Chapter: Missing Friday Prayer Due to Rain, Mud, or Slipperiness

Muhammad bin Sirin narrated from Ibn Abbas that he would tell his mu'azzin on rainy days: When you say "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasoolullah" (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah), do not say "Hayya 'alas-salah" (Come to prayer), but say "Sallu fi buyutikum" (Pray in your homes). The people objected to this, so he said: "This was said by those who were better than me," meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "and Jumu'ah is obligatory. I dislike the idea of making you come out and walk in the mud and dirt."

(٥٦٤٥) محمد بن سیرین ابن عباس سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ وہ اپنے مؤذن کو بارش کے دن فرماتے : جب تو ’ اشھدان محمدا رسول اللہ “ کہے تو ” حی علی الصلوٰۃ “ نہ کہہ بلکہ کہہ : ” صلوا فی بیوتکم “ اپنے گھروں میں نماز پڑھو۔ لوگوں نے اس کا انکار کردیا تو آپ نے فرمایا : یہ انھوں نے فرمایا ہے جو مجھ سے بہتر تھے یعنی نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے اور جمعہ فرض ہے۔ میں ناپسند کرتا ہوں کہ میں تمہیں نکالوں اور تم مٹی اور کیچڑ میں چل کر آؤ۔
(5645) Muhammad bin Sirin Ibn Abbas se naqal farmate hain ki woh apne moazzin ko barish ke din farmate : jab tu ' ashadu anna muhammadar rasulullah ' kahe to ' hayya alas salaa ' na kah balki kah : ' salu fee buyutikum ' apne gharon mein namaz parho. Logon ne iska inkar kardiya to aap ne farmaya : yeh unhon ne farmaya hai jo mujh se behtar thay yani Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne aur jummah farz hai. Mein napasand karta hun ki mein tumhen nikalun aur tum mitti aur kechar mein chal kar aao.
(5646) (a) Narrated Abdullah bin Harith: Ibn Abbas delivered the Khutbah to us on a muddy day and when the Mu'adhdhin reached the words "Hayya 'Ala-s-Salah" (come for the prayer) he ordered him to pronounce: "As-Salatu fi Ar-Rihal" (Pray in your homes). The people started looking at one another. He said, "It seems you disliked it, but it was done by one who was better than I (i.e. the Prophet) and the Friday prayer is compulsory."
(b) In the narration of Musaddad (it is said): On a very muddy day...

(٥٦٤٦) (الف) عبداللہ بن حارث فرماتے ہیں کہ عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) نے ہمیں کیچڑ والے دن خطبہ دیا اور جب موذن حَیَّ عَلَی الصَّلاَۃ تک پہنچاتو اس کو حکم دیا کہ وہ آواز دے : الصَّلاَۃُ فِی الرِّحَالِ نماز گھروں میں پڑھوتولوگ ایک دوسرے کی جانب دیکھنے لگے۔ فرمایا : گویا کہ تم نے اس کا انکار کیا ہے ! یہ کام انھوں نے کیا ہے جو مجھ سے بہتر تھے یعنی نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے اور جمعہ فرض ہے۔
(ب) مسدد کی روایت میں ہے : سخت کیچڑ والے دن۔
(5646) (alif) Abdullah bin Haris farmate hain keh Abdullah bin Abbas (rz) ne hamen kechar wale din khutba diya aur jab moazin hayya alas-salat tak pahuncha to us ko hukm diya keh woh awaz de : as-salatu fir-rihal namaz gharon mein parho to log ek dusre ki janib dekhne lage farmaaya : goya keh tum ne is ka inkar kiya hai! yeh kaam unhon ne kiya hai jo mujh se behtar the yani Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne aur jumma farz hai
(be) Musaddad ki riwayat mein hai : sakht kechar wale din.
(5647) Narrated Abdullah bin Harith: Ibn Abbas' Mu'adh-dhin pronounced the Adhan for the Jumua prayer on a rainy day. When he said, "Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar. Ash-hadu an la ilaha illal-lahu. Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah," Ibn 'Abbas said to him, "Pray in your homes." You (the Prophet) said, "I disliked to order you (to go to the mosque) though a better man than I (i.e. the Prophet) did so. I disliked to put you into hardship and make you walk in mud and slipperiness."

(٥٦٤٧) عبداللہ بن حارث فرماتے ہیں کہ ابن عباس (رض) کے مؤذن نے جمعہ کے دن بارش کے وقت اذان دی۔ جب اس نے کہا : اللَّہُ أَکْبَرُ اللَّہُ أَکْبَرُ أَشْہَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَہَ إِلاَّ اللَّہُ أَشْہَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّہِ تو کہا : صَلُّوا فِی رِحَالِکُم تم اپنے گھروں میں نماز پڑھو۔ آپ فرماتے ہیں : میں ناپسند کرتا ہوں کہ میں تمہیں نکالوں حالانکہ یہ کام مجھ سے بہتر انسان نے کیا یعنی نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے اور میں ناپسند کرتا ہوں کہ تم کیچڑ اور پھسلن میں چلو۔
(5647) Abdullah bin Haris farmate hain ke Ibn Abbas (RA) ke moazzan ne jumma ke din barish ke waqt azan di. Jab usne kaha: Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Ashhadu an la ilaha illal lahu Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasoolullah to kaha: Sallu fee rihalikum tum apne gharon mein namaz parho. Aap farmate hain: main napasand karta hun ke main tumhen nikalun halanke ye kaam mujhse behtar insan ne kiya yani Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne aur main napasand karta hun ke tum keechad aur phislan mein chalo.
Qatadah reported on the authority of Abu Malih that he visited the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ) on a rainy day. He ( صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ) ordered his mu'adhdhin to announce that people should offer prayer in their homes. Abu Malih said: It was Friday, but Qatadah did not mention that it was Friday.

(٥٦٤٨) قتادہ ابوملیح سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ وہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس بارش والے دن حاضر ہوئے تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے اپنے مؤذن کو حکم دیا کہ وہ منادی کرے کہ نماز تم گھروں میں پڑھ لو۔ ابوملیح کہتے ہیں : یہ جمعہ کا دن تھا، لیکن قتادہ نے جمعہ کے دن کا تذکرہ نہیں کیا۔
Qatadah AbuMulaih se naql farmate hain ki woh Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke paas barish wale din hazir hue to aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne apne muazzin ko hukum diya ki woh munaddi kare ki namaz tum gharon mein parh lo. AbuMulaih kahte hain: Yeh jumma ka din tha, lekin Qatadah ne jumma ke din ka tazkara nahi kiya.
Abu Malih narrated from his father that he went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a Friday, and the bottom of his shoes were not even wet from the rain, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them to pray in their homes.

(٥٦٤٩) ابو ملیح اپنے والد سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ وہ جمعہ کے دن رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس آئے اور بارش کی وجہ سے ان کے جوتوں کا نیچے والا حصہ بھی تر نہیں ہوا تھا تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے حکم دیا کہ تم اپنے گھروں میں نماز پڑھو۔
(5649) Abu Malih apne walid se naql farmate hain ki woh jumma ke din Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke pass aaye aur baarish ki wajah se unke joton ka neeche wala hissa bhi tar nahin hua tha to aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne hukum diya ki tum apne gharon mein namaz parho.
