Chapter: How Should One Who Has Missed A Prayer Make It Up?

باب كَيْفَ يُقْضَى الْفَائِتُ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ

Sunan an-Nasa'i 621

It was narrated from Buraid bin Abi Mariam that his father said : "We were with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) on a journey, and we kept going one night, then when it was nearly morning the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) dismounted and slept, and the people slept too. We did not wake up until the sun had risen. The Apostle of Allah(صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) asked the Mu'adhdhin to call the Adhan, then he prayed the two Rak'a before Fajr, then he asked him to say the Iqamah, then he led the people in prayer. Then he told us about everything that will happen until the Hour begins."

ابومریم (مالک بن ربیعہ) رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم لوگ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے ساتھ ایک سفر میں تھے، تو ہم رات بھر چلتے رہے جب صبح ہونے لگی تو آپ ﷺ اترے اور سو رہے، لوگ بھی سو گئے، تو سورج کی دھوپ پڑنے ہی پر آپ جاگے، تو آپ نے مؤذن کو حکم دیا تو اس نے اذان دی، پھر آپ نے فجر سے پہلے کی دونوں رکعتیں پڑھیں، پھر آپ نے اسے حکم دیا تو اس نے اقامت کہی، اور آپ نے لوگوں کو نماز پڑھائی، پھر آپ نے قیامت قائم ہونے تک جو اہم چیزیں ہونے والی ہیں انہیں ہم سے بیان کیں۔

Abu Mariyam (Malik bin Rabi'ah) (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke hum log Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath ek safar mein the, to hum raat bhar chalte rahe jab subh hone lagi to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) utre aur so rahe, log bhi so gaye, to suraj ki dhoop padne hi par aap jaage, to aap ne mu'azzin ko hukm diya to us ne azan di, phir aap ne fajr se pehle ki dono rak'atein parhi, phir aap ne use hukm diya to us ne iqamat kahi, aur aap ne logoon ko namaz padhai, phir aap ne qiyamat qaim hone tak jo ahem cheezein hone wali hain unhen hum se bayan ki.

أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَسْرَيْنَا لَيْلَةً فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي وَجْهِ الصُّبْحِ نَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَنَامَ وَنَامَ النَّاسُ فَلَمْ نَسْتَيْقِظْ إِلاَّ بِالشَّمْسِ قَدْ طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْنَا فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْمُؤَذِّنَ فَأَذَّنَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ فَأَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ حَدَّثَنَا بِمَا هُوَ كَائِنٌ حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 622

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said : "We were with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and we were prevented from praying Zuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib and 'Isha'. I felt very upset about that and I said to myself : 'We are with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and (fighting) for the sake of Allah.' Then the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) commanded Bilal (رضي الله تعالى عنه) to say the Iqamah and he led us in praying Zuhr. Then he said the Iqamah and he led us in praying 'Asr. Then he said the Iqamah and he led us in praying Maghrib. Then he said the Iqamah and he led us in praying 'Isha'. Then he went around among us and told us : 'There is no group on Earth who is remembering Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, except you.'"

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم رسول اللہ ﷺ کے ساتھ تھے تو ہمیں  ( کافروں کی طرف سے )  ظہر، عصر، مغرب اور عشاء سے روک لیا گیا، تو یہ میرے اوپر بہت گراں گزرا، پھر میں نے اپنے جی میں کہا: ہم لوگ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے ساتھ ہیں، اور اللہ کے راستے میں ہیں، اس کے بعد رسول اللہ ﷺ نے بلال رضی اللہ عنہ کو حکم دیا، تو انہوں نے اقامت کہی، تو آپ نے ہمیں ظہر پڑھائی، پھر انہوں نے اقامت کہی، تو آپ نے ہمیں عصر پڑھائی، پھر انہوں نے اقامت کہی، تو آپ نے ہمیں مغرب پڑھائی، پھر انہوں نے اقامت کہی، تو آپ نے ہمیں عشاء پڑھائی، پھر آپ ﷺ ہم پر گھومے اور فرمایا: روئے زمین پر تمہارے علاوہ کوئی جماعت نہیں ہے، جو اللہ کو یاد کر رہی ہو ۔

Abdul'llah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke hum Rasool'llah sal'llahu alaihi wa sallam ke sath the to hamen (kafiron ki taraf se) zuhr, asr, maghrib aur isha se rok liya gaya, to yeh mere oopar bahut gran guzra, phir maine apne jee mein kaha: hum log Rasool'llah sal'llahu alaihi wa sallam ke sath hain, aur Allah ke raste mein hain, is ke baad Rasool'llah sal'llahu alaihi wa sallam ne Bilal (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ko hukm diya, to unhon ne iqamat kahi, to aap ne hamen zuhr padhai, phir unhon ne iqamat kahi, to aap ne hamen asr padhai, phir unhon ne iqamat kahi, to aap ne hamen maghrib padhai, phir unhon ne iqamat kahi, to aap ne hamen isha padhai, phir aap sal'llahu alaihi wa sallam hum per ghoome aur farmaaya: roye zaman par tumhare alawa koi jamat nahi hai, jo Allah ko yaad kar rahi ho.

أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتَوَائِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَحُبِسْنَا عَنْ صَلاَةِ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ فَاشْتَدَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَىَّ فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي نَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِلاَلاً فَأَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا الْعِشَاءَ ثُمَّ طَافَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ ‏"‏ مَا عَلَى الأَرْضِ عِصَابَةٌ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ غَيْرُكُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 623

It was narrated that Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said : "We stopped to camp at the end of the night with the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), and we did not wake up until the sun had risen. The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: 'Let each man take hold of his camel's head (and leave), for the Satan was here in this place with us.' We did that, then he called for water and performed Wudu', then he prayed two Rak'a, then the Iqamah was said and he prayed Al-Ghadah (Fajr)."

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کے ساتھ رات کے آخری حصہ میں سونے کے لیے پڑاؤ ڈالا، تو ہم  ( سوتے رہے )  جاگ نہیں سکے یہاں تک کہ سورج نکل آیا، تو رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا:  تم میں سے ہر شخص کو چاہیئے کہ اپنی سواری کا سر تھام لے  ( یعنی سوار ہو کر یہاں سے نکل جائے )  کیونکہ یہ ایسی جگہ ہے جس میں شیطان ہمارے ساتھ رہا ، ہم نے ایسا ہی کیا، پھر آپ ﷺ نے پانی مانگا اور وضو کیا، پھر دو رکعت نماز پڑھی، پھر اقامت کہی گئی تو آپ نے فجر پڑھائی۔

Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke hum ne rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath raat ke aakhiri hisse mein sone ke liye padau dala, to hum ( sote rahe ) jaag nahin sake yeh tak ke sooraj nikal aya, to rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum mein se har shakhs ko chahiye ke apni sawari ka sar thaam le ( yani sawar ho kar yehan se nikal jaaye ) kyunke yeh aisi jagah hai jis mein shaitan hamare sath raha, hum ne aisa hi kiya, phir aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne pani manga aur wudu kiya, phir do rakat namaz padhi, phir iqamat kahi gayi to aap ne fajr padhai.

أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حَازِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ عَرَّسْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَمْ نَسْتَيْقِظْ حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ لِيَأْخُذْ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ بِرَأْسِ رَاحِلَتِهِ فَإِنَّ هَذَا مَنْزِلٌ حَضَرَنَا فِيهِ الشَّيْطَانُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَفَعَلْنَا فَدَعَا بِالْمَاءِ فَتَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَصَلَّى الْغَدَاةَ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 624

It was narrated from Nafi' bin Jubair, from his father, that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said during a journey: "Who will watch out for dawn for us, so that we do not sleep and miss the dawn prayer?" Bilal (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said: 'I will.' He turned to face the direction where the sun woke them up, then they got up. He said : 'Perform Wudu'.' Then Bilal (رضي الله تعالى عنه) called the Adhan and he prayed two Rak'a, and they prayed the two (Sunnah) Rak'a of Fajr, then they prayed Fajr."

جبیر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے اپنے ایک سفر میں فرمایا:  آج رات کون ہماری نگرانی کرے گا تاکہ ہم فجر میں سوئے نہ رہ جائیں؟ بلال رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: میں، پھر انہوں نے سورج نکلنے کی جانب رخ کیا، تو ان پر ایسی نیند طاری کر دی گئی کہ کوئی آواز ان کے کان تک پہنچ ہی نہیں سکی یہاں تک کہ سورج کی گرمی نے انہیں بیدار کیا، تو وہ اٹھے تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا:  تم لوگ وضو کرو ، پھر بلال رضی اللہ عنہ نے اذان دی، تو آپ ﷺ نے دو رکعت فجر کی سنت پڑھی، اور لوگوں نے بھی فجر کی دو رکعت سنت پڑھی، پھر لوگوں نے فجر پڑھی۔

Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne apne ek safar mein farmaya: Aaj raat kon hamari nigrani karega taka hum fajr mein sooye na rahe jaein? Bilal (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne kaha: Main, phir unhon ne sooraj nikalne ki janib rukh kiya, to un par aisi neend tari kar di gayi ke koi awaz un ke kan tak pahunch hi nahin saki yaha tak ke sooraj ki garmi ne unhen bedar kiya, to woh uthe to Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum log wazu karo, phir Bilal (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne azan di, to Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne do rakat fajr ki sunnat padhi, aur logoon ne bhi fajr ki do rakat sunnat padhi, phir logoon ne fajr padhi.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، خُشَيْشُ بْنُ أَصْرَمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ فِي سَفَرٍ لَهُ ‏"‏ مَنْ يَكْلَؤُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ لاَ نَرْقُدَ عَنْ صَلاَةِ الصُّبْحِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ بِلاَلٌ أَنَا ‏.‏ فَاسْتَقْبَلَ مَطْلَعَ الشَّمْسِ فَضُرِبَ عَلَى آذَانِهِمْ حَتَّى أَيْقَظَهُمْ حَرُّ الشَّمْسِ فَقَامُوا فَقَالَ ‏"‏ تَوَضَّئُوا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ أَذَّنَ بِلاَلٌ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَصَلَّوْا رَكْعَتَىِ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ صَلَّوُا الْفَجْرَ ‏.‏

Sunan an-Nasa'i 625

It was narrated that Ibn Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said: "The Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) set out at nightfall, then stopped to camp at the end of the night, and he did not wake up until the sun had risen or had partly risen. He did not pray until the sun had risen (fully), then he prayed, and that was the 'middle prayer' (Salat Al-Wusta)."


Grade: Da'if

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہم کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ رات میں چلے، پھر رات کے آخری حصہ میں سونے کے لیے پڑاؤ ڈالا، تو آپ جاگ نہیں سکے یہاں تک کہ سورج نکل آیا، یا اس کا کچھ حصہ نکل آیا، اور آپ نماز نہیں پڑھ سکے یہاں تک کہ سورج اوپر چڑھ آیا، پھر آپ نے نماز پڑھی، اور یہی «صلوٰۃ وسطی» ہے ۔

Abdul-Allah bin Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool-Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) raat mein chale, phir raat ke aakhiri hisse mein sone ke liye padau dala, to aap jaag nahin sake yahin tak ke sooraj nikal aaya, ya is ka kuchh hissa nikal aaya, aur aap namaz nahin padh sake yahin tak ke sooraj upar charh aaya, phir aap ne namaz padhi, aur yahi «Salawat-e-Wasti» hai 1؎.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلاَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبٌ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ هَرِمٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ أَدْلَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ثُمَّ عَرَّسَ فَلَمْ يَسْتَيْقِظْ حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ أَوْ بَعْضُهَا فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ حَتَّى ارْتَفَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَصَلَّى وَهِيَ صَلاَةُ الْوُسْطَى ‏.‏
