایک حدیث سنی تھی، امید ہے تمہیں یاد ہو گی؟ کہا: وہ کیا ہے؟ کہا: یہ اور یہ حدیث۔

Abdullah bin Buraidah ne kaha: Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke ashaab mein se ek shakhs Sayyiduna Fazalah bin Ubaid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke paas gaye jo Misr mein thay, woh jab un ke paas pahunche to Sayyiduna Fazalah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) apni untni ko pani pila rahe thay, kaha khush aamadeed, iss shakhs ne kaha: Aap ki ziyarat ke liye nahin aaya, haan maine aur aap ne Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se ek hadees suni thi, umeed hai tumhein yaad hogi? Kaha: Woh kya hai? Kaha: Yeh aur yeh hadees.

(حديث موقوف) أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ،"أَنَّ رَجُلًا مَنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَحَلَ إِلَى فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَهُوَ بِمِصْرَ، فَقَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَمُدُّ لِنَاقَةٍ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: مَرْحَبًا، قَالَ: أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ آتِكَ زَائِرًا، وَلَكِنْ سَمِعْتُ أَنَا وَأَنْتَ حَدِيثًا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، رَجَوْتُ أَنْ يَكُونَ عِنْدَكَ مِنْهُ عِلْمٌ، قَالَ: كَذَا وَكَذَا".
