Who disliked women wearing perfume when they go out
مَنْ كَرِهَ لِلْمَرْأَةِ الطِّيبَ إِذَا خَرَجَتْ
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 26336
It is narrated on the authority of Ibrahim that once 'Umar bin Khattab went out on the occasion of 'Id. He happened to pass by (a group of) women and smelt the fragrance of perfume from one of them. He said: "Who is this perfumed lady? If I recognize her, I will give her such and such punishment, because a woman should use perfume only for her husband. And when she goes out, she should put on soiled clothes, or the clothes of her maid-servant." On this the women said: "This woman got up after finishing her period."
حضرت ابراہیم فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت عمر بن خطاب عید کے دن نکلے، آپ کا گزر عورتوں کے پاس سے ہوا، تو آپ کو کسی عورت کے سر سے خوشبو محسوس ہوئی، آپ نے پوچھا : یہ خوشبو والی عورت کون ہے ؟ اگر میں نے اس کو پہچان لیا تو میں اس کو ایسی اور ایسی سزادوں گا، اس لیے کہ عورت صرف اپنے خاوند کے لیے خوشبو لگا سکتی ہے۔ اور جب وہ نکلے تو اپنے کوئی بوسیدہ یا اپنی خادمہ کے بوسیدہ کپڑے پہن لے، اس پر عورتوں نے بتایا کہ یہ عورت حدث کی وجہ سے اٹھی ہے۔
Hazrat Ibrahim farmate hain keh Hazrat Umar bin Khattab Eid ke din nikle, aap ka guzar auraton ke paas se hua, to aap ko kisi aurat ke sar se khushbu mehsoos hui, aap ne pucha : yeh khushbu wali aurat kon hai ? Agar maine is ko pehchan liya to main is ko aisi aur aisi saza dun ga, is liye keh aurat sirf apne khaawind ke liye khushbu laga sakti hai. Aur jab woh nikle to apne koi poseeda ya apni khadima ke poseeda kapde pehan le, is par auraton ne bataya keh yeh aurat hadath ki wajah se uthi hai.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "If a woman uses perfume and passes by people (men) so that they can smell her fragrance, then her Salat (prayer) will not be accepted until she takes a bath like that of Janabah (sexual defilement).".
حضرت ابوہریرہ فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا : جو کوئی عورت خوشبو لگائے پھر مسجد کی طرف نکلے تاکہ اس کی خوشبو محسوس کی جائے، تو اس کی نماز قبول نہیں ہوتی یہاں تک کہ وہ جنابت کے غسل کی طرح غسل کرلے۔
Hazrat Abu Hurairah farmate hain keh Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne irshad farmaya: Jo koi aurat khushbu lagaye phir masjid ki taraf nikle taake uski khushbu mehsoos ki jaye, to uski namaz qubool nahin hoti yahan tak keh woh janabat ke ghusl ki tarah ghusl karle.
Hazrat Zainab, the wife of Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood, narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When any one of you women intends to go to the mosque, she should not apply perfume.
حضرت زینب جو حضرت عبداللہ بن مسعود کی زوجہ ہیں وہ فرماتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ہمیں ارشاد فرمایا : جب تم میں سے کوئی عورت مسجد کی طرف نکلے تو اس کو چاہیے کہ وہ خوشبو مت لگائے۔
Hazrat Zainab jo Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood ki zojah hain woh farmati hain keh Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne humain irshad farmaya: Jab tum mein se koi aurat masjid ki taraf nikle to us ko chahiye keh woh khushbu mat lagaye.
Hazrat Abu Ubaidah narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood smelled the fragrance of Oud from his wife while she was in Makkah. You swore to her that she would not leave that night.
حضرت ابو عبیدہ فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت عبداللہ بن مسعود نے اپنی بیوی سے عود کی خوشبو محسوس کی اس حال میں کہ وہ مکہ میں تھی، آپ نے اس کو قسم دی کہ وہ اس رات نہیں نکلے گی۔
Hazrat Abu Ubaidah farmate hain ke Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood ne apni biwi se oud ki khushbu mehsoos ki is haal mein ke woh Makkah mein thi, aap ne usko qasam di ke woh is raat nahi niklegi.
Hazrat Usman bin Abdullah bin Suraqa narrates that my mother said: "My paternal uncle came to visit me, so I applied perfume and then came out. The Prophet (ﷺ) sent me a message through a messenger, "Indeed, perfume is applied for the husband."
حضرت عثمان بن عبداللہ بن سراقہ فرماتے ہیں کہ میری والدہ نے ارشاد فرمایا : کہ میرے دیور نے میرے پاس قیام کیا تو میں نے خوشبو لگائی پھر میں نکلی، تو حضرت حفصہ نے میری طرف قاصد کے ذریعے پیغام بھیجا کہ بیشک خوشبو تو خاوند کے لیے لگائی جاتی ہے۔
Hazrat Usman bin Abdullah bin Suraqa farmate hain ke meri walida ne irshad farmaya: Ke mere devar ne mere paas qayam kiya to maine khushbu lagai phir mein nikli, to Hazrat Hafsa ne meri taraf qasid ke zariye paigham bheja ke beshak khushbu to khaawand ke liye lagai jati hai.
Hazrat A'mash narrated that Hazrat Ibrahim's wife sought permission from him to visit her parents, and you granted her permission. Then, when you smelled the fragrance of incense from her, you stopped her and said: Verily, when a woman applies fragrance and then leaves the house, there is such a fitnah (trial or temptation) in her fragrance that it is like fire.
حضرت اعمش فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت ابراہیم سے ان کی بیوی نے اپنے گھر والوں کے پاس جانے کی اجازت مانگی تو آپ نے اسے اجازت دے دی۔ پھر آپ کو اس سے دھونی کی خوشبو محسوس ہوئی تو آپ نے اس کو روک دیا اور فرمایا : بیشک عورت جب خوشبو لگائے پھر گھر سے نکلے، تو اس کی خوشبو میں ایسا فتنہ ہے جس میں آگ ہے۔

Hazrat Muhammad bin Munkadar narrates that Hazrat Asma came to meet her sister Hazrat Aisha while Hazrat Zubair was not present. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) smelled a pleasant fragrance. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: It is not permissible for a woman to wear perfume when her husband is not present.
حضرت محمد بن منکدر فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت اسمائ اپنی بہن حضرت عائشہ سے ملاقات کے لیے آئیں اس حال میں کہ حضرت زبیر موجود نہیں تھے۔ پس نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) داخل ہوئے تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے پاکیزہ خوشبو محسوس کی، آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : عورت کے لیے درست نہیں ہے کہ وہ خوشبو لگائے جبکہ اس کا خاوند موجود نہ ہو۔

Pas Nabi Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) dakhil huye to aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne pakiza khushbu mehsoos ki, aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: Aurat ke liye durust nahin hai ke woh khushbu lagaye jabke uska khawanad maujood na ho.
