What is mentioned about the virtue and reward of fasting
مَا ذُكِرَ فِي فَضْلِ الصِّيَامِ، وَثَوَابِهِ
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 8891
Mutarrif ibn Abdullah ibn ash-Shikhkhir reported: I visited Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, and he brought me a pregnant camel's milk to drink. I said, "I am fasting." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'Fasting is a shield for you from the Hellfire, just as one of you takes up a shield for protection from the enemy.' The best fasting after that is to fast three days from each month."
حضرت مطرف بن عبداللہ بن شخیر کہتے ہیں کہ میں ایک مرتبہ حضرت عثمان ابن ابی العاص کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا ۔ انھوں نے میرے لیے حاملہ اونٹنی کا دودھ منگوایا۔ میں نے کہا کہ میں روزے سے ہوں۔ انھوں نے فرمایا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ روزہ جہنم کے مقابلے میں اس طرح ڈھال ہے جیسے تم دشمن کے مقابلے کے لیے ڈھال لیتے ہو۔ بہترین روزہ رکھنے کی صورت یہ ہے کہ ہر مہینے تین روزے رکھے جائیں۔
Hazrat Mutraf bin Abdullah bin Shakhīr kehte hain ki main ek martaba Hazrat Usman ibn Abi al-As ki khidmat mein hazir hua. Unhon ne mere liye hamila untni ka doodh mungvaya. Maine kaha ki main rozey se hun. Unhon ne farmaya ki maine Rasul Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko farmate huye suna hai ki roza jahannam ke muqable mein is tarah dhaal hai jaise tum dushman ke muqable ke liye dhaal lete ho. Behtarin roza rakhne ki surat yeh hai ki har mahine teen rozey rakhe jayen.
Hazrat Abdullah narrated that fasting is a shield against the fire of Hell, just as one of you uses a shield against the enemy, according to his capacity.
حضرت عبداللہ نے فرمایا کہ روزہ جہنم کے مقابلے میں ایسے ڈھال ہے جیسے تم میں سے کوئی شخص دشمن کے مقابلے میں ہتھیار کے طور پر اپنی بساط کے مطابق ڈھال استعمال کرتا ہے۔
Hazrat Abdullah ne farmaya keh rozah jahannum ke muqable mein aise dhaal hai jaise tum mein se koi shakhs dushman ke muqable mein hathiyar ke taur par apni basat ke mutabiq dhaal istemal karta hai
"It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abu Hurairah and Hazrat Abu Saeed that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that Allah Almighty says: Fasting is for Me and I will give its reward. There are two joys for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking the fast, he is happy and the second when he will meet his Lord and he will be happy. By the One in whose grip is my life, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is more beloved to Allah than the fragrance of musk."
حضرت ابوہریرہ اور حضرت ابو سعید سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتے ہیں کہ روزہ میرے لیے ہے اور میں ہی اس کا اجر دیتا ہوں۔ روزہ دار کے لیے دو خوشیاں ہیں ایک افطار کے وقت وہ خوش ہوتا ہے اور دوسری اس وقت جب وہ اپنے رب سے ملے گا اور خوش ہوگا۔ قسم ہے اس ذات کی جس کے قبضے میں میری جان ہے روزہ دار کے منہ کی بدبو اللہ کے نزدیک مشک کی خوشبو سے بھی زیادہ پسندیدہ ہے۔
Hazrat Abu Hurairah aur Hazrat Abu Saeed se riwayat hai keh Rasool Allah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) ne irshad farmaya keh Allah Ta'ala farmate hain keh roza mere liye hai aur mein hi is ka ajr deta hun. Rozedar ke liye do khushiyan hain ek iftar ke waqt woh khush hota hai aur dusri us waqt jab woh apne Rab se milay ga aur khush hoga. Qasam hai is zaat ki jis ke qabze mein meri jaan hai rozedar ke munh ki badbu Allah ke qareeb mushk ki khushbu se bhi ziada pasandida hai.
It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied for him; a good deed receives tenfold to seven hundred fold reward." Allah Almighty says: "Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will reward it." The fasting person gives up his food and his desire for My sake. The fasting person will have two joys: a joy when he breaks his fast and a joy when he meets his Lord. The smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better than the fragrance of musk to Allah. Fasting is a shield, fasting is a shield.
حضرت ابوہریرہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ ابن آدم کا ہر عمل کئی گنا بڑھایا جاتا ہے۔ ایک نیکی کا اجر دس گنا سے سات سو گنا تک بڑھا دیا جاتا ہے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتے ہیں کہ سوائے روزے کے کیونکہ روزہ میرے لیے ہے اور میں ہی اس کا بدلہ دیتا ہوں۔ روزہ دار میرے لیے اپنے کھانے اور اپنی شہوت کو چھوڑتا ہے، روزہ دار کے لیے دو خوشیاں ہیں ایک وہ خوشی جو اسے افطار کے وقت ہوتی ہے اور دوسری وہ خوشی جو اسے اپنے رب سے ملاقات کے وقت ہوگی۔ روزہ دار کے منہ کی بو اللہ کے نزدیک مشک سے زیادہ پسندیدہ ہے۔ روزہ ڈھال ہے روزہ ڈھال ہے۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira se riwayat hai keh Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne irshad farmaya keh Ibn e Adam ka har amal kai guna barhaya jata hai. Ek neki ka ajr das guna se saat so guna tak barha diya jata hai. Allah Ta'ala farmate hain keh siwaye rozey ke kyunki roza mere liye hai aur main hi iska badla deta hun. Rozedar mere liye apne khane aur apni shahwat ko chorta hai, rozedar ke liye do khushiyan hain ek wo khushi jo use iftar ke waqt hoti hai aur dusri wo khushi jo use apne Rab se mulakat ke waqt hogi. Rozedar ke munh ki bu Allah ke nazdeek mushk se zyada pasandida hai. Roza dhaal hai roza dhaal hai.
Hazrat Abu Umama narrated that I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me of such an action which will cause me to enter Paradise." He said: "Observe fasts, for there is nothing equivalent to it." After this, the condition of Hazrat Abu Umama became such that smoke could only be seen coming from his house when there was a guest in his house.
حضرت ابو امامہ فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کیا کہ اے اللہ کے رسول ! مجھے ایسے عمل کے بارے میں بتا دیجئے جو مجھے جنت میں داخل کردے۔ آپ نے فرمایا کہ تم روزے رکھا کرو کیونکہ اس کے مثل کوئی چیز نہیں۔ اس کے بعد سے حضرت ابو امامہ کا یہ حال تھا کہ ان کے گھر سے اس وقت دھواں نظر آتا تھا جب ان کے گھر میں کوئی مہمان ہوتا۔
Hazrat Abu Umama farmate hain keh maine arz kiya keh aye Allah ke Rasool! Mujhe aise amal ke bare mein bata dijiye jo mujhe jannat mein dakhil karde. Aap ne farmaya keh tum rozey rakha karo kyunki is ke misl koi cheez nahin. Is ke baad se Hazrat Abu Umama ka yeh haal tha keh un ke ghar se us waqt dhuan nazar aata tha jab un ke ghar mein koi mehman hota.
Hazrat Sahl bin Saad Saidi narrates that there is a door in Paradise, which is called "Rayyan", through which those who fast will enter. When the last fasting person will enter Paradise, then it will be closed.
حضرت سہل بن سعد ساعدی فرماتے ہیں کہ جنت کا ایک دروازہ ہے جسے ” ریان “ کہا جاتا ہے، اس میں سے روزہ دار داخل ہوں گے۔ جب آخری روزہ دار جنت میں داخل ہوگا تو اسے بند کردیا جائے گا۔
Hazrat Sahl bin Saad Saeedi farmate hain keh jannat ka aik darwaza hai jise "Rayyan" kaha jata hai, is mein se rozedar dakhil honge. Jab aakhri rozedar jannat mein dakhil hoga to use band kar diya jayega.
Hazrat Iyaz bin Ghaith narrates that we went to Hazrat Abu Ubaidah, and he said that fasting is a shield as long as a person does not tear it.
حضرت عیاض بن غطیف فرماتے ہیں کہ ہم حضرت ابو عبیدہ کے پاس حاضر ہوئے انھوں نے فرمایا کہ روزہ ڈھال ہے جب تک آدمی اس کو پھاڑ نہ ڈالے۔
Hazrat Ayaz bin Ghareef farmate hain ki hum Hazrat Abu Ubaidah ke paas hazir huye unhon ne farmaya ki roza dhaal hai jab tak aadmi us ko phaar na daale.
Hazrat Iyaz bin Ghaith narrates that we visited Hazrat Abu Ubaidah during his last illness. He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying that fasting is a shield as long as a person does not tear it."
حضرت عیاض بن غطیف فرماتے ہیں کہ ہم حضرت ابو عبیدہ کے پاس ان کے مرض الوفات میں حاضر ہوئے انھوں نے فرمایا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ روزہ ڈھال ہے جب تک آدمی اس کو پھاڑ نہ ڈالے۔
Hazrat Ayaz bin Ghaith farmate hain ke hum Hazrat Abu Ubaidah ke pas unke marz ul wafaat mein hazir huye unhon ne farmaya ke maine Rasul Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko farmate huye suna hai ke roza dhaal hai jab tak aadmi usko phaar na daale.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Rabah narrates that we went to Hazrat Muawiya as a delegation. On the way we met a monk. We were with him that food was served. People ate food but I did not eat food. The monk asked me why don't you eat food? I said that I am fasting. He said that I urge you to fast because one time a table will be laid and the first to eat from it will be those who fast.
حضرت عبداللہ بن رباح فرماتے ہیں کہ ہم ایک وفد کی صورت میں حضرت معاویہ کی طرف روانہ ہوئے۔ راستے میں ایک راہب سے ہماری ملاقات ہوئی۔ ہم اس کے پاس تھے کہ کھانا لایا گیا۔ لوگوں نے کھانا کھایا لیکن میں نے کھانا نہیں کھایا۔ اس راہب نے مجھ سے پوچھا کہ تم کھانا کیوں نہیں کھاتے ؟ میں نے کہا کہ میرا روزہ ہے۔ اس نے کہا کہ میں تمہیں روزے رکھنے کی تلقین کرتا ہوں کیونکہ ایک وقت دستر خوان بچھائے جائیں گے اور ان سے سب سے پہلے کھانے والے روزہ دار ہوں گے۔
Hazrat Abdullah bin Rabah farmate hain keh hum aik wafad ki soorat mein Hazrat Muawiya ki taraf rawana huay. Raste mein aik rahib se hamari mulaqat hui. Hum uss ke paas thay keh khana laya gaya. Logon ne khana khaya lekin maine khana nahi khaya. Iss rahib ne mujh se poocha keh tum khana kyun nahi khate? Maine kaha keh mera roza hai. Uss ne kaha keh main tumhen rozey rakhne ki taleem karta hun kyunkeh aik waqt dastarkhwan bichaye jayenge aur un se sab se pehle khane wale rozaydaar honge.
Hazrat Abu Musa narrates that once we were traveling in the sea, we had our sails up high. We could not see any island or anything else. Suddenly, we heard a voice, "O people of the ship! Stop, I have something to tell you." We stood up and looked, but we could not see anything. The caller called out seven times. On the seventh time, I stood up and said, "Whoever you are, tell us what you want to say, you are seeing our condition and know that we cannot stop by you." He said, "I want to inform you of a decree of Allah Almighty, which He has made obligatory upon Himself! It is that whoever keeps himself thirsty for the sake of Allah on a hot day, Allah Almighty will quench his thirst on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Usamah says that after this, you would never see Hazrat Abu Musa without fasting.
حضرت ابو موسیٰ فرماتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ ہم سمندر میں سفر کررہے تھے، ہم نے اپنے بادبان بلند کر رکھے تھے۔ ہمیں کوئی جزیرہ دکھائی نہ دے رہا تھا اور نہ کوئی دوسری چیز ہمیں نظر آرہی تھی۔ اتنے میں ہمیں آواز آئی اے کشتی والو ! ٹھہر جاؤ میں تمہیں ایک بات بتاتا ہوں۔ ہم کھڑے ہو کر دیکھنے لگے لیکن ہم کو کچھ نظر نہ آیا۔ اس پکارنے والے نے سات مرتبہ آواز دی۔ ساتویں مرتبہ میں کھڑا ہوا اور میں نے کہا کہ تو جو کوئی بھی ہے ہمیں وہ بات بتادے جو بتانا چاہتا ہے، تو ہماری حالت کو دیکھ رہا ہے اور جانتا ہے کہ ہم تیرے پاس کھڑے نہیں ہوسکتے۔ اس نے کہا میں تمہیں اللہ تعالیٰ کے ایک فیصلے سے آگاہ کرنا چاہتا ہوں جو اس نے اپنے اوپر لازم کیا ہے ! وہ یہ ہے کہ جو بندہ اللہ کے لیے خود کو ایک گرم دن میں پیاسا رکھے گا اللہ تعالیٰ قیامت کے دن اسے سیراب فرمائیں گے۔ ابو اسامہ فرماتے ہیں کہ اس کے بعد آپ کبھی حضرت ابو موسیٰ کو بغیر روزے کے نہ دیکھ سکتے تھے۔
Hazrat Abu Musa farmate hain ke aik martaba hum samandar mein safar kar rahe thay, hum ne apne baadban buland kar rakhe thay. Hamein koi jazeerah dikhayi nah de raha tha aur na koi doosri cheez hamein nazar aa rahi thi. Itne mein hamein aawaz aayi ae kashti walo! Theher jao main tumhein aik baat batata hoon. Hum kharay ho kar dekhne lage lekin hum ko kuch nazar nah aaya. Iss pukarne wale ne saat martaba aawaz di. Saatwein martaba mein khara huwa aur maine kaha ke tu jo koi bhi hai hamein woh baat batade jo batana chahta hai, tu hamari haalat ko dekh raha hai aur janta hai ke hum tere paas kharay nahin ho sakte. Iss ne kaha main tumhein Allah ta'ala ke aik faisle se aagah karna chahta hoon jo uss ne apne upar laazim kiya hai! Woh yeh hai ke jo banda Allah ke liye khud ko aik garam din mein pyasa rakhe ga Allah ta'ala qayamat ke din usse sairab farmaenge. Abu Usama farmate hain ke iss ke baad aap kabhi Hazrat Abu Musa ko baghair rozey ke nah dekh sakte thay.
It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The supplication of a fasting person is not rejected."
حضرت ابوہریرہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ روزہ دار کی دعا رد نہیں ہوتی۔

It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "In Paradise there is a gate for every deed, and the people of that deed will be called from that gate. The name of the gate for those who fast is Ar-Rayyan."
حضرت ابوہریرہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ جنت میں ہر عمل کے لیے ایک مخصوص دروازہ ہے ، اس عمل والوں کو اس دروازے سے پکارا جائے گا۔ روزہ داروں کے دروازے کا نام ” ریان “ ہے۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira se riwayat hai keh Rasul Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne irshad farmaya keh Jannat mein har amal ke liye ek makhsus darwaza hai, uss amal walon ko uss darwaze se pukara jayega. Rozedaron ke darwaze ka naam "Rayyan" hai.
