Chapter: The people follow the Quraish and the Caliphate belongs to the Quraish

باب النَّاسُ تَبَعٌ لِقُرَيْشٍ وَالْخِلاَفَةُ فِي قُرَيْشٍ
Sahih Muslim 1818a
Abu Huraira (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said, people are subservient to the Quraish, the Muslims among them being subservient to the Muslims among them, and the disbelievers among the people being subservient to the disbelievers among them.
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”حکومت اور اقتدار کا معاملہ میں لوگ قریش کے تابع ہیں، مسلمان لوگ، مسلمان قریشیوں اور کافر لوگ کافر قریشیوں کے۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain, ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Hukumat aur iqtedar ka mamla mein log Quraish ke tabi hain, Musalman log, Musalman Quraishiyon aur kafir log kafir Quraishiyon ke."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ، - يَعْنِيَانِ الْحِزَامِيَّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، كِلاَهُمَا عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَفِي حَدِيثِ زُهَيْرٍ يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم . وَقَالَ عَمْرٌو رِوَايَةً " النَّاسُ تَبَعٌ لِقُرَيْشٍ فِي هَذَا الشَّأْنِ مُسْلِمُهُمْ لِمُسْلِمِهِمْ وَكَافِرُهُمْ لِكَافِرِهِمْ " .

Hammam bin Munabbih reported that this is one of the traditions narrated by Abu Huraira (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) from the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) who said, people are subservient to the Quraish, the Muslims among them being subservient to the Muslims among them, and the disbelievers among them being subservient to the disbelievers among them.
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ نے جو احادیث ہمام بن منبہ کو سنائیں، ان میں سے ایک یہ ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”لوگ خلافت و امارت کے معاملہ میں قریش کے تابع ہیں، مسلمان، قریش مسلمانوں کے تابع ہیں اور کافر لوگ، ان کے کافروں کے تابع رہے ہیں۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Razi Allahu Anhu) ne jo ahadith Hammam bin Munabbah ko sunayin, un mein se ek yeh hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Log khilafat o imarat ke mamla mein Quraish ke tabi hain, Musalman, Quraish Musalmanon ke tabi hain aur kafir log, unke kafiron ke tabi rahe hain."
وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، قَالَ هَذَا مَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَذَكَرَ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْهَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " النَّاسُ تَبَعٌ لِقُرَيْشٍ فِي هَذَا الشَّأْنِ مُسْلِمُهُمْ تَبَعٌ لِمُسْلِمِهِمْ وَكَافِرُهُمْ تَبَعٌ لِكَافِرِهِمْ " .
Sahih Muslim 1819
Jabir bin Abdullah (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said, people are the followers of Quraish in good as well as evil (Islamic as well as pre-Islamic times).
حضرت جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”لوگ (عرب) خیر و شر میں قریش کے تابع ہیں۔“
Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (Razi Allahu Anhum) bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Log (Arab) khair o shar mein Quraish ke tabi hain."
وَحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْحَارِثِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم " النَّاسُ تَبَعٌ لِقُرَيْشٍ فِي الْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ " .
Sahih Muslim 1820
Abdullah (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said, the Caliphate will remain among the Quraish even if only two persons are left (on the earth).
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اس خلافت و امارت کے اہل قریش ہی رہیں گے، خواہ وہ لوگوں میں صرف دو ہی رہ جائیں۔“
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Razi Allahu Anhum) bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Is khilafat o imarat ke ahle Quraish hi rahenge, khwah woh logon mein sirf do hi reh jayen."
Jabir bin Samura (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that he joined the company of the Prophet (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) with his father and heard him say, this Caliphate will not end until there have been twelve Caliphs among them. The narrator said, then the Prophet (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said something that I could not follow. I said to my father: What did he say? He said, he has said, all of them will be from the Quraish.
It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir b. Samura who said:
I joined the company of the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) with my father and I heard him say: This Caliphate will not end until there have been twelve Caliphs among them. The narrator said: Then he (the Holy Prophet) said something that I could not follow. I said to my father: What did he say? He said: He has said: All of them will be from the Quraish.
It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir b. Samura who said: I joined the company of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) with my father and I heard him say: This Caliphate will not end until there have been twelve Caliphs among them. The narrator said: Then he (the Holy Prophet) said something that I could not follow. I said to my father: What did he say? He said: He has said: All of them will be from the Quraish.
Jabir bin Samura (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) say, the affairs of the people will continue to be conducted (well) as long as they are governed by twelve men. Then the Prophet (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said words which were obscure to me. I asked my father, what did the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) say? He said, all of the (twelve men) will be from the Quraish.
حضرت جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا: ”لوگوں کا معاملہ درست نہج پر رہے گا، جب تک بارہ آدمی حکمران رہیں گے۔“ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک بات آہستہ سے کہی، مجھ سے مخفی رہی، تو میں نے اپنے باپ سے پوچھا، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کیا فرمایا؟ اس نے کہا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سب قریشی ہوں گے۔“
Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain, maine Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko yeh farmate hue suna: "Logon ka mamla durust nahaj par rahega, jab tak barah aadmi hukmaran rahenge." Phir Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne ek baat aahista se kahi, mujh se makhfi rahi, to maine apne baap se poocha, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne kya farmaya? Usne kaha, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Sab Quraishi honge."
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " لاَ يَزَالُ أَمْرُ النَّاسِ مَاضِيًا مَا وَلِيَهُمُ اثْنَا عَشَرَ رَجُلاً " . ثُمَّ تَكَلَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِكَلِمَةٍ خَفِيَتْ عَلَىَّ فَسَأَلْتُ أَبِي مَاذَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ " كُلُّهُمْ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ " .
Sahih Muslim 1821c
This Hadith has been narrated on the authority of Jabir bin Samura (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) through another chain of transmitters.
امام صاحب یہی روایت ایک اور استاد سے بیان کرتے ہیں اور اس میں یہ نہیں ہے، ”لوگوں کا معاملہ صحیح نہج پر جاری رہے گا۔“
Imam Sahab yahi riwayat ek aur ustad se bayan karte hain aur is mein yeh nahi hai, "Logon ka mamla sahih nahaj par jari rahega."
وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ " لاَ يَزَالُ أَمْرُ النَّاسِ مَاضِيًا " .

Jabir bin Samura (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that he heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) say, Islam will continue to be triumphant until there have been twelve Caliphs. Then the Prophet (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said something which I could not understand. I asked my father, what did he say? He said, he said that all of them will be from the Quraish.
حضرت جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا: ”اسلام غالب رہے گا، جب تک بارہ خلیفہ رہیں گے۔“ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک بات فرمائی جو میں سمجھ نہ سکا، تو میں نے اپنے والد سے پوچھا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کیا فرمایا؟ انہوں نے جواب دیا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سب قریشی ہوں گے۔“
Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain ke maine Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko yeh farmate hue suna: "Islam ghalib rahega, jab tak barah khalifa rahenge." Phir Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne ek baat farmai jo main samajh na saka, to maine apne walid se poocha, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne kya farmaya? Unhon ne jawab diya, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Sab Quraishi honge."
Jabir bin Samura (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Prophet (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) said, this order will continue to be dominant until there have been twelve Caliphs. The narrator says, then he said something which I could not understand, and I said to my father, what did he say? My father told he said that all of them would be from the Quraish.
حضرت جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”خلافت کا معاملہ یا دین غالب رہے گا، یہاں تک کہ بارہ خلیفہ ہو جائیں گے۔“ پھر آپ نے کوئی بات کہی، جو میں سمجھ نہ سکا، تو میں نے اپنے باپ سے پوچھا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کیا فرمایا؟ اس نے جواب دیا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سب قریش سے ہوں گے۔“
Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (Razi Allahu Anhum) bayan karte hain ke Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Khilafat ka mamla ya deen ghalib rahega, yahan tak ke barah khalifa ho jayenge." Phir Aap ne koi baat kahi, jo main samajh na saka, to maine apne baap se poocha, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne kya farmaya? Usne jawab diya, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Sab Quraish se honge."
Jabir bin Samura (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated, ‘I went with my father to the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) and I heard him say, this religion would continue to remain powerful and dominant until there have been twelve Caliphs. Then he added something which I couldn't catch on account of the noise of the people. I asked my father, what did he say? My father said, he said that all of them will be from the Quraish.
حضرت جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں، میں اپنے باپ کے ساتھ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا، تو میں نے آپ کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا، ”یہ دین غالب اور محفوظ رہے گا، یہاں تک کہ بارہ خلیفہ ہو جائیں گے۔“ اور آپ نے ایک بات کہی، جو لوگوں (کے شور) نے مجھے سننے نہیں دی، تو میں نے اپنے باپ سے پوچھا، آپ نے کیا فرمایا؟ اس نے کہا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سب قریش میں سے ہوں گے۔“
Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (Razi Allahu Anhum) bayan karte hain, main apne baap ke saath Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki khidmat mein haazir hua, to maine Aap ko yeh farmate hue suna, "Yeh deen ghalib aur mehfooz rahega, yahan tak ke barah khalifa ho jayenge." Aur Aap ne ek baat kahi, jo logon (ke shor) ne mujhe sunne nahi di, to maine apne baap se poocha, Aap ne kya farmaya? Usne kaha, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Sab Quraish mein se honge."
Amir bin Sa'd bin Abu Waqqas narrated that he wrote (a letter) to Jabir bin Samura (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) and sent it to him through his servant Nafi', asking him to inform me of something he had heard from the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم). He wrote to me (in reply) that he heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) say on Friday evening, the day on which al-Aslami was stoned to death (for committing adultery), the Islamic religion will continue until the Hour has been established, or you have been ruled over by twelve Caliphs, all of them being from the Quraish. He also heard him say, a small force of the Muslims will capture the white palace, the police of the Persian Emperor or his descendants. I also heard him say, before the Day of Judgment there will appear several impostors. You are to guard against them. I also heard him say, when God grants wealth to any one of you, he should first spend it on himself and his family (and then give it in charity to the poor). I heard also him say, I will be your forerunner at the Cistern (expecting your arrival).
عامر بن سعد بن ابی وقاص بیان کرتے ہیں، میں نے اپنے غلام نافع کے ہاتھ، حضرت جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما کو لکھا، مجھے کوئی ایسی بات بتائیے، جو آپ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنی ہو، تو انہوں نے مجھے لکھ بھیجا، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے جمعہ کی شام جس دن آپ نے (ماعز) اسلمی کو رجم کروایا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم فرما رہے تھے، ”دین قیامت تک قائم رہے گا یا تم پر بارہ (12) خلیفے حکمران ہوں گے سب قریش سے ہوں گے۔“ اور میں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے بھی سنا، ”مسلمانوں کا ایک دستہ، کسریٰ یا آل کسریٰ کے گھر سفید محل کو فتح کرے گی۔“ اور میں نے آپ سے یہ بھی سنا: ”قیامت سے پہلے جھوٹے ہوں گے، ان سے بچ کر رہنا۔“ اور میں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا: ”جب اللہ تعالیٰ تم میں سے کسی کو مال و دولت سے نوازے، تو سب سے پہلے اسے اپنے اوپر اور اپنے گھر والوں پر خرچ کرے،“ اور میں نے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا: ”میں حوض پر پیش رو ہوں گا۔“
Aamir bin Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas bayan karte hain, maine apne ghulam Nafi ke hath, Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah (Razi Allahu Anhum) ko likha, mujhe koi aisi baat bataiye, jo Aap ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se suni ho, to unhon ne mujhe likh bheja, maine Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se Jumma ki sham jis din Aap ne (Ma'iz) Aslami ko rajm karwaya, Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) farma rahe the, "Deen Qayamat tak qayam rahega ya tum par barah (12) khalife hukmaran honge sab Quraish se honge." Aur maine Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko yeh farmate hue bhi suna, "Musalmanon ka ek dasta, Kisra ya Aal e Kisra ke ghar safed mahal ko fateh karegi." Aur maine Aap se yeh bhi suna: "Qayamat se pehle jhoote honge, unse bach kar rehna." Aur maine Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se suna: "Jab Allah Ta'ala tum mein se kisi ko maal o daulat se nawaze, to sabse pehle use apne oopar aur apne ghar walon par kharch kare," aur maine Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se suna: "Main Hauz par pesh raw hoon ga."
Ibn Samura al-Adawi reported, ‘I heard Allah's Apostle (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) say, and he then narrated (the above Hadith).
حضرت عامر بن سعد سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے ابن سمرہ عدوی رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما کی طرف پیغام بھیجا کہ ہمیں وہ حدیث سنائیں جو آپ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنی ہے، انہوں نے کہا، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے سنا ہے، آگے مذکورہ بالا حاتم کی حدیث کی طرح بیان کیا۔
Hazrat Aamir bin Saad se riwayat hai ke unhon ne Ibn Samurah Adwi (Razi Allahu Anhum) ki taraf paigham bheja ke hamein woh hadith sunayen jo Aap ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se suni hai, unhon ne kaha, maine Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko yeh farmate suna hai, aage mazkoora bala Hatim ki hadith ki tarah bayan kiya.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنْ مُهَاجِرِ، بْنِ مِسْمَارٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّهُ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى ابْنِ سَمُرَةَ الْعَدَوِيِّ حَدِّثْنَا مَا، سَمِعْتَ مِنْ، رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ . فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ حَاتِمٍ .
