Abu Musa al-Ash‘ari told on the Prophet’s authority that he used to use this supplication:“O God, forgive me my sin, my ignorance, my extravagance in my affairs, and what Thou knowest better than I do. O God, forgive me my serious and my frivolous sins, my unintentional and my intentional sins, for I am guilty of all that. O God, forgive me my former and my latter sins, what I have kept secret and what I have done openly, and what Thou knowest better than I do. Thou art the Advancer, Thou art the Delayer, and Thou art omnipotent.”

ابوموسیٰ اشعری ؓ نبی ﷺ سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ آپ یہ دعا کیا کرتے تھے :’’ اے اللہ ! میری خطائیں ، میری جہالت ، اور تمام امور میں جو مجھ سے زیادتی ہوئی جسے تو مجھ سے زیادہ جانتا ہے ، معاف فرما دے ، اے اللہ ! میں نے جو دانستہ کیا جو بھول چوک سے ہوا اور جو کچھ عمداً کیا یہ سب کچھ مجھ میں ہے تو اسے معاف کر دے ، اے اللہ ! میں نے جو آگے بھیجا اور جو پیچھے چھوڑا ، میں نے جو علانیہ کیا اور جو چھپ کر کیا اور جسے تو مجھ سے زیادہ جانتا ہے سب معاف کر دے ، تو ہی آگے کرنے والا اور تو ہی پیچھے کرنے والا ہے اور تو ہر چیز پر قادر ہے ۔‘‘ متفق علیہ ۔
Abu Musa Ashari (RA) Nabi (SAW) se riwayat karte hain ke aap yeh dua kiya karte thay: "Aye Allah! Meri khata'en, meri jahalat, aur tamam umoor mein jo mujh se zyadti hui jise Tu mujh se zyada janta hai, maaf farma de. Aye Allah! Maine jo danista kiya jo bhool chook se hua aur jo kuchh amdan kiya yeh sab kuchh mujh mein hai to use maaf kar de. Aye Allah! Maine jo aage bheja aur jo peechhe chhora, maine jo alaniya kiya aur jo chhup kar kiya aur jise Tu mujh se zyada janta hai sab maaf kar de. Tu hi aage karne wala aur Tu hi peechhe karne wala hai aur Tu har cheez par qadir hai." Muttafiq alaih.
Abu Huraira said that God’s messenger used to say, “O God, order well for me my religion which is the support of my affairs; order well for me my worldly affairs in which my livelihood is found; order well for me my life to come where is my ultimate destination; make life for me a means of increase in all that is good; and make death a rest for me from every evil.”

ابوہریرہ ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ دعا کیا کرتے تھے :’’ اے اللہ ! میرے دین کی اصلاح فرما جو کہ میرے تمام معاملات کا محافظ ہے ، میری دنیا کی اصلاح فرما جس میں میری معاش ہے ، میری آخرت کی اصلاح فرما جہاں مجھے لوٹ کر جانا ہے ، زندگی کو ہر قسم کی خیر و بھلائی میں اضافہ کا باعث بنا اور موت کو ہر قسم کے شر سے راحت کا باعث بنا ۔‘‘ رواہ مسلم ۔
Abu Huraira RA bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah SAW dua kiya karte thy: "Aye Allah! Mere deen ki islaah farma jo keh mere tamam mamlaat ka muhafiz hai, meri duniya ki islaah farma jis mein meri maash hai, meri aakhirat ki islaah farma jahan mujhe laut kar jana hai, zindagi ko har qisam ki khair o bhalai mein izafa ka baais bana aur maut ko har qisam ke shar se rahat ka baais bana." Riwayat Muslim.
‘Abdallah b. Mas'ud told on the authority of the Prophet that he used to say, "O God, I ask Thee for guidance, piety, self-control and a competence."

عبداللہ بن مسعود ؓ نبی ﷺ سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ آپ ﷺ دعا کیا کرتے تھے :’’ اے اللہ ! میں تجھ سے ہدایت ، تقوی اور عفت اور تونگری کا سوال کرتا ہوں ۔‘‘ رواہ مسلم ۔
Abdullah bin Masood RA Nabi SAW se riwayat karte hain keh aap SAW dua kiya karte thy: “Aye Allah! main tujh se hidayat, taqwa aur iffat aur tongri ka sawal karta hoon.” Riwayat Muslim.
‘Ali said that God’s messenger told him to say, "O God, guide me and dispose me to do what is right,” keeping in mind when asking for guidance his being guided in the right way, and when asking for disposal to do what is right an arrow’s faculty of hitting the mark.

علی ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے مجھے فرمایا :’’ کہو ، اے اللہ ! میری راہنمائی فرما ، مجھے درست رکھ اور (اے علی ؓ) راہنمائی سے راہ ہدایت پہ چلنے کا تصور اور درست ہونے سے تیر کا سا درست ہونا تصور میں رکھ ۔ رواہ مسلم ۔
Ali bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah ne mujhe farmaya :'' kaho, aye Allah! meri rahnumai farma, mujhe durust rakh aur (aye Ali) rahnumai se rah hidayat pe chalne ka tasavvur aur durust hone se teer ka sa durust hona tasavvur mein rakh. Rawah Muslim.
Abu Malik al-Ashja‘i told on his father’s authority that when a man accepted Islam the Prophet instructed him in the prayer, then commanded him to make supplication with these words, “O God, forgive me, show mercy to me, guide me, grant me health, and grant me provision.”

ابومالک اشجعی اپنے والد سے روایت کرتے ہیں ، انہوں نے کہا : ایک آدمی تھا جب اس نے اسلام قبول کیا تو نبی ﷺ نے اسے نماز سکھائی ، پھر اسے ان کلمات کے ذریعے دعا کرنے کا حکم فرمایا :’’ اے اللہ ! مجھے بخش دے ، مجھ پر رحم فرما ، مجھے عافیت میں رکھ اور مجھے رزق عطا فرما ۔‘‘ رواہ مسلم ۔
AbuMalik Ashjai apne walid se riwayat karte hain, unhon ne kaha: Ek aadmi tha jab us ne Islam qubool kiya to Nabi ﷺ ne usey namaz sikhayi, phir usey in kalimat ke zariye dua karne ka hukum farmaya: ''Aye Allah! Mujhe bakhsh de, mujh par reham farma, mujhe afiyat mein rakh aur mujhe rizq ata farma.'' Riwayat Muslim.
Anas said that the Prophet's most frequent supplication was, "O God, bring us blessing in this world, blessing in the next, and guard us from the punishment of hell."

انس ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، نبی ﷺ کی اکثر یہ دعا ہوا کرتی تھی ’’ اے اللہ ! ہمیں دنیا میں بھلائی عطا فرما اور آخرت میں بھلائی عطا فرما ، اور ہمیں آگ کے عذاب سے بچا ۔‘‘ متفق علیہ ۔
Anas bayan karte hain, Nabi ki aksar yeh dua hua karti thi ''Aye Allah! humain duniya mein bhalai ata farma aur aakhirat mein bhalai ata farma, aur humain aag ke azab se bacha.'' Mutafaq alaih.
Ibn ‘Abbas told that the Prophet used to say when making supplication, "My Lord, help me and do not give help against me; grant me victory and do not grant victory over me; plan on my behalf and do not plan against me; guide me and make right guidance easy for me; grant me victory over those who act wrongfully towards me. My Lord, make me grateful to Thee, mindful of Thee, full of fear towards Thee, devoted to Thy obedience, humble before Thee, earnest in supplication, and penitent. My Lord, accept my repentance, wash away my sin, answer my supplication, clearly establish my evidence, make true my tongue, guide my heart, and draw out the malice in my breast.”
Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

ابن عباس ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، نبی ﷺ دعا کیا کرتے تھے :’’ اے میرے رب ! میری اعانت فرما اور میرے خلاف (میرے دشمنوں کی) اعانت نہ فرما ، میری نصرت فرما اور میرے خلاف نصرت نہ فرما ، میرے لئے تدبیر فرما اور میرے خلاف تدبیر نہ فرما ، مجھے ہدایت نصیب فرما اور میرے لئے ہدایت آسان فرما دے ، جو شخص مجھ پر ظلم و سرکشی کرے اس کے خلاف میری نصرت فرما ، اے میرے رب ! مجھے اپنا شکر گزار ، تیرا ذکر کرنے والا ، تجھ سے ڈرنے والا ، تیرا انتہائی اطاعت گزار ، تیری عاجزی اختیار کرنے والا اور تیری طرف بہت زیادہ تضرع کرنے والا ، رجوع کرنے والا بنا ، اے میرے رب ! میری توبہ قبول فرما ، میرے گناہ معاف فرما ، میری دعا قبول فرما ، میری حجت و دلیل ثابت فرما ، میری زبان کو درست فرما ، میرے دل کی راہنمائی فرما ، اور میرے سینے کا کینہ دور فرما ۔‘‘ اسنادہ صحیح ، رواہ ابوداؤد و ابن ماجہ ۔
Ibn Abbas bayan karte hain, Nabi dua kya karte thay: ''Aye mere Rab! Meri inaayat farma aur mere khilaf (mere dushmanon ki) inaayat na farma, meri nusrat farma aur mere khilaf nusrat na farma, mere liye tadbeer farma aur mere khilaf tadbeer na farma, mujhe hidayat naseeb farma aur mere liye hidayat aasan farma de, jo shakhs mujh par zulm o sarkashi kare uske khilaf meri nusrat farma, Aye mere Rab! Mujhe apna shukar guzaar, tera zikr karne wala, tujhse darne wala, tera intehai itaat guzaar, teri aajzi ikhtiyar karne wala aur teri taraf bahut zyada tazarrue karne wala, rujue karne wala bana, Aye mere Rab! Meri tauba qubool farma, mere gunaah maaf farma, meri dua qubool farma, meri hujjat o daleel sabit farma, meri zaban ko durust farma, mere dil ki rahnumai farma, aur mere seene ka keena door farma.'' Isnaadahu Sahih, Riwayat Abu Dawood o Ibn Majah.
Abu Bakr said that God’s messenger mounted the pulpit, then wept and said, "Ask God for forgiveness and health, for after being granted certainty, one is given nothing better than health."

ابوبکر ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ منبر پر کھڑے ہوئے پھر رونے لگے اور فرمایا :’’ اللہ سے معافی اور عافیت کا سوال کرو ، کیونکہ کسی کو دولت ایمان نصیب ہو جانے کے بعد عافیت سے بہتر کوئی چیز عطا نہیں کی گئی ۔‘‘ ترمذی ، ابن ماجہ ۔ اور امام ترمذی ؒ نے فرمایا : یہ حدیث حسن ہے اور اور اس کی سند غریب ہے ۔ اسنادہ حسن ، رواہ الترمذی و ابن ماجہ ۔
Abu Bakar bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah manbar par kharay huay phir ronay lagay aur farmaya: Allah se maafi aur aafiyat ka sawal karo, kyunki kisi ko daulat eman naseeb ho janay ke baad aafiyat se behtar koi cheez ata nahi ki gayi. Tirmidhi, Ibn e Maja. Aur Imam Tirmidhi ne farmaya: Ye hadees hasan hai aur is ki sanad ghareeb hai. Asnada hasan, riwayat Tirmidhi wa Ibn e Maja.
Anas told of a man who came to the Prophet and asked him which supplication was most excellent. To this he replied, "Ask your Lord for health and for security from evil in this world and the next." He came to him on the following day, asked the same question, and received a similar reply. Then when he came on the third day he received a similar reply with this addition, "If you are given health and security from evil in this world and the next, you have attained felicity."
Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is ahasantradition whoseisnadisgharib.

انس ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ ایک آدمی نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا تو اس نے عرض کیا : اللہ کے رسول ! کون سی دعا افضل ہے ؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ اپنے رب سے دنیا و آخرت میں عافیت و معافات (باہم درگزر کرنا) مانگو ، پھر وہ دوسرے روز حاضر ہوا تو اس نے عرض کیا ، اللہ کے رسول ! کون سی دعا افضل ہے ؟ تو آپ ﷺ نے اسی طرح فرمایا ، پھر تیسرے روز آپ کے پاس آیا تو آپ ﷺ نے اسے پھر ویسے ہی فرمایا ، اور فرمایا :’’ جب تجھے دنیا و آخرت میں عافیت و معافات مل گئی تو تُو کامیاب ہو گیا ۔‘‘ ترمذی ۔ ابن ماجہ ۔ اور امام ترمذی نے فرمایا : یہ حدیث حسن ہے اور اس کی سند غریب ہے ۔ اسنادہ ضعیف ، رواہ الترمذی و ابن ماجہ ۔
Anas RA se riwayat hai ki aik aadmi Nabi SAW ki khidmat mein hazir hua tou us ne arz kiya : Allah ke Rasul! Kaun si dua afzal hai? Aap SAW ne farmaya: ''Apne Rab se duniya o akhirat mein aafiyat o mafiyat (baham darguzar karna) mango, phir wo dusre roz hazir hua tou us ne arz kiya, Allah ke Rasul! Kaun si dua afzal hai? Tou Aap SAW ne isi tarah farmaya, phir teesre roz aap ke pass aaya tou aap SAW ne use phir waise hi farmaya, aur farmaya: ''Jab tujhe duniya o akhirat mein aafiyat o mafiyat mil gayi tou tu kamyab ho gaya.'' Tirmizi. Ibn Majah. Aur Imam Tirmizi ne farmaya: Yah hadees hasan hai aur is ki sanad ghareeb hai. Isnaadah zaeef, riwayat al-Tirmizi wa Ibn Majah.
‘Abdallah b. Yazid al-Khatmi told on the authority of God's messenger that he used to say in his supplication, "O God, provide me with Thy love 1 and the love of those whose love will benefit me with Thee; O God, make the things I love with which Thou hast provided me a strength to me regarding what Thou lovest; O God, make the things I love which Thou hast turned away from me a means of my devoting myself to what Thou lovest."
1.hibbaka. This could be translated either as above or as "love of Thee", but the phrase which follows it suggests that the translation given above is the correct one in this context.

عبداللہ بن یزید خطمی ؓ رسول اللہ ﷺ سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ آپ اپنی دعا میں کہا کرتے تھے :’’ اے اللہ ! مجھے اپنی اور اس چیز کی محبت عطا فرما جس کی محبت مجھے تیرے ہاں فائدہ پہنچائے ، اے اللہ تو جو میری پسندیدہ چیز مجھے عطا فرمائے تو اسے میرے لئے ایسی چیز کی تقویت کا باعث بنا جسے تو پسند کرتا ہے ، اے اللہ ! تو میری جس پسندیدہ چیز کو مجھ سے روک لے تو اس کو میرے اس کام کے لئے باعث فراغت بنا جسے تو پسند کرتا ہے ۔‘‘ سندہ ضعیف ، رواہ الترمذی ۔
Abdullah bin Yazid Khatmi RA Rasool Allah SAW se riwayat karte hain keh aap apni dua mein kaha karte thay: “Ae Allah! Mujhe apni aur us cheez ki mohabbat ata farma jiski mohabbat mujhe tere han faida pahunchae, ae Allah tu jo meri pasendidah cheez mujhe ata farmae to use mere liye aisi cheez ki taqwiat ka bais bana jise tu pasand karta hai, ae Allah! Tu meri jis pasendidah cheez ko mujh se rok le to usko mere us kaam ke liye bais faraghat bana jise tu pasand karta hai.” Sanad zaeef, Rawah al-Tirmidhi.
Ibn ‘Umar said that God’s messenger seldom got up to leave an assembly without using these supplications for his companions:“O God, apportion to us such fear of Thee as will come between us and acts of disobedience to Thee, such obedience to Thee as will bring us to Thy paradise, and such certainty that the calamities of this world will be made easy for us by Thee; let us enjoy our hearing, our sight and our power as long as Thou dost grant us life, and do the same for those who inherit from us; grant us revenge on those who have wronged us and help us against those who are hostile to us; let no calamity befall our religion, let not worldly affairs be our greatest care or all that we know about, and let not those who do not show mercy towards us rule over us.”
Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is ahasan gharibtradition.

ابن عمر ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں، رسول اللہ ﷺ اکثر اوقات کسی مجلس سے اٹھنے سے پہلے ان کلمات کے ذریعے اپنے صحابہ کے لئے دعا کیا کرتے تھے :’’ اے اللہ ! ہمیں اپنی خشیت سے ایسا حصہ عطا فرما جو ہمارے اور تیری معاصی و نافرمانی کے درمیان حائل ہو جائے ، اور اپنی اطاعت سے ایسا حصہ عطا فرما جس کے ذریعے تو ہمیں اپنی جنت میں پہنچا دے ، اور یقین سے ایسا حصہ نصیب فرما جو دنیا کے مصائب ہم پر آسان کر دے ، جب تک تو ہمیں زندہ رکھے ، ہمارے کانوں ، ہماری آنکھوں اور ہماری قوت سے بہرہ مند فرما ، اور ان (مذکورہ چیزوں) کو باقی رکھنا ، جو شخص ہم پر ظلم کرے اس پر ہمارا غضب نازل فرما ، ہمارے دین (میں کمی) کے بارے میں ہم پر کوئی مصیبت نازل نہ فرما ، دنیا کو ہمارا سب سے بڑا مقصد بنا نہ ہمارے علم کی غایت و انتہا بنا ، اور ہم پر کسی ایسے کو مسلط نہ فرما جو ہم پر رحم نہ کرے ۔‘‘ ترمذی ۔ اور فرمایا : یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے ۔ سندہ ضعیف ، رواہ الترمذی ۔
Ibn Umar RA bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah SAW aksar auqat kisi majlis se uthne se pehle in kalimat ke zariye apne sahaba ke liye dua kiya karte the: ''Aye Allah! Hamein apni khushit se aisa hissa ata farma jo humare aur teri masi o nafarmani ke darmiyan hail ho jaye, aur apni itaat se aisa hissa ata farma jis ke zariye tu hamein apni jannat mein pahuncha de, aur yaqeen se aisa hissa naseeb farma jo duniya ke masaib hum par aasan kar de, jab tak tu hamein zinda rakhe, humare kaano, hamari aankhon aur hamari quwwat se bahra mand farma, aur in (mazkura cheezon) ko baqi rakhna, jo shakhs hum par zulm kare us par hamara ghazab nazil farma, humare deen (mein kami) ke bare mein hum par koi musibat nazil na farma, duniya ko hamara sab se bada maqsad bana na humare ilm ki ghayat o intiha bana, aur hum par kisi aise ko musallat na farma jo hum par reham na kare.'' Tirmidhi. Aur farmaya: Yah hadees hasan gharib hai. Sanad zaeef, riwayat al-Tirmidhi.
Abu Huraira told that God's messenger used to say, “O God, grant me benefit in what Thou hast taught me, teach me what will benefit me, and increase my knowledge. Praise be to God in all circumstances. I seek refuge in God from the state of those who go to hell.”
Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a tradition whoseisnadisgharib.

ابوہریرہ ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ دعا کیا کرتے تھے : اے اللہ ! تو نے مجھے جو علم عطا کیا اس سے مجھے فائدہ پہنچا ، اور مجھے ایسا علم عطا فرما جو مجھے فائدہ پہنچائے اور میرے علم میں اضافہ فرما ، ہر حال میں اللہ کا شکر ہے اور میں جہنمیوں کے حال سے اللہ کی پناہ چاہتا ہوں ۔‘‘ ترمذی ، ابن ماجہ ۔ اور امام ترمذی نے فرمایا : یہ حدیث سنداً غریب ہے ۔ اسنادہ ضعیف ، رواہ الترمذی و ابن ماجہ ۔
Abu Huraira bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah dua kya karte the: Aye Allah! Tu ne mujhe jo ilm ata kya us se mujhe faida pahuncha, aur mujhe aisa ilm ata farma jo mujhe faida pahunchae aur mere ilm mein izafa farma, har haal mein Allah ka shukar hai aur mein jahanmiyon ke haal se Allah ki panah chahta hun. Tirmizi, Ibn Maja. Aur Imam Tirmizi ne farmaya: Ye hadees sanadan gareeb hai. Isnaadahu zaeef, riwayat al-Tirmizi wa Ibn Maja.
‘Umar b. al-Khattab said:When the inspiration was sent down to the Prophet, a low sound was heard near his face like the humming of bees. One day when inspiration was sent down to him and we had waited for a time, it left him, then facing theqiblaand raising his hands, he said, “O God, give us more and do not give us less; honour us and do not humiliate us; give us and do not withhold from us; choose us and do not prefer others to us; please us and be pleased with us.” He then said, “I have had sent down to me ten verses which will provide entrance to paradise for those who recite them.” He then recited, “The believers have been successful” and continued till he had completed ten verses, 1

عمر بن خطاب ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، جب نبی ﷺ پر وحی نازل ہوتی تو آپ کے چہرے کے پاس شہد کی مکھیوں کی سی بھنبھناہٹ سنائی دیتی تھی ، ایک روز آپ پر وحی نازل ہوئی تو ہم نے تھوڑی دیر انتظار کیا ، آپ سے وہ کیفیت جاتی رہی تو آپ ﷺ نے قبلہ رخ ہو کر ہاتھ اٹھائے اور یوں دعا کی :’’ اے اللہ ! ہمیں زیادہ کر ، کم نہ کر ، ہمیں عزت عطا کرنا ، ذلیل نہ کرنا ، ہمیں عطا کرنا ، محروم نہ رکھنا ، ہمیں ترجیح دینا اور ہمارے خلاف کسی کو ترجیح نہ دینا ، ہمیں راضی کر اور ہم سے راضی ہو جا ۔‘‘ پھر آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ مجھ پر دس آیات نازل ہوئی ہیں ، جو ان کی حفاظت و خیال کرے گا جنت میں داخل ہو گا ۔‘‘ پھر آپ نے (قَدْ اَفْلَحَ الْمُوْمِنُوْنَ) سے دس آیات تلاوت فرمائی ۔ اسنادہ ضعیف ، رواہ احمد و الترمذی ۔
Umar bin Khattab bayan karte hain, jab Nabi par wahi nazil hoti to aap ke chehre ke paas shehad ki makhiyon ki si bhanbhanahat sunai deti thi, ek roz aap par wahi nazil hui to hum ne thori der intizar kiya, aap se wo kefiyat jati rahi to aap ne qibla rukh ho kar hath uthaye aur yun dua ki: ''Aye Allah! humein ziada kar, kam na kar, humein izzat ata karna, zelil na karna, humein ata karna, mehroom na rakhna, humein tarjih dena aur humare khilaf kisi ko tarjih na dena, humein raazi kar aur hum se raazi ho ja.'' Phir aap ne farmaya: ''Mujh par das ayat nazil hui hain, jo in ki hifazat o khayal karega jannat mein dakhil ho ga.'' Phir aap ne (Qad aflaha almuminoon) se das ayat tilawat farmai. ‘Uthman b. Hunaif told that a blind man came to the Prophet and asked him to pray to God to cure him. He replied, “If you wish, I shall make supplication to God, but if you wish you will endure, for that is better for you." The man asked him to make supplication. [‘Uthman] said:He then commanded him to perform ablution, doing it well, and make this supplication, “O God, I make request of Thee and I turn towards Thee by means of Thy prophet Muhammad, the prophet of mercy. By means of you 1 have turned towards my Lord to accomplish for me this need of mine. O God, make him an intercessor for me.”
1.bika. This would seem here to refer to the Prophet, although by itself it might naturally be taken to refer to God. The sentence which precedes certainly suggests that it must refer to the Prophet, in which case the translation might go, “by means of whom I have turned towards my Lord.” Changes of pronouns in Arabic often present difficulties to the translator.

عثمان بن حنیف ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، ایک نابینا شخص نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا تو اس نے عرض کیا ، اللہ سے دعا کریں کہ وہ مجھے عافیت عطا فرمائے ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا ’’ اگر تم چاہو تو میں دعا کرتا ہوں اور اگر تم چاہو تو صبر کرو تو وہ تمہارے لئے بہتر ہے ۔‘‘ اس نے عرض کیا ، آپ اللہ سے دعا فرمائیں ، آپ ﷺ نے اسے حکم فرمایا کہ خوب اچھی طرح وضو کرے اور ان الفاظ کے ساتھ دعا کرے :’’ اے اللہ ! میں تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں اور تیرے نبی ، نبی رحمت محمد ﷺ کے ذریعے تیری طرف متوجہ ہوتا ہوں ، بے شک میں نے آپ ﷺ کے ذریعے اپنے رب کی طرف توجہ کی تاکہ میری اس حاجت کے بارے میں میرے حق میں فیصلہ کیا جائے ، اے اللہ ! میرے بارے میں آپ ﷺ کی شفاعت قبول فرما ۔‘‘ ترمذی ۔ اور انہوں نے فرمایا : یہ حدیث حسن صحیح غریب ہے ۔ اسنادہ صحیح ، رواہ الترمذی ۔
Usman bin Hanif bayan karte hain, ek nabeena shakhs Nabi ki khidmat mein hazir hua to usne arz kiya, Allah se dua karen keh woh mujhe afiyat ata farmaye, Aap ne farmaya '' Agar tum chaho to main dua karta hun aur agar tum chaho to sabar karo to woh tumhare liye behtar hai .'' Usne arz kiya, Aap Allah se dua farmaen, Aap ne usay hukum farmaya keh khoob achi tarah wazu kare aur in alfaz ke sath dua kare :'' Aye Allah ! main tujh se sawal karta hun aur tere Nabi, Nabi Rehmat Muhammad ke zariye teri taraf mutawajjah hota hun, be shak maine Aap ke zariye apne Rab ki taraf tawajjuh ki takkeh meri is hajat ke bare mein mere haq mein faisla kiya jaye, Aye Allah ! mere bare mein Aap ki shifaat qubool farma .'' Tirmidhi . Aur unhon ne farmaya : yeh hadees hasan sahih gharib hai . Isnada sahih, riwayat al-Tirmidhi .
Abud Darda’ reported God's messenger as saying that part of David's supplication was that he would say, “O God, I ask Thee for Thy love, 2 the love of those who love Thee, and deeds which will cause me to attain to Thy love. O God, make Thy love dearer to me than myself, my property, my family, and than cold water." He said that when God’s messenger mentioned David and talked about him, he would say that he was most devoted of men to worship.

ابودرداء ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ داؤد ؑ کی یہ دعا تھی :’’ اے اللہ ! میں تجھ سے تیری محبت کا ، اس شخص کی محبت کا جو تجھ سے محبت کرتا ہو اور اس عمل کا سوال کرتا ہوں جو مجھے تیری محبت تک پہنچا دے ، اے اللہ ! تو اپنی محبت ، مجھے میری جان ، میرے اہل و عیال ، مال اور ٹھنڈے پانی سے زیادہ محبوب بنا دے ۔‘‘ ابودرداء ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں، جب آپ ﷺ داؤد ؑ کا ذکر کرتے تو ان کے متعلق بیان کرتے ہوئے فرماتے :’’ وہ تمام انسانوں سے زیادہ عبادت گزار تھے ۔‘‘ ترمذی ۔ اور انہوں نے فرمایا : یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے ۔ اسنادہ حسن ، رواہ الترمذی ۔
AbuDarda RA bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah SAW ne farmaya: ''Dawood AS ki ye dua thi:'' Aye Allah! Main tujhse teri muhabbat ka, uss shakhs ki muhabbat ka jo tujhse muhabbat karta ho aur uss amal ka sawal karta hun jo mujhe teri muhabbat tak pahuncha de, Aye Allah! Tu apni muhabbat, mujhe meri jaan, mere ahal o ayaal, maal aur thhande pani se zyada mahboob bana de.'' AbuDarda RA bayan karte hain, jab aap SAW Dawood AS ka zikr karte to unke mutalliq bayan karte huye farmate: ''Woh tamam insano se zyada ibadat guzaar the.'' Tirmizi. Aur unhon ne farmaya: Ye hadees hasan gharib hai. Isnaadahu hasan, Rawahul Tirmizi.
‘Ata’ b. as-Sa’ib told that his father said:‘Ammar b. Yasir led us in a prayer and did so in brief form. One of the people camplained that he had shortened the prayer and conducted it briefly, but he replied that that would cause him no harm, for he had used in it various supplica tions he had heard from God’s messenger." When he got up to depart one of the people followed him (‘Ata’ explaining that this was his father although he made a vague reference to himself) 3 and asked him about the supplication, whereupon he came and informed the people of it as follows: “O God, by Thy knowledge of the unseen and Thy power to create, grant me life as long as Thou knowest life to be best for me, and take me when Thou knowest death to be best for me; O God, I ask Thee for fear of Thee both within my secret heart and openly; I ask Thee for the word of truth in pleasure and anger; I ask Thee for moderation both in poverty and riches; I ask Thee for felicity which does not pass away; I ask Thee for comfort which is not cut off; I ask Thee for satisfaction with what is decreed; I ask Thee for a pleasant life 1 after death; I ask Thee for the pleasure of looking at Thy face, and longing to meet Thee in a state in which distress does not cause harm or testing lead astray. O God, beautify us with the adornment of faith, and make us guides who are rightly guided.”

3. The vague reference consists in his saying "one of the people."
1. Literally "coolness of life." The wordbard(coolness) develops the meaning of pleasantness.

عطا بن سائب اپنے والد سے روایت کرتے ہیں ، انہوں نے کہا : عمار بن یاسر ؓ نے ہمیں نماز پڑھائی تو اس میں اختصار کیا تو کچھ لوگوں نے انہیں کہا : آپ نے نماز میں تخفیف اور اختصار کیا ہے ؟ انہوں نے فرمایا : اس سے مجھے کوئی فرق نہیں پڑا ، میں نے اس میں کچھ دعائیں کی ہیں جو میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ سے سنی تھیں ، جب وہ (جانے کے لئے) کھڑے ہوئے تو ان لوگوں میں سے ایک آدمی ، وہ میرے والد ہی تھے لیکن انہوں نے اپنا نام چھپائے رکھا ، ان کے پیچھے پیچھے گیا اور ان سے دعا کے متعلق دریافت کیا ، پھر واپس آ کر اسے لوگوں کو بتایا :’’ اے اللہ ! اپنے علم غیب اور مخلوق پر اپنی قدرت کے ذریعے اس وقت تک زندہ رکھنا جب تک میرا زندہ رہنا تیرے علم کے مطابق میرے لئے بہتر ہو ۔ اور جب تو سمجھے کہ میرا فوت ہونا میرے لئے بہتر ہے تو مجھے فوت کر دینا ، اے اللہ ! میں غیب و حاضر میں تجھ سے کلمہ حق کا سوال کرتا ہوں ، میں فقر و غنی میں تجھ سے میانہ روی کا سوال کرتا ہوں ، میں ختم نہ ہونے والی نعمتوں کا تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں ، میں منقطع نہ ہونے والی آنکھوں کی ٹھنڈک کا تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں ، میں قضا کے بعد رضا کا تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں ، میں موت کے بعد خوشگوار زندگی کا تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں ، میں کسی شدید تکلیف اور گمراہ کن فتنے کے بغیر تیری ملاقات کے شوق اور تیرے چہرے کو دیکھنے کی لذت کا تجھ سے سوال کرتا ہوں ، اے اللہ ! زینت ایمان سے ہمیں مزین فرما اور ہمیں ہدایت پر ثابت رہنے والے ہادی بنا ۔‘‘ حسن ، رواہ النسائی ۔
Ata bin Saib apne walid se riwayat karte hain, unhon ne kaha: Ammar bin Yasir (RA) ne humain namaz parhayi to us mein ikhtisar kiya to kuch logon ne unhen kaha: Aap ne namaz mein takhfeef aur ikhtisar kiya hai? Unhon ne farmaya: Iss se mujhe koi farq nahin parha, maine is mein kuch duain ki hain jo maine Rasulullah (SAW) se suni thin, jab woh (jaane ke liye) kharay huye to un logon mein se ek aadmi, woh mere walid hi the lekin unhon ne apna naam chhupaye rakha, un ke peechhe peechhe gaya aur un se dua ke mutalliq daryaft kiya, phir wapas aa kar issay logon ko bataya: ''Aye Allah! Apne ilm ghaib aur makhlooq par apni qudrat ke zariye uss waqt tak zinda rakhna jab tak mera zinda rehna tere ilm ke mutabiq mere liye behtar ho. Aur jab tu samjhe ke mera faut hona mere liye behtar hai to mujhe faut kar dena, Aye Allah! Main ghaib o hazir mein tujh se kalma haq ka sawal karta hun, main faqr o ghani mein tujh se myana rawi ka sawal karta hun, main khatam na hone wali naimaton ka tujh se sawal karta hun, main munqata na hone wali aankhon ki thandak ka tujh se sawal karta hun, main qaza ke baad raza ka tujh se sawal karta hun, main maut ke baad khushgawar zindagi ka tujh se sawal karta hun, main kisi shadid takleef aur gumrah kun fitne ke baghair teri mulaqat ke shauq aur tere chehre ko dekhne ki lazzat ka tujh se sawal karta hun, Aye Allah! Zeenat imaan se humain mazeen farma aur humain hidayat par sabit rehne wale hadi bana.'' Hasan, Riwayatul Nisai.
Umm Salama said that the Prophet used to say after the dawn prayer, “O God, I ask Thee for beneficial knowledge, acceptable action, and good provision.”
Ahmad, Ibn Majah and Baihaqi, in [Kitab]ad- Da'awat al-kabir, transmitted it.

ام سلمہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی ﷺ فجر کی نماز کے بعد یہ دعا کیا کرتے تھے :’’ اے اللہ ! میں تجھ سے نفع بخش علم ، مقبول عمل اور حلال رزق کا سوال کرتا ہوں ۔‘‘ صحیح ، رواہ احمد و ابن ماجہ و البیھقی ۔
Umme Salma RA se riwayat hai ke Nabi SAW fajar ki namaz ke baad ye dua kiya karte thy: Aye Allah! mein tujhse nafae bakhsh ilm, maqbool amal aur halal rizq ka sawal karta hun. Sahih, Riwayat Ahmad o Ibn Maja o Baihaqi.
Abu Huraira said that a supplication he had learned from God’s messenger and which he would never give up was, “O God, make me thank Thee greatly, keep Thee in my memory often, follow Thy counsel, and keep Thy injunction.”

ابوہریرہ ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ سے ایک دعا یاد کی جسے میں چھوڑتا نہیں :’’ اے اللہ ! مجھے ایسا بنا دے کہ میں تیرا بہت زیادہ شکر کروں ، تیرا بہت زیادہ ذکر کروں ، تیری نصیحت کی بہت اتباع کروں اور تیرے احکام کو بہت زیادہ یاد کروں ۔‘‘ صحیح ، رواہ الترمذی ۔
Abu Hurairah bayan karte hain, main ne Rasool Allah se ek dua yaad ki jise main chorta nahin: 'Ae Allah! mujhe aisa bana de ke main tera bahut zyada shukar karoon, tera bahut zyada zikar karoon, teri nasihat ki bahut ittaba karoon aur tere ahkam ko bahut zyada yaad karoon.' Sahih, Riwayat al-Tirmidhi.
‘Abdallah b. 'Amr told that God’s messenger used to say, “O God, I ask Thee for health, continence, integrity, a good character, and acceptance of what is decreed.”

عبداللہ بن عمرو ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ دعا کرتے تھے :’’ اے اللہ ! میں تجھ سے صحت ، عفت ، امانت ، حسن اخلاق اور تقدیر پر راضی رہنے کا سوال کرتا ہوں ۔‘‘ اسنادہ ضعیف ، رواہ البیھقی ۔
Abdulalh bin Amr RA bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah SAW dua karte the: ''Aye Allah! mein tujh se sehat, iffat, amanat, husn akhlaq aur taqdeer par razi rehne ka sawal karta hun.'' Isnadah zaeef, Rawah al-Bayhaqi.
Umm Ma'bad said she heard God’s messenger say, “O God, purify my heart from hypocrisy, my action from vain show, my tongue from falsehood and my eyes from wrongful glances, for Thou knowest the surreptitious looks of the eyes and what is concealed in the breasts.” 2
Baihaqi transmitted the two traditions in [Kitab]ad-Da'awat al-kabir.

ام معبد ؓ بیان کرتی ہیں ، میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کو یہ دعا کرتے ہوئے سنا :’’ اے اللہ ! میرے دل کو نفاق سے ، میرے عمل کو ریا سے ، میری زبان کو جھوٹ سے اور میری آنکھوں کو خیانت سے پاک کر دے ، کیونکہ تو خیانت کرنے والی آنکھوں کو جانتا ہے اور جو کچھ سینے (دل) چھپاتے ہیں (تو اسے بھی جانتا ہے ۔‘‘ امام بیہقی نے دونوں روایتیں الدعوات الکبیر میں روایت کی ہیں ۔ اسنادہ ضعیف ، رواہ البیھقی ۔
Umm Ma'bad bayan karti hain, main ne Rasul Allah ko ye dua karte huye suna: "Aye Allah! Mere dil ko nifaq se, mere amal ko riya se, meri zuban ko jhoot se aur meri aankhon ko khianat se pak kar de, kyunki tu khianat karne wali aankhon ko janta hai aur jo kuchh seene (dil) chhupate hain (tu use bhi janta hai." Imam Bayhaqi ne donon riwayaten Al-Da'watul Kabir mein riwayat ki hain. Asnada zaeef, Rawah al-Bayhaqi.
Anas told of God’s messenger visiting a Muslim who had become as weak as a chicken and asking him whether he had been accustomed to make any supplication to God or ask Him for anything. On his replying that he had, for he was accustomed to say, "O God, what Thou meanest to punish me with in the next world inflict on me beforehand in this world," God’s messenger said, “Glory be to God! You are not capable of it or able to endure it.” He then asked why he had not said, "O God bring us blessing in this world, blessing in the next, and guard us from the punishment of hell." [Anas] said:The man used it in supplication to God, and God healed him.
Muslim transmitted it.

انس ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ایک مسلمان شخص کی عیادت کی ، وہ پرندے کے بچے کی طرح کمزور ہو چکا تھا ، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے (اس کی یہ حالت دیکھ کر) اسے فرمایا :’’ کیا تم اللہ سے کوئی دعا یا کسی خاص چیز کا سوال کرتے ہو ؟‘‘ اس نے عرض کیا ، جی ہاں ، میں کہا کرتا تھا : اے اللہ ! تو نے جو مجھے آخرت میں سزا دینی ہے وہ تو مجھے دنیا میں دے لے ۔ تو رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ سبحان اللہ ! تم (دنیا میں) اس کی طاقت رکھتے ہو نہ تم (آخرت میں) اس کی استطاعت رکھتے ہو ، تم نے ایسے کیوں نہ کہا : اے اللہ ! ہمیں دنیا میں بھلائی عطا فرما اور آخرت میں بھلائی عطا فرما ، اور ہمیں جہنم کے عذاب سے بچا ۔‘‘ راوی بیان کرتے ہیں ، اس شخص نے ان کلمات کے ذریعے دعا کی تو اللہ نے اسے شفا عطا کر دی ۔ رواہ مسلم ۔
Anas RA se riwayat hai ki Rasul Allah SAW ne aik musalman shakhs ki ayadat ki, woh parinde ke bache ki tarah kamzor ho chuka tha, Rasul Allah SAW ne (uski yeh halat dekh kar) usse farmaya: ''Kia tum Allah se koi dua ya kisi khas cheez ka sawal karte ho?'' Usne arz kia, ji haan, main kaha karta tha: "Aye Allah! Tune jo mujhe aakhirat mein saza deni hai woh tu mujhe duniya mein de le." To Rasul Allah SAW ne farmaya: ''Subhan Allah! Tum (duniya mein) is ki taqat rakhte ho na tum (aakhirat mein) is ki istataat rakhte ho, tumne aise kyon na kaha: "Aye Allah! Humein duniya mein bhalai ata farma aur aakhirat mein bhalai ata farma, aur humein jahannam ke azab se bacha."'' Rawi bayan karte hain, us shakhs ne in kalmat ke zariye dua ki to Allah ne use shifa ata kar di. Rawah Muslim.
Hudhaifa reported God’s messenger as saying, “It is not fitting for a believer to demean himself." On being asked how he could demean himself he replied, “By exposing himself to a calamity which he has not the capacity to endure."
Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and Baihaqi, inShu'ab al-iman, transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is ahasan gharibtradition.

حذیفہ ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ کسی مومن کی شان نہیں کہ وہ اپنے آپ کو ذلیل کرے ۔‘‘ صحابہ نے عرض کیا : وہ اپنے آپ کو کیسے ذلیل کرتا ہے ؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ ایسے مصائب کو (دعا یا اعمال کے ذریعے) دعوت دیتا ہے ۔ جن کی وہ طاقت نہیں رکھتا ۔‘‘ ترمذی ، ابن ماجہ ، بیہقی فی شعب الایمان ۔ اور امام ترمذی نے فرمایا : یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے ۔ اسنادہ ضعیف ، رواہ الترمذی و ابن ماجہ و البیھقی ۔
Huzaifa bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah ne farmaya: “Kisi momin ki shan nahin ke woh apne aap ko zaleel kare.” Sahaba ne arz kiya: “Woh apne aap ko kaise zaleel karta hai?” Aap ne farmaya: “Aise masaib ko (dua ya amal ke zariye) dawat deta hai jin ki woh taqat nahin rakhta.” Tirmizi, Ibn Majah, Bayhaqi fi Shoaib al-Imaan. Aur Imam Tirmizi ne farmaya: “Yeh hadees hasan ghareeb hai.” Isnaad zaeef, riwayat al-Tirmizi wa Ibn Majah wa al-Bayhaqi.
‘Umar told that God’s messenger taught him to say, “O God, make my inner nature better than my outer, and make my outer nature good. O God, I ask Thee to give me some of the abundance Thou givest to men, in family, property and children, which neither strays nor leads astray."

عمر ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں رسول اللہ ﷺ نے مجھے دعا سکھائی تو فرمایا : کہو :’’ اے اللہ ! میرا باطن ، میرے ظاہر سے بہتر کر دے اور میرے ظاہر کو صالح بنا دے ، اے اللہ ! تو نے جو لوگوں کو اہل و مال اور اولاد دے رکھی ہے مجھے اس سے صالح عطا فرما ، جو خود گمراہ ہوں نہ گمراہ کن ۔‘‘ اسنادہ ضعیف ، رواہ الترمذی ۔
Umar RA bayan karte hain Rasool Allah SAW ne mujhe dua sikhayi to farmaya: kaho: “Aye Allah! Mera baatin mere zahir se behtar kar de aur mere zahir ko salih bana de, Aye Allah! Tu ne jo logon ko ahl o maal aur aulad de rakhi hai mujhe us se salih ata farma, jo khud gumrah hon na gumrah kun.” Isnaad zaeef, riwayat Tirmizi.
