Ammar, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, reported, I asked Ibn Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) how old was he when death overtook the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). He said, I did not know that such a thing is not known to a man like you who belong to his people. He said, I asked people about it but they differed with me, and I liked to know your opinion about it. He said, do you know counting? He said, yes. He then said, bear this in mind very well that he was commissioned (as a Prophet) at the age of forty, and he stayed in Makka for fifteen years; sometime in peace and sometime in dread, and (lived) for ten years after his migration to Medina.
بنوہاشم کے آزاد کردہ غلام عمار کہتے ہیں، میں نے حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما سے پوچھا، وفات کے وقت رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی عمر کتنی تھی تو انہوں نے کہا، میرا گمان نہیں تھا کہ تیرے جیسے آپ کی قوم کے فرد سے یہ بات محفی رہ سکتے ہے، میں نے کہا، میں نے لوگوں سے پوچھا، انہوں نے مجھے مختلف جوابات دیئے تو میں نے اس بارے میں آپ کا قول جاننا پسند کیا، انہوں نے کہا، حساب جانتے ہو؟ میں نے کہا، ہاں، انہوں نے کہا، حساب جانتے ہو؟ میں نے کہا، انہوں نے کہا، یاد رکھو، چالیس سال کی عمر میں آپ مبعوث ہوئے، پندرہ سال امن اور خوف کی حالت میں مکہ میں رہے اور دس سال ہجرت کے بعد مدینہ میں رہے۔
Banu Hashim ke azad kardah ghulam Ammar kehte hain, main ne Hazrat Ibn Abbas (Razi Allahu Anhuma) se poocha, wafat ke waqt Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki umar kitni thi to unhon ne kaha, mera guman nahi tha ke tere jaise Aap ki qaum ke fard se yeh baat mahfi reh sakti hai, main ne kaha, main ne logon se poocha, unhon ne mujhe mukhtalif jawabat diye to main ne is bare mein Aap ka qaul janna pasand kiya, unhon ne kaha, hisab jante ho? Main ne kaha, haan, unhon ne kaha, hisab jante ho? Main ne kaha, unhon ne kaha, yaad rakho, chalees saal ki umar mein Aap mab'oos hue, pandrah saal aman aur khauf ki halat mein Makkah mein rahe aur das saal hijrat ke baad Madina mein rahe.
