Chapter on what to say after raising the head from bowing (Ruku')

باب: القول بعد رفع الرأس من الركوع

Sunan al-Darimi 1345

Salim narrated from his father (Sayyidina Ibn Umar Radi Allahu Anhu) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would begin the prayer, he would raise his hands up to his shoulders. Then when he would bow, he would do the same (raising his hands). Then when he would raise his head from bowing, he would do the same (raising his hands) and say, “Sami’ Allahu liman hamida, Allahuma Rabbana wa lakal hamd.” And he would not do so (meaning raise his hands) in the prostrations.

سالم نے اپنے والد (سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما) سے روایت کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ جب نبی کریم ﷺ نماز شروع کرتے تو کندھوں تک اپنے ہاتھ اٹھاتے، پھر جب رکوع کرتے تو ایسا ہی (رفع یدین) کرتے، پھر جب رکوع سے اپنا سر اٹھاتے تو ایسے ہی رفع یدین کرتے اور «سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، اللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ» کہتے، اور سجدوں میں ایسا نہیں کرتے تھے (یعنی رفع یدین نہیں کرتے تھے)۔

Saaim ne apne walid (Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a) se riwayat karte huye kaha ki jab Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) namaz shuru karte to kandhon tak apne hath uthate, phir jab ruku karte to aisa hi (rafa yadain) karte, phir jab ruku se apna sar uthate to aise hi rafa yadain karte aur «Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah, Allahumma Rabbana Walakal Hamd» kahte, aur Sajdon mein aisa nahi karte the (yani rafa yadain nahi karte the).

أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ، رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَذْوَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ، فَإِذَا رَكَعَ، فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّكُوعِ، فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، وَقَالَ: "سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ"، وَلَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ فِي السُّجُودِ.

Sunan al-Darimi 1346

Zuhair narrated from Salim that they narrated a similar hadith from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and he only said "Rab-bana wa lakal-hamd (Our Lord, to You be all praise)" and he did not say "Allahumma Rab-bana (O Allah, our Lord).".


Grade: Sahih

زہری نے سالم سے انہوں نے سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے اسی طرح کی حدیث روایت کی اور صرف «ربنا ولك الحمد» کہا (یعنی «اللهم ربنا» نہیں کہا)۔

Zahri ne Salim se unhon ne Sayyidna Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se isi tarah ki hadees riwayat ki aur sirf «Rabbana wa lak al-hamd» kaha (yani «Allahumma Rabbana» nahin kaha).

أَخْبَرَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أَنْبأَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، مِثْلَهُ. إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ:"رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ".

Sunan al-Darimi 1347

Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When the Imam says 'Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah' then you should say 'Rabbana Wa Lakal Hamd."


Grade: Sahih

سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”جب امام «سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ» کہے تو تم «رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ» کہو۔“

Syedna Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se riwayat hai keh Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Jab Imam “Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah” kahe to tum “Rab-bana walakal hamd” kaho.”

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: "وَإِذَا قَالَ الْإِمَامُ: سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، فَقُولُوا: رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ".

Sunan al-Darimi 1348

Narrated Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Verily, the Imam is appointed to be followed, so when he says 'Allahu Akbar' then say 'Allahu Akbar' after him, and when he bows then bow, and when he prostrates then prostrate, and when he (the Imam) says, 'Sami'Allahu Liman Hamida' (Allah hears he who praises Him) then say 'Rabbana Lakal Hamd' (Our Lord, to You is all praise), and if he prays standing then pray standing, and if he leads the prayer sitting then pray sitting, all of you."

سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”بیشک امام اس لئے ہوتا ہے کہ تم اس کی اقتدا کرو، جب وہ «الله اكبر» کہے تو تم اس کے بعد «الله اكبر» کہو، جب وہ رکوع میں چلا جائے تو تم بھی رکوع کرو، اور جب وہ سجدہ میں جائے تو تم بھی سجدہ کرو، اور جب وہ (امام) «سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ» کہے تو تم «اللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ» کہو، اور وہ اگر کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھے تو تم بھی کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھو، اور اگر وہ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھائے تو تم سب بھی بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھو۔“

Sayyidina Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne kaha: Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: “Beshak Imam is liye hota hai ke tum us ki iqtida karo, jab wo “Allahu Akbar” kahe to tum us ke baad “Allahu Akbar” kaho, jab wo ruku mein chala jaye to tum bhi ruku karo, aur jab wo sajdah mein jaye to tum bhi sajdah karo, aur jab wo (imam) “Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah” kahe to tum “Allahumma Rabbana Laka Alhamd” kaho, aur wo agar khare ho kar namaz parho to tum bhi khare ho kar namaz parho, aur agar wo baith kar namaz parhaye to tum sab bhi baith kar namaz parho.”

أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ , أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:"إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ، فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ، فَكَبِّرُوا، وَإِذَا رَكَعَ، فَارْكَعُوا وَإِذَا سَجَدَ فَاسْجُدُوا، وَإِذَا قَالَ: سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، فَقُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ، وَإِذَا صَلَّى قَائِمًا، فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا، وَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا، فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا أَجْمَعُونَ".

Abu Musa Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon and taught us our prayer and informed us of our Sunnah. (The narrator said): I think that you (the Prophet) said, "When the Iqamah for prayer is called, then one of you should lead the prayer. When he (the Imam) says the Takbir (Allahu Akbar), then you should also say the Takbir (Allahu Akbar). And when he recites 'Ghairil Maghdubi Alaihim Walad-Dallin', then you should say 'Ameen', may Allah accept your supplication. And when he (the Imam) says Allahu Akbar and bows down in Ruku', then you should also say Allahu Akbar and go into Ruku'. (But remember) the Imam will go into Ruku' before you and he will rise from Ruku' before you." The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "This (saying Takbir, going into Ruku', etc.) is in response to the Imam. And when he (the Imam) says 'Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah', then you should say 'Rabbana Lakal Hamd'." Or he said, "'Rabbana Lakal Hamd' - this is what Allah, the Exalted, has said on the tongue of His Prophet, 'Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah' (meaning, you say 'Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah', Allah has heard the one who praised Him)."

سیدنا ابوموسی اشعری رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے خطبہ دیا اور ہمیں ہماری نماز سکھلائی اور ہماری سنت بتلائی، (راوی نے) کہا: میرا خیال ہے آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”جب نماز کے لئے اقامت کہی جائے تو تم میں کوئی امامت کرائے پس جب وہ (امام) تکبیر کہے تو تم بھی تکبیر (اللہ اکبر) کہو، اور جب وہ «‏‏‏‏غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ» ‏‏‏‏ پڑھے تو تم آمین کہو، اللہ تعالیٰ تمہاری دعا قبول کر لے گا، اور جب وہ (امام) اللہ اکبر کہہ کر رکوع کرے تو تم بھی تکبیر کہو اور رکوع میں چلے جاؤ (لیکن خیال رہے) امام تم سے پہلے رکوع میں جائے گا اور تم سے پہلے رکوع سے اٹھے گا“، نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”یہ امام کے جواب میں ہے (یعنی تکبیر و رکوع و غیرہ) اور جب وہ (امام) «سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ» کہے تو تم «اللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ» کہو“، یا یہ فرمایا: ” «رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ» “۔ یہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے اپنے نبی کی زبان میں فرمایا: «سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ» . (یعنی آپ یہ کہیں: «سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ» اللہ نے اس کی دعا سن لی جس نے اس کی تعریف کی)۔

Sayyidna Abu Musa Ashari (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne kaha ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne khutba diya aur hamen hamari namaz sikhlai aur hamari sunnat batlai, (rawi ne) kaha: mera khayal hai aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Jab namaz ke liye iqamat kahi jaye to tum mein koi imamat karaye pas jab wo (imam) takbeer kahe to tum bhi takbeer (Allah Akbar) kaho, aur jab wo «Ghairil Maghdubi Alaihim Walad Dalli» padhe to tum ameen kaho, Allah Ta'ala tumhari dua kabool kar lega, aur jab wo (imam) Allah Akbar kah kar ruku kare to tum bhi takbeer kaho aur ruku mein chale jao (lekin khayal rahe) imam tum se pehle ruku mein jayega aur tum se pehle ruku se uthega“, Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Yah imam ke jawab mein hai (yani takbeer o ruku waghaira) aur jab wo (imam) «Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah» kahe to tum «Allahumma Rabbana Laka Alhamd» kaho“, ya yah farmaya: ” «Rabbana Laka Alhamd» “. Yah Allah Ta'ala ne apne nabi ki zaban mein farmaya: «Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah» . (yani aap yah kahen: «Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah» Allah ne uski dua sun li jisne uski tareef ki).

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ حِطَّانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الرَّقَاشِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَنَا فَعَلَّمَنَا صَلَاتَنَا وَسَنَّ لَنَا سُنَّتَنَا قَالَ: أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: "إِذَا أُقِيمَتْ الصَّلَاةُ، فَلْيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ، فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ، فَكَبِّرُوا، وَإِذَا قَالَ: غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلا الضَّالِّينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 7، فَقُولُوا: آمِينَ، يُجِبْكُمْ اللَّهُ، وَإِذَا كَبَّرَ وَرَكَعَ، فَكَبِّرُوا وَارْكَعُوا، فَإِنَّ الْإِمَامَ يَرْكَعُ قَبْلَكُمْ، وَيَرْفَعُ قَبْلَكُمْ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: فَتِلْكَ بِتِلْكَ، وَإِذَا قَالَ: سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، فَقُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَوْ قَالَ: رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ: سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ".

Sunan al-Darimi 1350

Our master Abu Saeed Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he would raise his head from bowing [in prayer], he would supplicate: «رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ ...... مَنْكَ الْجَدُّ» Meaning: "Our Lord, to You is due all praise, filling the heavens and the earth, and whatever is beyond that. You alone are deserving of all praise and majesty. Excellent is whatever Your servant has said [praising You], and we are all Your servants. O Allah, whomever You grant, none can withhold it, and whomever You deprive, none can grant it. And the wealth and status of the wealthy will not benefit them in Your sight."

سیدنا ابوسعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: رسول الله ﷺ جب رکوع سے سر اٹھاتے تو دعا پڑھتے تھے: «رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ ...... مَنْكَ الْجَدُّ» یعنی: ”اے ہمارے رب تمام تعریفیں تیرے ہی لئے ہیں آسمانوں اور زمینوں بھر، اور اس کے بعد جتنی تعریف تو چاہے، تو ہی تعریف اور بڑائی کے لائق ہے، بہتر ہے جو بندے نے کہا اور ہم سب تیرے ہی بندے ہیں، اے اللہ جو تو عطا فرمائے اسے کوئی روکنے والا نہیں، اور جس کو تو نہ دے اسے کوئی دینے والا نہیں، اور تیرے سامنے مال دار (صاحب منصب) کو اس کا مال (یا منصب) فائدہ نہیں دے گا۔“

Sayyidina Abusaid Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne kaha: Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jab ruku se sar uthate to dua parhte the: «Rabbana lakal hamdu ...... minkal jaddu» Yaani: ”Ae hamare Rab tamam tareefen tere hi liye hain aasmano aur zameeno bhar, aur uske baad jitni tareef tu chahe, tu hi tareef aur barai ke laiq hai, behtar hai jo bande ne kaha aur hum sab tere hi bande hain, Ae Allah jo tu ata farmaye use koi rokne wala nahi, aur jis ko tu na de use koi dene wala nahi, aur tere samne mal dar (sahib mansab) ko uska mal (ya mansab) faidah nahi dega.“.

أَخْبَرَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ قَزَعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّكُوعِ، قَالَ: "رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ، وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ، أَهْلَ الثَّنَاءِ وَالْمَجْدِ، أَحَقُّ مَا قَالَ الْعَبْدُ، وَكُلُّنَا لَكَ عَبْدٌ، اللَّهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ، وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ، وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَدُّ".

Sunan al-Darimi 1351

Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would raise his head from bowing, he would say: “Sami’allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana lakal-hamd mil’as-samawati wal-ardi wa mil’a ma baynahuma wa mil’a ma shi’ta min shay’in ba’d.” Imam Darimi, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked: Do you say this? He said: No. He was asked: Do you say this in the obligatory prayer? He said: Nearly. And he said that everything (that is authentically narrated) is correct to say.

سیدنا علی بن ابی طالب رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: رسول اللہ ﷺ جب رکوع سے سر اٹھاتے تو کہتے تھے: «سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْيءٍ بَعْدُ» ۔ امام دارمی رحمہ اللہ سے پوچھا گیا: آپ یہی کہتے ہیں؟ کہا: نہیں، پوچھا گیا کیا آپ فرض نماز میں اس طرح کہتے ہیں؟ کہا: تقریباً اور بتایا کہ سب کچھ (جو ماثور ہے وہ کہنا) درست ہے۔

Sayidna Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne kaha: Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) jab ruku se sar uthate to kahte the: «Sami Allahu Liman Hamidah, Rabbana Laka Al-Hamdu Mil'a As-Samawati Wal-Ardhi Wa Mil'a Ma Baynahuma Wa Mil'a Ma Shi'ta Min Shay'in Ba'du» . Imam Darmi Rahmatullah Alaih se poocha gaya: Aap yahi kahte hain? Kaha: Nahin, poocha gaya kya aap farz namaz mein is tarah kahte hain? Kaha: Taqreeban aur bataya ke sab kuchh (jo mathur hai wo kahna) durust hai.

أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَمِّهْ الْمَاجِشُونَ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّكُوعِ، قَالَ: "سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ، وَمِلْءَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا، وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ". قِيلَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ: تَأْخُذُ بِهِ؟ قَالَ: لَا، وَقِيلَ لَهُ: تَقُولُ هَذَا فِي الْفَرِيضَةِ؟ قَالَ: عَسَى، وَقَالَ: كُلُّهُ طَيِّبٌ.
