Samak bin Harb (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated about Zaid bin Sauhan (may Allah be pleased with him) that two Kufi men were friends of Zaid bin Sauhan (may Allah be pleased with him). These three decided that we should go to Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) and listen to the incident of his conversion to Islam from him. So, these three went to Salman (may Allah be pleased with him). Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) was the governor of Medina in those days. You were sitting on a chair, you had a goat, and you were feeding it fodder. The narrator says: We greeted him and sat down. Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "O Abu Abdullah! These two people are my friends, and they also have one brother. These people want to hear the incident of your conversion to Islam from your tongue." Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) started narrating the incident of his conversion to Islam. He said,
"I was an orphan child living in the city of Ram Hormuz. I lived in Ram Hormuz as the son of a farmer. He used to go to different teachers. I started living with him in his tent. I also had an elder brother. He was independent, but I was a young child. His habit was that when the gathering ended and his guards left, when they left, he would get up from there, change his clothes, and climb the mountain. He did this many times. I said to him, 'You take so much trouble to go alone, why don't you take me with you?' He said, 'You are still very young. I am afraid that you might reveal some of our secrets.' You say, "I said, 'Don't worry.' He said, 'Some people live on this mountain who have their own special worship. They are righteous people. They remember Allah Almighty and the Hereafter a lot. They consider us to be worshipers of fire and idols. I have accepted their religion.' You say, "I said, 'Take me with you too.' He said, 'I can't take you with me without asking them. I am afraid that if you show some action and my father finds out, he will not leave those people and all the blame for their murder will fall on my shoulders.' You say, "I said, 'Nothing like that will be revealed by me. You consult them.' He went to them and said, 'I have an orphan boy who wants to come to you and listen to your conversation.' They asked, 'Do you trust him?' He said, 'I am confident that he will do what we want.' Those people allowed me to go with him. He came and said to me, 'I have got permission to take you with me. When it's time for me to leave and you see that I have left, then you come with me, but no one should doubt that you are going with me because if my father finds out, he will kill them all." You say, "(The next day) When he left the house, I also went with him. We climbed the mountain and reached those people. These people were present in their cave. (The narrator says, "I think their number was 6 or 7.") They were in such a state after worshiping that it seemed as if their souls had left their bodies. These people would spend the whole day fasting and stand in prayer at night. At the time of Fajr, they would eat whatever was available to them. We would go and sit with these people. The farmer (son) praised his guide. Then those people started talking among themselves. They praised and glorified Allah Almighty. They praised the former prophets and messengers. As they were talking, they reached Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him. In this regard, their view was that Allah Almighty had sent Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him, as a messenger and gave him the power to heal the blind, the lepers, create birds, and raise the dead. Some people from his nation denied his teachings, and some followed him. He was the servant of Allah Almighty and His messenger. Allah Almighty had tested His creation through him." And those people had said this to me before, "O boy! Indeed, you have a Lord, and you have to go to the Hereafter too. There is both Paradise and Hell in front of you. You are moving towards them, and those who worship fire are disbelievers and misguided. Allah Almighty is not pleased with their actions. And they are not on the true religion." When it was time for that boy (the farmer's son) to leave, he got up and left. I also went with him. The next day, we went to those people again. That day too, they said very good and noble things. I made it a habit to attend their gathering. Those people said to me, "O Salman! You are still a young boy. You will not be able to worship (with hardship) like us. You should worship (for some part of the night) and sleep (for the rest of the time). (Similarly), eat and drink during the day (instead of fasting)." The narrator says, "(The boy's father) got to know about his son's actions. He rode on a horse and came to their place of worship. He came and said to them, 'O people! You came to my neighborhood, and I treated you like a good neighbor. You never saw any bad behavior from me, but despite this, you have spoiled my son. Now I am giving you three days. If I see you here after three days, I will burn down this place of worship. Please go back to your homeland. I don't want to harm you with my hands.'" Those people said, "Okay. Our purpose was not to bother you. Our intention was only good." His son stopped coming to those people. I said to him, "Fear Allah. You know that this religion is the religion of Allah Almighty. Your father and we are on the wrong religion. We are worshipers of fire. We do not worship Allah Almighty. Do not sell your Hereafter in exchange for the religion of others." He said, "O Salman! You are right. I have backed down from these people for their own good because if I go with them, my father will come to the mountain looking for me, then there will be a lot of damage. Once he has already seen their whereabouts in search of me."
"I knew that the truth was in the hands of these people. The day those people were supposed to leave, I went to them that day. Those people said, 'O Salman! You yourself have seen how careful we have been. You should continue to fear Allah Almighty and believe that the true religion is the one that we have advised you about, and these people are worshipers of fire. They do not know Allah Almighty, nor do they remember Allah Almighty. Never let anyone mislead you from your true religion." I said, "I will go with you." Those people said, "Then you can't stay with us. We fast all day and pray at night. We eat whatever is available at the time of Fajr. You will not be able to do all this." You say, "I said, 'I will not be separated from you people.'" Those people said, "You know your situation better. Anyway, we have informed you about our situation. But if you intend to come with us, then bring some food and drink that you can carry yourself because you will not be able to bear the hardship that we are able to endure in worship." You say, "I did the same. My brother met me. I told him the whole matter. After that, I came to those people. They were about to leave. I also went with them. By the grace and mercy of Allah Almighty, we reached Mosul safely. When we reached there, people surrounded us and asked, 'Where were you (for so many days)?' They said, 'We were in such an area where people do not remember Allah Almighty. The people there were worshipers of fire. We were worshiping Allah Almighty there. Those people expelled us from there.'" Those people asked, "Who is this child?" After praising me, those people said, "This child came with us from the same city. We have seen nothing but goodness in this child." Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) says, "By Allah! They were still in the same conversation when a man came to them from the side of the mountain. He came, greeted them, and sat down. These people sat around him. I have never seen anyone being respected as much as those people were respecting this man. They all surrounded this man. This man asked, 'Where were you?' They told the whole situation. He asked, 'Who is this child with you?' Those people again praised me a little and told the story of how I came with them. I had never seen anyone being respected as much as they were respecting this man. After that, this man praised and glorified Allah Almighty. After that, he mentioned the former prophets and messengers, their conditions, and the trials that befell them. Then, mentioning the birth of Isa (Jesus), peace be upon him, he said that he was born without a father. Allah Almighty made him a messenger. He raised the dead with his hands. He would make a statue of a bird from clay and breathe into it, and by the command of Allah, it would become a bird and fly away. Allah Almighty revealed the Gospel to him. He was given the knowledge of the Torah. He was sent as a messenger to the Children of Israel. Some people denied him, and some believed in him. And he also mentioned some of the trials of Jesus, peace be upon him, and also stated that he was the servant of Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty bestowed His favor upon him. He thanked Allah Almighty for this favor. Allah Almighty was pleased with him. When Allah Almighty raised him, even then, he was advising you people and saying, 'O people! Fear Allah and hold firmly to what Jesus, peace be upon him, has brought. Do not oppose him, or else Allah Almighty will give you the punishment for opposing him." Then this man said, "Whoever wants to take something from here can take it." People got up one by one and took a sip of water and a morsel of food. The people with whom I had gone also got up and showed great respect and reverence to this man and greeted him. He said to them, "Always remain steadfast on this religion. Avoid dividing into sects, and treat this child well." Then he said to me, "O child! The things you have heard from my tongue, this is the religion of Allah. And everything else besides this is disbelief." You say, "I said, 'I will never be separated from you.'" He said, "You cannot stay with me. I come out of this cave every Sunday (after a whole week). So, you cannot stay with me." ( Salman) says, "Then he turned to my companions (and said about me, 'Explain to this child.')" They said to me, "O child! You cannot stay with him." I said, "I cannot live without him." The companions of this man said, "O so-and-so! This is a child, and there is no guarantee of him." He said to me, "You know (yourself) better." I said, "I will stay with him only." Those companions of mine with whom I had come began to cry thinking that I would be separated from them. This man said, "O child! Take from this food as much as will be enough for you till next Sunday. Take that much water as well." I did the same. I did not see him eat or sleep until next Sunday. He spent the entire week in bowing and prostrating. When morning came, he said to me, "Take your food and water and let's go." I followed him. As we were walking, we reached a rock. When we reached there, many people also came out of the cave and climbed the mountain, waiting for him to come out. All those people sat down, and just as he had preached before, he preached again in the same way, saying, "Hold fast to this religion. Do not be divided. Remember Allah Almighty, and know that Jesus, son of Mary, peace be upon him, was the servant of Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty bestowed His favor upon him." After that, he mentioned me. People asked him, "O so-and-so! Where did you find this child?" He praised me and said very good words about me. Those people praised Allah Almighty. There were a lot of bread and water there. People took from it according to their needs. I did the same. After that, those people dispersed in those mountains and went back to their respective caves, and I came back with him. We spent a long time there. Every Sunday, he would come out, and people would also come. Everyone would gather around him and sit down. He would advise them as usual."
"Once, on a Sunday, he came out. When all the people gathered around him, after praising and glorifying Allah Almighty, he advised them and spoke in his usual manner. Then, at the end, he said, 'O people! I have become very old. My bones have become weak, and my time of death is near. And I have not yet entrusted the responsibility of this house to anyone for a long time, while it is very important to entrust this responsibility to someone. Cooperate with this child because I see him as harmless.' Hearing this, the people started crying. I had never seen such mourning before. The people (said about another man), 'O so-and-so! You are old, and you are alone too, and we do not think that you have ever been offered as much as you need today.' This man said, 'Do not stop me from my intention. It is necessary to follow this man, but you have to treat this child well. You have to do this yourself.'" I said, "I cannot live without you." He said, "O Salman! Have you not seen my condition? You have also seen all my dealings. I fast all day and pray at night. I cannot even carry provisions with me, and you do not have the strength for it." I said, "I cannot leave you." He said, "Okay, you know better." The narrator says, "People said, 'O so-and-so! We are worried about this child.'" He said, "He knows his situation better. I have informed him about the whole situation. This child has already seen my dealings before." I said, "I will not be separated from him." The narrator says, "The people bade him farewell with tears in their eyes, and he said to the people, 'O people! Fear Allah and act upon what I have advised you. If I remain alive, I will come again. And if I die, then surely Allah Almighty is Ever-Living, the One Who does not die." Saying this, he greeted everyone and left from there, and I also went with him."
"He said to me, 'Take some food and drink with you.' (I took some food and drink with me) and went with him. We continued walking (from one stage to another). I was following him. He was constantly remembering Allah Almighty. He neither paid attention to any side nor stopped anywhere. When evening came, he would say to me, 'O Salman! Pray, eat, drink, and sleep,' and he himself would spend the whole night in prayer. As we were walking, we reached Jerusalem. We lowered our gazes and reached the door of the mosque with respect and reverence. A lame man was sitting at the door. He said, 'O servant of Allah! You see my condition. Give me some charity.' But he entered the mosque without paying attention to this man. I also entered the mosque behind him. He started praying at different places in the mosque. Then he said, 'O Salman! I have not slept for a long time, nor have I tasted sleep. If you can wake me up when the shadow reaches that place, then I will sleep because I have a great desire to sleep in this mosque. And if you cannot wake me up, then I will not sleep.'" I said, "Okay, sir! I will wake you up." Saying this, he went to sleep with satisfaction. I thought that this man has not slept for a long time. I have also seen this with my own eyes in the few days that I have lived with him. I should not wake him up today so that he can complete his sleep. That man kept advising and preaching to me along the way and kept telling me that I have one Lord and there is Paradise and Hell in front of me, there is accountability. As he used to advise people on Sundays, in the same way, he kept advising me. He said to me, 'O Salman! Verily, Allah, the Most Blessed, the Most High, will soon send a messenger. His name will be "Ahmad." He will emerge from among you.' He was a non-Arab and could not speak Arabic properly (he was calling Tihamah "Tahmah"). He said that his sign will be that he will eat "gifts" but will not eat "charity." There will be the seal of Prophethood between his two shoulders. And the time for the appearance of this Prophet is very near. I have become very old. I don't know if I will be able to benefit from his company or not. If you find him, then confirm him and follow him.'" I said, "If he commands me to leave your religion and your teachings, (then should I still follow him?)" He said, "Leave everything on his saying because the truth is in what he commands, and the pleasure of Allah Almighty is in what he says." ( Salman) says, "(That man fell asleep after entrusting me with the responsibility of waking him up.) Not much time had passed when he suddenly woke up while remembering Allah Almighty. He said to me, 'O Salman! The shadow has passed that place, and why did you not wake me up?' I said, 'You told me that you had not slept for a long time, and I have seen this with my own eyes in the few days that I have lived with you. I thought that you should complete your sleep today.' He praised Allah Almighty, got up, and went out of the mosque. I also came out of the mosque behind him. That lame man was still sitting at the door. When this man passed by him, he said, 'O servant of Allah! When you went inside, I asked you then too, but you did not give me anything. Now you are coming out. Now I have asked again. You have not given me anything this time too.' He stopped there and looked around for a while to see if anyone was looking at him. (When he was sure that no one was looking) he went near the beggar and said, 'Extend your hand towards me.' He extended his hand. He said, 'Bismillah.' As soon as he heard these words, that man got up as if he had been tied with a rope and had just been untied, and there was no defect in him. Then this man went away. Now he was neither paying attention to anyone nor stopping near anyone. That lame man said to me, 'O child! Pick up my clothes and take me home.' (You say) I picked up his clothes and went with him. He did not pay any attention to me all the way (after leaving the lame man at his house). I went out in search of him. Whenever I asked anyone about him, people said that he had just gone ahead of me. As I was walking, I met a caravan of the Banu Kalb tribe. I asked them about this man. When they heard my words, one of them made his camel sit down for me and made me ride behind him. These people took me to their city and sold me there. An Ansari woman bought me. She put me to work in her garden. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived there. When I came to know about the arrival of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I plucked dates from my garden, put them in a tray, and brought them for the feast of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). In the meantime, some people gathered near the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Abu Bakr Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him) was closest to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I placed the tray of dates in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, 'What is this?' I said, 'Charity.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to the people, 'You people eat,' while he himself did not eat. After a few days, I again put some dates in a vessel and presented them to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). At that time too, some people were gathered near the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Abu Bakr Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him) was closest to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that day as well. I placed the dates in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked me, 'What is this?' I said, 'It is a gift.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited 'Bismillah' and ate, and the rest of the people also ate. I thought, 'The signs that my non-Arab companion told me, who could not speak Arabic properly because he was a non-Arab, he could not say "Tihamah," he used to say "Tahmah." He also told me that his name will be "Ahmad."' I turned towards the back of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) understood my purpose. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) moved his shawl aside. I saw that there was the seal of Prophethood on one side of his left shoulder. I looked at it carefully, then I turned around and came and sat in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and I said, 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and indeed, you are the Messenger of Allah.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked me, 'Who are you?' (You say) I said, 'O Messenger of Allah! I am a slave.' (You say) I narrated my whole story and told him everything about the man with whom I had stayed and the command he gave me. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, 'Whose slave are you?' I said, 'I am the slave of an Ansari woman. She has given me the responsibility of looking after her garden.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called Abu Bakr Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him), 'Abu Bakr!' Abu Bakr replied, 'I am present.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'Buy him.' So, Abu Bakr Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him) bought me and set me free. A few days later, I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I asked, 'O Messenger of Allah! What do you say about the religion of the Christians?' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'There is no good in them, nor is there any good in their religion.' A very big thing settled in my heart. I thought that this is the same person with whom I lived for many days, and whose worship I have witnessed. This is the same person who breathed 'Bismillah' on the lame man, and he got healed, and he says, 'There is no good in them, nor is there any good in their religion.' I returned from there, and a strange wave of happiness was running through my heart. On this occasion, Allah Almighty revealed this verse to His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):
"That is because there are priests and monks among them, and they are not arrogant." (Translation: Kanz-ul-Iman, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan, may Allah have mercy on him)
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Bring Salman to me." The messenger of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reached me. I was very scared in my heart. Anyway, I presented myself in his service and sat down in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), after reciting 'Bismillah,' recited this verse:
"That is because there are priests and monks among them, and they are not arrogant." (Translation: Kanz-ul-Iman, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan, may Allah have mercy on him)
Then he said, "O Salman! Those people with whom you stayed and your guide were not 'Christians,' they were Muslims." I said, "O Messenger of Allah! By the One who has sent you with the truth, the same person told me to follow you. I said to him, 'If he commands me to leave your religion and your views, should I still follow him?' Then he said, 'Leave everything, just don't leave his handhold because the truth and obligations are in what he commands you.'"
Imam Hakim says, "This hadith is authentic in connection with the incident of Salman Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) embracing Islam. Its chain of narrators is excellent. But Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) did not narrate it. There is also an authentic narration of Salman from Abu Tufail Amir bin Wathlah, which is slightly different from these chains of narrators. Due to the considerable difference in the text and chains of narrators of both, I considered it necessary to mention both hadiths. (Therefore, the second hadith is mentioned below)."
Hazrat Samak bin Harb (رضي الله تعالى عنه) , Hazrat Zaid bin Sauhan (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke baare mein batate hain ki do Kufi aadmi Hazrat Zaid bin Sauhan (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke dost the, in teeno ne tay kiya ki hum Hazrat Salman (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke paas ja kar in se inke kabool Islam ka waqia sun kar aate hain, chunancha yeh teeno Hazrat Salman (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke paas aa gaye, Hazrat Salman in dino Madinah ke Aamil (Governor) the, aap kursi par baithe hue the, inke paas ek bakri thi, aap isko chara khila rahe the, ravi kehte hain: Hum inko salam karke wahan baith gaye, Hazrat Zaid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne in se kaha: Aye Abu Abdullah! Yeh dono afrad mere dost hain, aur in dono ka ek bhai bhi hai, yeh log aap ki zubani aap ke Islam lane ka waqia sun na chahte hain. Hazrat Salman ne (apne Islam ka waqia sunana shuru kiya) kehne lage:
Main Ram Hormuz shahar ka rehne wala ek yatim bachcha tha, Ram Hormuz mein ek kisaan ka beta rehta tha wo mukhtalif mu'allimeen ke paas jaya karta tha, main iske sath iske khaime mein rehne lag gaya, mera ek bada bhai bhi tha, wo khud mukhtar tha lekin main chhota bachcha tha, iski aadat thi ki jab majlis khatam hoti, iske muhafizeen bhi chale jate, jab wo chale jate to wo wahan se uthta, kapde badalta aur pahari par chad jata, isne kai martaba isi tarah kiya, maine isko kaha ki tum akele itni mushqat uthate ho, tum mujhe apne sath kyun nahin le jate? Isne kaha: Tum abhi bahut chhote bachche ho, mujhe dar hai ki tum se hamara koi raaz faash na ho jaye. Aap farmate hain: Maine kaha: Tum ghabarao nahin. Isne kaha: Is pahari mein kuch aise log rehte hain jin ki apni ek khas ibadat hai, wo nek log hain, Allah Ta'ala ko aur aakhirat ko bahut yaad karte hain, wo hamein aag aur buton ke pujari samajhte hain, main inka deen kabool kar chuka hun. Aap farmate hain: Maine kaha: Tum mujhe bhi apne hamrah le kar jao. Isne kaha: Main in se puchhe baghair tumhein apne hamrah nahin le ja sakta. Mujhe dar hai ki tum se koi amal zahir ho gaya aur mere walid ko pata chal gaya to wo in logon ko nahin chhodenge aur inke qatl ka sara bojh mere kandhon par aa jayega. Aap farmate hain: Maine kaha: Meri zaat se aisi koi baat zahir nahin hogi, aap in se mashwara kar lijiye. Wo inke paas gaye, aur in se kaha: Mere paas ek yatim ladka hai, wo aap ke paas aana chahta hai, aap logon ki guftgu sun na chahta hai. Inhone puchha: Kya tumhen is par aitmaad hai? Isne kaha: Mujhe umeed waasik hai ki wo wohi karega jo hum chahte hain. In logon ne mujhe sath le jane ki ijazat de di, isne aa kar mujhe kaha: Main tumhen apne hamrah le jane ki ijazat le aaya hun. Jab mere jane ka waqt aaye aur tum mujhe dekho ki main nikal gaya hun, to tum mere sath chale aana, lekin kisi shaqs ko yeh shaq na ho ki tum mere sath ja rahe ho, kyunki agar mere baap ko pata chal gaya to wo in sab ko qatl kar dalega. Aap farmate hain: (Agle din) Jab wo ghar se nikla to main bhi iske sath ho liya, hum pahari par chadh gaye aur in logon tak ja pahunche, yeh log apne ghaar mein maujood the, (ravi kehte hain: Mera khayaal hai ki in logon ki tadad 6 ya 7 thi) ibadat kar kar ke inki haalat yeh ho gayi thi (lagta tha ki) inke badan se rooh nikal chuki hai. Yeh log sara din roza se guzarte aur raat ko qayam karte, sehri ke waqt inko jo misar aata wohi kha lete hain. Wo to Allah Ta'ala ke bande aur iske rasool the. Allah Ta'ala ne inke zariye apni makhlooq ko aazmaya tha, aur in logon ne is se pehle mujhe yeh kaha tha ki aye ladke! Be shaq tumhara ek Rabb hai, aur tujhe aakhirat mein bhi jana hai, tere samne jannat aur dozakh dono hain, tum inki taraf badh rahe ho, aur yeh jo log aag ki puja karte hain, yeh kaafir aur gumrah hain. Allah Ta'ala inke amal se raazi nahin hai. Aur na yeh sachche deen par hain. Jab is ladke (kisaan ke bete) ke jane ka waqt hua to wo uth kar chal diya, main bhi iske hamrah chala gaya, agle din dobara hum in logon ke paas gaye, is din bhi inhone bahut achhi aur nek baaten kin. Maine inki majlis ko ikhtiyar kar liya, in logon ne mujhe kaha: Aye Salman! Tum abhi chhote bachche ho, tum hamari tarah (mushqat wali) ibadat nahin kar paoge, tum (raat ka kuch hissa) ibadat kar liya karo aur (baqi waqt) so jaya karo, (yunhi) din mein (roza nahin rakha karo balki) khate pite reha karo. Ravi kehte hain: (Is ladke ke baap ko) apne bete ke amal ki ittilaa mil gayi, wo ghode par sawar ho kar inki ibadat gah mein aa gaya, aa kar in se kehne laga: Aye logo! Tum mere pados mein aaye aur maine tumhare sath achhe padosi ka bartao kiya, tumne kabhi bhi mujh se koi bura suluk nahin dekha, lekin iske bawajood tumne mere bete ko bigad diya hai. Ab main tumhen teen din ki mohlat deta hun, agar maine tumhen teen din ke baad yahan par dekh liya to tumhara yeh ibadat khana jala dalunga. Meherbani kar ke tum apne watan wapas chale jao, main nahin chahta ki mere hath se tumhara koi nuksaan ho. In logon ne kaha: Theek hai. Hamara maqsad tumhen takleef dena na tha, hamara irada to faqat bhalai hi tha. Iska beta in logon ke paas aane se ruk gaya, maine is se kaha: Allah Ta'ala se dar, tum jo jante ho ki yeh deen, Allah Ta'ala ka deen hai, tera baap aur hum log galat deen par hain. Hum log aag ke pujari hain, Allah Ta'ala ki ibadat nahin karte, tum ghair ke deen ke badle apni aakhirat mat becho, isne kaha: Aye Salman!, Tum sahi keh rahe ho, main in logon ki behtari ke liye in se piche hata hun, kyunki agar main inke sath jaun, mera baap mujhe dhundta hua pahari mein ja pahunchega, tab bahut nuksaan hoga. Ek martaba wo meri talaash mein inka thikana dekh aaya hai.
Main yeh jaan chuka tha ki haq inhi logon ke hath mein hai. Jis din in logon ne rawana hona tha, is din main inke paas aaya. In logon ne kaha: Aye Salman! Tumne khud dekha hai ki humne kis kadar ehtiyat ki. Tum Allah Ta'ala se darte rehna aur yeh yaqeen rakhna ki deen haq wohi hai jiski humne tumhen wasiyat ki hai, aur yeh log aag ke pujari hain, yeh Allah Ta'ala ko nahin pehchante aur na hi yeh log Allah Ta'ala ka zikr karte hain, kabhi koi shaqs tumhen tumhare sachche deen se dhokhe mein na dale. Maine kaha: Main tumhare sath hi jaun ga. In logon ne kaha: To hamare sath nahin reh sakta, hum sara din roza rakhte hain aur raat ko qayam karte hain, hamein sehri ke waqt jo misar ho kha lete hain. Tum yeh sab nahin kar paoge. Aap farmate hain: Maine kaha: Main tum logon se alag nahin hun ga. In logon ne kaha: Tum apna haal behtar jante ho, baharhaal humne apni surat e haal se tumhen aagah kar diya hai. Lekin agar hamare sath chalne ka irada le kar aao to apne khane pine ki kuch ashiya jo tum khud utha sako, apne hamrah le kar aana, kyunki hum jis kadar ba mushqat ibadat kar sakte hain, tum wo mushqat bardasht nahin kar paoge. Aap farmate hain: Maine aise hi kiya, mera bhai mujh se mila, maine sara mamla isko bata diya, iske baad main in logon ke paas aa gaya, yeh rawana ho rahe the, main bhi inke hamrah chal diya, Allah Ta'ala ke fazl o karam se hum bakhair o aafiyat maqam Mosul mein pahunche, jab hum wahan pahunche to logon ne hamein gher liya aur puchhne lage: Tum log (itne dino se) kahan the? Inhone kaha: Hum aise ilaqe mein the wahan ke log Allah Ta'ala ko yaad nahin karte, wahan ke log aag ke pujari the, hum wahan par Allah Ta'ala ki ibadat karte the, in logon ne hamein wahan se nikal diya. Isne aa kar inko salam kiya aur baith gaya, yeh log iske ird gird baith gaye, main jin logon ke hamrah tha inhone (bhi) is aadmi ka bahut ehteraam kiya aur in sab logon ne is aadmi ko charon taraf se gher liya. Is aadmi ne puchha: Tum log kahan the? Inhone tamam surat e haal keh sunai. Isne puchha: Tumhare sath yeh bachcha kaun hai? In logon ne phir meri kuchh tareef ki aur mere inke hamrah aane ka majra sunaya. Jis kadar wo log is aadmi ki izzat kar rahe the, maine is tarah kabhi kisi ki izzat hote nahin dekhi thi. Iske baad is aadmi ne Allah Ta'ala ki hamd o sanaa ki, iske baad saabika anbiya karam aur rusul izaam, inke ahwal aur in par aane wali aazmaishon ka zikr kiya. Phir Hazrat Isa Alaihissalam ki paidaish ka zikr karte hue inke bare mein bataya ki wo baghair baap ke paida hue the, Allah Ta'ala ne inko rasool banaya, inke hath par murdon ko zinda kiya. Wo mitti se parinda ki ek murat bana kar is par dum karte to wo Allah ke hukm se parinda ban kar ud jata, Allah Ta'ala ne in par Injeel nazil farmai, inko Taurat ka ilm diya, inko Bani Israeel ki taraf rasool bana kar bheja, kuch logon ne inka inkar kiya aur kuch in par emaan laaye, aur Isa Alaihissalam ki baaz aazmaishon ka bhi zikr kiya, aur yeh bhi bayan kiya ki wo Allah Ta'ala ke bande the, Allah Ta'ala ne in par inaam farmaya, inhone is inaam par Allah Ta'ala ka shukar ada kiya. Allah Ta'ala in se raazi hua, Allah Ta'ala ne inko jab uthaya to us waqt bhi aap logon ko nasihat hi kar rahe the, aur farma rahe the: Logo! Log ek ek kar ke uthte aur paani ka ek ghunt aur khane ka ek ek lukma lete. Main jin logon ke hamrah gaya tha wo bhi uthe aur is aadmi ki bahut izzat o taqreer ki, isko salam kiya. Isne in se kaha: Is deen par hamesha qayam rehna, firqon mein batne se bachna aur is bachche ke sath achha bartao karna. Phir isne mujhe kaha: Aye bachche! Tumne meri zaban se jo baaten suni hain, yeh Allah Ta'ala ka deen hai. Aur iske siwa sab kufr hai. Aap farmate hain: Maine kaha: Main aap se kabhi bhi alag nahin hun ga. Isne kaha: Tum mere sath nahin reh sakte, main is ghaar se (pure hafte ke baad) har itwar ko nikalta hun, to mere sath nahin reh sakta, (Hazrat Salman) farmate hain: Phir wo mere sathiyon ki taraf mutawajjah hue (aur mere bare mein in se kaha ki is bachche ko tum samjhao) inhone mujhe kaha: Aye bachche! To inke hamrah nahin reh sakta. Maine kaha: Main inke baghair nahin reh sakta. Is aadmi ke sathiyon ne kaha: Aye falan! Yeh bachcha hai aur iska koi bharosa nahin hai. Isne mujhe kaha: Tum (apne bare mein) zyada jante ho. Maine kaha: Main to inke sath hi rahun ga. Mere wo sathi jin ke hamrah main aaya tha wo yeh soch kar rone lage ki main in se juda ho jaun ga. Is aadmi ne kaha: Aye bachche! Jab subah hui to isne mujhe kaha: Apna khana paani lo aur chalo, main iske piche piche chal nikla, chalte chalte hum ek chataan tak pahunche, jab wahan pahunche to kaafi sare log bhi ghaar se nikal kar pahari par aa kar iske nikalne ka intezar kar rahe the. Wo tamam log baith gaye aur jaise pehle isne waz kiya tha usi tarah dobara waz karte hue farmaya: Is deen ko mazbooti se thaam lo, juda juda mat ho, Allah Ta'ala ko yaad karo aur jaan lo ki Hazrat Isa bin Maryam Alaihissalam Allah Ta'ala ke bande the, Allah Ta'ala ne in par inaam farmaya, iske baad isne mera zikr kiya. Logon ne in se puchha: Aye falan! Tujh ko yeh bachcha kahan se mila? Isne meri tareef ki aur mere bare mein bahut achhe alfaaz irshad farmaye. In logon ne Allah Ta'ala ki hamd ki, wahan kaafi sari rotiyan aur paani maujood tha, logon ne apni apni zaroorat ke mutabiq is mein se le liya, maine bhi aise hi kiya. Iske baad wo log in paharon mein bikhar gaye aur apni apni ghaaron mein wapas chale gaye, main iske hamrah wapas aa gaya. Kaafi arsa humne wahan guzara, har itwar ko wo bahar nikalta aur log bhi aa jate, sab iske ird gird jama ho kar baith jate, wo inko hasb e ma'mul inko nasihaten karta.
Ek dafa ka zikr hai ki itwar ke din wo nikla, jab tamam log iske paas jama ho gaye to Allah Ta'ala ki hamd o sanaa ke baad inko nasihat karte hue apne tariqe ke mutabiq guftgu farmai. Phir sab se akhir mein kaha: Aye logo! Main bahut budha ho chuka hun, meri haddiyan kamzor ho chuki hain, aur meri maut ka waqt qareeb hai, aur arsa daraz se is ghar ki zimmedari mein ne abhi tak kisi ko nahin di jabki yeh zimmedari kisi ko dena bahut zaroori hai. Tum is bachche ke sath taawun karna kyunki main isko be zarar dekh raha hun. Yeh sun kar log rone lag gaye, maine aaj tak aisa rona dhona kabhi nahin dekha tha. Logon ne (ek dusre aadmi ke bare mein kaha) aye falan! Tum budhe ho aur tum akele bhi ho aur hum nahin samajhte ki aaj hamein jitni teri zaroorat hai tumhen is se zyada kabhi koi peshkash ki gayi ho, is aadmi ne kaha: Tum mujhe mere irade se mat hatao, is aadmi ki ittiba zaroori hai lekin tum is bachche ke sath bhalai ka mamla karna tum yahi karna, tum yahi karna. Maine kaha: Main tumhare baghair nahin reh sakta. Isne kaha: Aye Salman! To ne meri haalat dekh li hai na? Mere tamam mamlaat bhi dekh liye hain. Main sara din roza rakhta hun aur raat mein qayam karta hun. Main apne hamrah zad e rah bhi nahin utha sakta aur tum iski taaqat nahin rakhte ho. Maine kaha: Main tumhen nahin chhod sakta. Isne kaha theek hai tum behtar jante ho. Ravi kehte hain: Logon ne kaha: Aye falan! Hum is bachche ke bare mein pareshan hain. Isne kaha: Yeh apna haal behtar janta hai, maine isko tamam surat e haal se aagah kar diya hai, yeh bachcha is se pehle mere mamlaat dekh bhi chuka hai. Maine kaha: Main is se alag nahin rahun ga. Ravi kehte hain: Logon ne ba didah e nam isko alwida kiya aur isne logon se kaha: Logo! Allah Ta'ala se daro aur maine tumhen jo wasiyat ki hai is par amal peira raho, agar main zinda raha to dobara aaunga aur agar mar gaya to be shaq Allah Ta'ala hayyul la yamut hai, yeh keh kar isne sab ko salam kiya aur wahan se nikal pada aur main bhi iske hamrah chal diya.
Isne mujhe kaha: Tum apne khane pine ke liye kuch ashiya apne sath le lo, (mainne khane pine ki thodi si cheezen apne sath rakhin) aur iske hamrah chal pada. Hum (manzil ba manzil) chalte rahe, main iske piche piche tha, wo muttasil Allah Ta'ala ka zikr kar raha tha, wo na to kisi taraf tawajjuh karta tha aur na kahin theherta tha, jab sham hoti to wo mujhe kehta: Aye Salman! Tum namaz padh kar khana waghaira kha pi kar so jao, aur wo khud sari raat namaz mein mashgool rehta, chalte chalte hum Baitul Muqaddas pahunche. Nigahein jhukae, adab o ehteraam ke sath hum masjid ke darwaze tak pahunche, darwaze par ek apahij aadmi baitha hua tha, isne kaha: Aye Allah ke bande! Tum mere haal ko dekh rahe ho, tum mujh par kuch sadqa karo, lekin wo is aadmi ki taraf tawajjuh kiye baghair masjid mein dakhil ho gaya, iske piche piche main bhi masjid mein dakhil ho gaya, wo masjid mein mukhtalif maqamat par namaz padhne lag gaya, phir isne kaha: Aye Salman! Main bahut arse se soya nahin hun aur na maine neend ka zaika chakha hai agar tum yeh kar sako ki jab saya falan maqam tak pahunch jaye to tum mujhe jaga doge to main so jata hun, kyunki mujhe is masjid mein sone ka bahut shauq hai aur agar tum mujhe nahin utha sakte to main nahin sota. Maine kaha: Theek hai ji! Main aap ko jaga dunga. Yeh keh kar wo apne taur par mutmain ho kar so gaya, maine socha ki yeh aadmi bahut arse se soya nahin hai, chand din maine bhi iske sath reh kar isko dekha hai, mujhe aaj isko nahin uthana chahiye taki yeh apni neend poori kar le. Wo shaqs pure raste mein mujhe waz o nasihat karta raha aur mujhe batata raha ki mera ek Rabb hai, aur mere samne jannat aur dozakh hai, hisab kitab hai, wo aadmi jaise itwar ke din logon ko nasihaten kiya karta tha usi tarah mujhe bhi nasihaten karta raha, isne mujhe kaha: Aye Salman! Be shaq Allah tabarak wa ta'ala an qareeb ek rasool maboos farmayega, iska naam ''Ahmad'' hoga, wo ''Tahama'' se niklega. Wo ajmi shaqs tha, arabi sahih taur par nahin bol pa raha tha (Tahama ko ''Tahma'' keh raha tha), isne bataya ki iski nishani yeh hogi ki wo ''hadiya'' (ki cheez) kha lega magar ''sadqa'' (ki cheez) nahin khayega, iske dono kandhon ke darmiyan mohr e nabuwat hogi, aur is nabi ke zahir hone ka zamana bilkul qareeb hai. Main bahut budha ho chuka hun, pata nahin main iski sohbat se faiziyab ho pata hun ya nahin. Agar tu isko paye to iski tasdeeq karna aur iski ittiba karna. Maine kaha: Agar wo mujhe tumhara deen aur tumhari taleemat chhodne ka hukm de, (to kya tab bhi main iski ittiba karun?) isne kaha: Tum iske kehne par sab kuchh chhod dena kyunki haq isi mein hai jo wo hukm de aur Allah Ta'ala ki raza isi mein hai jo wo kahe. (Hazrat Salman) farmate hain: (Wo aadmi jagane ki zimmedari mujhe sonp kar so gaya) abhi zyada waqt nahin guzara tha ki wo Allah Ta'ala ka zikr karte hue hadbada kar uth baitha, isne mujhe kaha: Aye Salman! Saya to is jagah se aage guzar gaya hai aur tumne mujhe jagaya kyun nahin? Maine kaha: To ne mujhe bataya tha ki tum itne arse se soye nahin ho aur chand roz tere hamrah reh kar iska nazara maine khud apni aankhon se bhi kar liya hai, maine socha ki aaj aap ki neend poori ho jaye, isne Allah Ta'ala ki hamd bayan ki, uth kar khada hua aur masjid se bahar nikla, iske piche main bhi masjid se bahar aa gaya, darwaze par wo apahij aadmi abhi tak baitha hua tha, jab yeh aadmi iske qareeb se guzara to isne kaha: Aye Allah ke bande! Tum jab andar gaye, maine us waqt bhi sawal kiya tha lekin to ne mujhe kuchh nahin diya ab tum bahar aa rahe ho, ab phir maine sawal kiya, ab bhi tumne mujhe kuchh nahin diya. Wo wahin ruk gaya aur kuch der dekhta raha ki koi shaqs ise dekh to nahin raha (jab isko yaqeen ho gaya ki koi nahin dekh raha to) wo is mangne wale ke qareeb hua aur ise kaha: Apna hath meri taraf badhaiye, isne apna hath badhaya, isne kaha ''Bismillah''. Yeh lafz sunte hi wo aadmi yun uth kar khada hua jaise wo rassi se bandha hua, abhi khula ho, aur is mein koi aib nahin tha. Phir yeh shaqs chal diya, ab bhi yeh na kisi ki taraf tawajjuh karta aur na kisi ke paas khada hota, is apahij aadmi ne mujhe kaha: Aye bachche! Mere kapde utha lo aur mujhe ghar tak chhod aao (aap farmate hain) maine iske kapde utha liye aur iske sath chal diya, isne pure raste mein meri taraf koi dhyaan na diya (apahij ko iske ghar tak chhodne ke baad), main iski talaash mein nikla, maine jab bhi kisi se iske bare mein puchha, logon ne bataya ki wo tere aage aage abhi gaya hai, chalte chalte qabeela ''Kalb'' ke ek qafle se meri mulaqat hui, maine in se is aadmi ke bare mein puchha, jab inhone meri baat suni to in mein se ek aadmi ne apna unt mere liye bitha diya aur mujhe apne piche sawar kar liya, yeh log mujhe apne shahar le gaye aur wahan le ja kar mujhe bech diya, ek ansari khatoon ne mujhe khareeda, isne mujhe apne bagh mein kaam par laga diya, wahan par rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) tashreef le aaye, mujhe Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke aane ka pata chala to main apne bagh ki khajuren tod kar ek thaal mein rakh kar aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki ziyafat ke liye le aaya, isi asna mein aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke qareeb kuch log jama ho gaye, Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (رضي الله تعالى عنه) sab se zyada Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke qareeb the, maine khajuron ka thaal Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne rakh diya, aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne puchha: Yeh kya hai? Maine kaha: Sadqa. Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne logon se kaha: Tum log kha lo, jabki aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne khud na khaya. Kuch dino baad maine phir kuch khajuren ek bartan mein rakh kar Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki khidmat mein pesh kin. Is waqt bhi Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke paas kuch log jama the, Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (رضي الله تعالى عنه) is din bhi rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sab se zyada qareeb the. Maine khajuren Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne rakh din, aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne mujh se puchha: Yeh kya hai? Maine kaha ''hadiya'' hai. Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ''Bismillah'' sharif padh kar khaya aur baqi logon ne bhi khaya. Maine socha: Mere is ajmi sathi ne jo nishaniyan batai thin, jo ajmi hone ki wajah se sahih taur par arabi nahin bol pa raha tha wo ''Tahama'' nahin keh pa raha tha, ''Tahma'' keh raha tha, isne yeh bhi bataya tha ki iska naam ''Ahmad'' hoga. Main Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke piche ki taraf ghuma, aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne mera maqsad samajh liya, is liye Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne apna kapda dhalka diya, maine dekha ki aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke bayen kandhe ke ek taraf mohr e nabuwat thi, maine isko achhi tarah ghaur se dekh liya phir main ghoom kar aaya aur Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne aa kar baith gaya aur maine kaha: Main gawahi deta hun ki Allah ke siwa koi ibadat ke layak nahin hai aur beshaq aap Allah Ta'ala ke rasool hain. Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne mujh se puchha: Tum kaun ho? (Aap farmate hain) maine kaha: Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) main ghulam hun. (Aap farmate hain) maine apni poori kahani sunai aur is aadmi ki tamam baaten batain jis ke hamrah main raha aur isne mujhe jo hukm diya tha, sab bataya. Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne puchha: Tum kis ke ghulam ho? Maine kaha: Ek ansari khatoon ka ghulam hun, isne mujhe apne bagh ki dekh bhaal ki zimmedari de rakhi hai. Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ko aawaz di, Abu Bakar! Hazrat Abu Bakar ne jawab diya: Main hazir hun, Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Isko khareed lo. Chunancha Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne mujhe khareed kar aazaad kar diya, kuch dino baad main rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke paas baitha hua tha, maine puchha: Ya rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) aap nasara ke deen ke bare mein kya farmate hain? Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: In mein koi bhalai hai na inke deen mein koi bhalai hai. Mere dil mein ek bahut badi baat baith gayi, maine socha ki yeh to wohi shaqs hai main jis ke hamrah kai din raha hun, aur jiski ibadat ke jalwe maine dekhe hain yeh to wohi shaqs hai, jisne ''Bismillah'' padh kar apahij ko dam kiya tha aur wo theek ho gaya tha, aur farmaya: In mein koi bhalai nahin hai na inke deen mein koi bhalai hai. Main wahan se wapas gaya to mere dil mein khushi ki ek ajeeb lehar si daud rahi thi. Isi mauqe par Allah Ta'ala ne apne nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) par yeh aayat nazil farmai.
''Zalika bi anna minhum qissisin wa ruhbana wa annahum la yastakbirun''
''Yeh is liye ki in mein aalim aur darvesh hain aur yeh gharoor nahin karte'' (tarjuma kanzul emaan, Imam Ahmad Raza Rahmatullah Alaih)
Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Salman ko mere paas lao, Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ka qaasid mere paas pahuncha, main dil hi dil mein bahut dar raha tha. Baharhaal main hazir khidmat ho kar aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne baith gaya, Huzoor (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ''Bismillah hir Rahman nir Raheem'' padhne ke baad yeh aayat tilawat farmai.
''Zalika bi anna minhum qissisin wa ruhbana wa annahum la yastakbirun''
''Yeh is liye ki in mein aalim aur darvesh hain aur yeh gharoor nahin karte'' (tarjuma kanzul emaan, Imam Ahmad Raza Rahmatullah Alaih)
Phir farmaya: Aye Salman! Wo log jin ke sath tum rahe ho aur tera wo rahnuma ''nasrani'' nahin the wo to musalman the. Maine kaha: Ya rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is zaat ki qasam! Jisne aap ko haq ke sath bheja hai, isi shaqs ne mujhe aap ki ittiba karne ka kaha tha. Maine is se kaha ki agar wo mujhe tere deen aur tere nazariyaat chhodne ka hukm de to kya main tab bhi iski ittiba karun? To isne kaha tha sab kuch chhod dena, bas iska daman na chhodna, kyunki haq aur wajibat isi mein hai jo wo tujhe hukm de.
Imam Hakim kehte hain: Hazrat Salman Farsi (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke emaan lane ke waqia ke silsile mein yeh hadees sahih hai, iski sanad aali hai. Lekin Imam Bukhari Rahmatullah Alaih aur Imam Muslim Rahmatullah Alaih ne isko naql nahin kiya. Abu Tufail Aamir bin Wasilah ke hawale se bhi Hazrat Salman ki ek sahih riwayat maujood hai jo is asnaad se zara mukhtalif hai, dono ke matan aur asnaad mein kami zyadti ke hawale se kyunki kaafi ikhtilaf hai is liye maine laazmi samjha ki dono hadeeson ko zikr kar dun. (Is liye dusri hadees darj zel hai).
