Chapter on Sending Blessings on the Prophet (peace be upon him) in Tashahhud
باب الصلاة على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في التشهد
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 2848
(2848) (a) It is narrated on the authority of Abu Mas'ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) visited Sa'd bin 'Ubada (may Allah be pleased with him), Bashir bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "Allah has commanded us to send blessings upon you, so how should we send blessings upon you?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent. We thought that it would have been better if Bashir bin Sa'd had not asked you. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Say, 'O Allah! Send Your Mercy upon Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and upon his family, as You sent Your Mercy upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him). And send Your Blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and upon his family, as You sent Your Blessings upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in all the worlds. Verily, You are Praiseworthy, the Great.' " Then he said: "And you know how to send salutations."
(b) Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) also narrated this hadith in his Sahih, but it also includes the words "Kama barakta 'ala Ibrahim" (as You blessed Ibrahim).

(٢٨٤٨) (ا) ابومسعود انصاری (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ سعد بن عبادہ (رض) کے ہاں رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) تشریف لائے تو بشیر بن سعد (رض) نے آپ سے عرض کیا کہ اللہ نے ہمیں آپ پر درود پڑھنے کا حکم دیا ہے تو ہم کیسے آپ پر درود پڑھیں ؟ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) خاموش ہوگئے ہم نے سوچا کہ بشیر بن سعد آپ سے نہ ہی سوال کرتے تو اچھا ہوتا۔ پھر رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : کہو اللہم صل علی ۔۔۔ ” اے اللہ ! محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر رحمت بھیج اور ان کی آل پر جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) پر اپنی رحمت نازل فرمائی اور محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر برکتوں کا نزول فرما اور ان کی آل پر رحمت بھیج جس طرح تو نے تمام جہانوں میں ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) پر برکتیں نازل کی ہیں۔ بیشک تو تعریفوں والا بزرگی والا ہے۔ “ پھر فرمایا : ” اور سلام تو تم جانتے ہو۔ “
(ب) امام مسلم (رح) نے اپنی صحیح میں بھی یہ روایت نقل کی ہے مگر اس میں کما بارکت علی ابراہیم کے الفاظ بھی ہیں۔
(2848) (a) abumasood ansari (rz) se riwayat hai ki saad bin ubaada (rz) ke han rasool allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) tashreef laaye to bashir bin saad (rz) ne aap se arz kiya ki allah ne hamen aap par durood parhne ka hukum diya hai to hum kaise aap par durood parhen? rasool allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) khamosh hogaye humne socha ki bashir bin saad aap se na hi sawal karte to achha hota. phir rasool allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: kaho allahumma salli ala... "aye allah! muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par rehmat bhej aur un ki aal par jis tarah tu ne ibrahim (alaihis salam) par apni rehmat nazil farmai aur muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par barkaton ka nuzool farma aur un ki aal par rehmat bhej jis tarah tu ne tamam jahano mein ibrahim (alaihis salam) par barkaten nazil ki hain. beshak tu taarifon wala buzrgi wala hai." phir farmaya: "aur salaam to tum jante ho."
(b) imam muslim (rh) ne apni sahih mein bhi ye riwayat naqal ki hai magar is mein kama barakta ala ibrahim ke alfaz bhi hain.
Abu Mas'ud 'Uqbah bin 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and a man came and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), then he said: O Messenger of Allah! We know Salam (greetings of peace), but how should we send blessings upon you (Durood) in our prayer? May Allah shower His mercy upon you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent until we wished that he had not asked this question. Then you (the Prophet) said: "When you send blessings upon me (during prayer), then say: 'O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad… O Allah! Send Your mercy upon Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who is Your unlettered Prophet, and send Your mercy upon his family, just as You sent Your mercy upon Ibrahim (Abraham) and the family of Ibrahim. And send Your blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Your unlettered Prophet, and upon his family, just as You sent Your blessings upon Ibrahim (Abraham) and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Majestic.'" Abu 'Abdullah (Al-Bukhari) said that this is a Sahih (authentic) Hadith regarding sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in prayers.

(٢٨٤٩) ابو مسعود عقبہ بن عامر (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ ہم رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس بیٹھے ہوئے تھے، ایک آدمی آیا اور رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے سامنے آکر بیٹھ گیا ، پھر عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! سلام تو ہمیں معلوم ہے لیکن ہم آپ پر اپنی نماز میں درود کیسے بھیجیں ؟ اللہ آپ پر اپنی رحمتیں نازل کرے، رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) خاموش ہوگئے حتیٰ کہ ہم نے چاہا کہ کاش وہ سوال ہی نہ کرتا، پھر آپ نے فرمایا : جب تم (دوران نماز) مجھ پر درود بھیجو تو پڑھو ” اللہم صل علی۔۔۔ اے اللہ ! محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر جو کہ نبی امی ہیں رحمت بھیج اور آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی آل پر بھی رحمت نازل فرما، جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) اور آل ابراہیم پر رحمت نازل کی اور محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نبی امی پر برکت نازل فرما اور ان کی آل پر بھی رحمتیں اور برکتیں نازل فرما جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) پر اور آلِ ابراہیم پر برکات نازل کیں، بیشک تو تعریفوں کے لائق اور بزرگی والا ہے۔
ابوعبداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ یہ صحیح حدیث نمازوں میں نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر درود کے بارے میں ہے۔
(2849) Abu Masud Uqba bin Aamir (Raz) farmate hain ke hum Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke paas baithe hue the, ek aadmi aaya aur Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke samne aakar baith gaya, phir arz kiya: Aye Allah ke Rasul! Salam to humain maloom hai lekin hum aap par apni namaz mein durood kaise bhejen? Allah aap par apni rehmatein nazil kare, Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) khamosh hogaye hatta ke humne chaha ke kash wo sawal hi na karta, phir aap ne farmaya: Jab tum (duran namaz) mujh par durood bhejo to parho "Allahumma Salli Ala... Aye Allah! Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par jo ke Nabi Ummi hain rehmat bhej aur aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ki Aal par bhi rehmat nazil farma, jis tarah tune Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) aur Aal Ibrahim par rehmat nazil ki aur Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) Nabi Ummi par barkat nazil farma aur unki Aal par bhi rehmatein aur barkatein nazil farma jis tarah tune Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) par aur Aal Ibrahim par barkat nazil keen, beshak tu tarifon ke layeq aur buzurgi wala hai. Abu Abdullah kahte hain ke ye sahih hadees namaazon mein Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par durood ke baare mein hai.
(2851) (a) 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Laila reported: Ka'b bin 'Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) met me and said: "Should I not give you a gift?" He then said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) visited us, and we said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we have learned how to send greetings of peace upon you. Now tell us how to invoke blessings upon you.' He (ﷺ) said: 'Say: "O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad… O Allah, have mercy upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You had mercy upon Ibrahim. Verily, You are Praiseworthy, Full of Glory. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim. Verily, You are Praiseworthy, Full of Glory."'
(b) In Bukhari, the words "Kama barakta 'ala Ibrahim" (as You blessed Ibrahim) are also mentioned.
(c) The words of the hadith, "Qad 'alimna kaifa nuslim 'alaik" (We have learned how to send greetings of peace upon you), indicate the sending of salutations upon the Prophet (ﷺ) in the Tashahhud (final sitting in prayer). Similarly, the words of a Companion, "Fakifa nasallu 'alaik" (So how should we invoke blessings upon you?), also pertain to inquiring about the invocation of blessings in the Tashahhud.

(٢٨٥١) (ا) عبدالرحمن بن ابی لیلی فرماتے ہیں کہ کعب بن عجرہ (رض) مجھے ملے اور فرمایا : کیا میں تجھے کوئی تحفہ نہ دوں ؟ پھر فرمایا : رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ہمارے پاس تشریف لائے تو ہم نے ان سے عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! ہمیں معلوم ہوچکا ہے کہ آپ پر سلام کس طرح بھیجیں پر ہمیں یہ بتا دیجیے کہ آپ پر درو کس طرح پڑھیں ؟ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : کہو : ” اللہم صل علی۔۔۔ ” اے اللہ ! محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر اور آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی آل پر رحمت بھیج جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) پر رحمت بھیجی، بیشک تو تعریفوں والا اور بزرگی والا ہے۔ اے اللہ ! محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر برکتیں نازل فرما اور آلِ محمد پر بھی، جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) پر برکتیں نازل کی۔ بیشک تو قابل تعریف، بزرگی والا ہے۔ “
(ب) بخاری میں کما بارکت علی ابراہیم کے الفاظ بھی ہیں۔
(ج) حدیث کے الفاظ قد علمنا کیف نسلم علیک میں تشہد میں نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر سلام بھیجنے کی طرف اشارہ ہے اور اسی طرح ایک صحابی کے قول فکیف نصل علیک میں بھی تشہد میں درود کے بارے میں سوال تھا۔
(2851) (a) Abdulrahman bin Abi Laila farmate hain ki Ka'b bin Ajra (RA) mujhe mile aur farmaya: kya main tujhe koi tohfa na dun? Phir farmaya: Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) hamare pas tashrif laye to hum ne un se arz kiya: aye Allah ke Rasul! humain maloom ho chuka hai ki aap par salam kis tarah bhejen par humain ye bata dijiye ki aap par durood kis tarah parhen? Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: kaho: "Allahumma salli ala..." aye Allah! Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par aur aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ki aal par rehmat bhej jis tarah tu ne Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) par rehmat bheji, beshak tu tarifon wala aur buzrgi wala hai. Aye Allah! Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par barkaten nazil farma aur Aal-e-Muhammad par bhi, jis tarah tu ne Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) par barkaten nazil ki. Beshak tu qaabile tarif, buzrgi wala hai.
(b) Bukhari mein kama barakta ala Ibrahim ke alfaz bhi hain.
(c) Hadees ke alfaz qad alimna kaifa nuslim alaik mein tashahhud mein Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par salam bhej ne ki taraf ishara hai aur isi tarah ek sahabi ke qaul fakeef nus salli alaik mein bhi tashahhud mein durood ke bare mein sawal tha.
(2852) It is narrated from Ka'b bin 'Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say in prayer: "O Allah, send Your mercy upon Muhammad... O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Abraham and the family of Abraham. And send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Abraham and the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, the Majestic."

(٢٨٥٢) کعب بن عجرہ (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نماز میں پڑھا کرتے تھے :” اللہم صل علی محمد۔۔۔ ” اے اللہ ! حضرت محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر اپنی رحمت نازل فرما اور آل محمد پر بھی، جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) اور آل ابراہیم پر رحمت اتاری اور برکت نازل فرما محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر اور آپ کی آل پر جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) اور آل ابراہیم پر برکت اتاری، بیشک تو تعریفوں والا بزرگی والا ہے۔ “
2852 kab bin ajra (RA) se riwayat hai keh aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) namaz mein parha karte thay “Allahumma Salli Ala Muhammad..” aye Allah! Hazrat Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) per apni rehmat nazil farma aur aal Muhammad per bhi, jis tarah tu ne Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) aur aal Ibrahim per rehmat utari aur barkat nazil farma Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) per aur aap ki aal per jis tarah tu ne Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) aur aal Ibrahim per barkat utari, beshak tu taarifon wala buzрги wala hai.
Narrated Abu Sa'id: We said, "O Messenger of Allah! We know how to greet you (with Salam), but how to invoke blessings on you?" He (ﷺ) said, "Say: 'O Allah! Send Your Mercy on Muhammad (ﷺ), Your slave and Messenger, as You sent Your Mercy on Ibrahim (Abraham), and send blessings on Muhammad (ﷺ) as You sent blessings on Ibrahim (Abraham).'"

(٢٨٥٣) سیدنا ابو سعید فرماتے ہیں کہ ہم نے عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! سلام ہمیں معلوم ہے لیکن ہم آپ پر درود کیسے بھیجیں ؟ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : کہو : ” اے اللہ ! محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر رحمت بھیج جو تیرے بندے اور رسول ہیں، جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) پر رحمت اتاری اور محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر برکت نازل کر جس طرح تو نے ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) پر برکت اتاری۔ “
2853 Sayyidina Abu Saeed farmate hain ki hum ne arz kiya: Aye Allah ke Rasool! Salam humein maloom hai lekin hum aap par durood kaise bhejein? Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: Kaho: “Aye Allah! Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par rehmat bhej jo tere bande aur Rasool hain, jis tarah tu ne Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) par rehmat utari aur Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par barkat nazil kar jis tarah tu ne Ibrahim (Alaihissalam) par barkat utari.”
Fadala bin 'Ubaid Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw a man who did not glorify Allah, nor did he send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), but began his prayer directly. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "He has hastened!" Then he called him and said to him, or to someone else, "When any one of you prays, let him begin by glorifying and praising Allah, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and after that let him supplicate for whatever he wishes."

(٢٨٥٤) فضالہ بن عبید انصاری (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ایک شخص کو دیکھا، اس نے نہ اللہ کی عظمت بیان کی نہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر درود بھیجا اور سلام پھیرلیا۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : اس نے جلدی کی ہے ، پھر اسے بلایا اور اسے یا کسی اور سے فرمایا : تم میں سے جب کوئی شخص نماز پڑھے تو پہلے اللہ تعالیٰ کی عظمت و بڑائی بیان کرے ، پھر نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر درود پڑھے، پھر اس کے بعد جو چاہے دعا کرے۔
Fazalah bin Ubaid Ansari (RA) farmate hain ki Rasul Allah (SAW) ne ek shakhs ko dekha, usne na Allah ki azmat bayan ki na Nabi (SAW) par durood bhi bheja aur salam pher liya. Aap (SAW) ne farmaya: usne jaldi ki hai, phir use bulaya aur use ya kisi aur se farmaya: tum mein se jab koi shakhs namaz parhe to pehle Allah ta'ala ki azmat o barai bayan kare, phir Nabi (SAW) par durood parhe, phir uske baad jo chahe dua kare.
Abdullah bin Masud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that in the early days of Islam, when we would sit after two rak'ahs (units of prayer), we would glorify Allah, say Allahu Akbar, and engage in His remembrance, not knowing any specific supplication. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) possessed the best of words. He turned towards us and said, "When you sit after two rak'ahs, say: 'All verbal, physical, and financial acts of worship are for Allah alone. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.'" Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) further said that when a person says, "Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah," this greeting of peace reaches every righteous servant - or he said: every Messenger - then he should begin by praising Allah and extolling Him as He deserves. Then, he should send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and thereafter supplicate Allah for whatever he desires.

(٢٨٥٥) عبداللہ بن مسعود (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ شروع میں ہم دو رکعتوں کے درمیان بیٹھتے تھے تو معلوم نہ ہونے کی وجہ سے تسبیح و تکبیر پڑھتے تھے اور اللہ کا ذکر کرتے۔ بیشک رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) بہترین کلمات جانتے تھے۔ آپ ہماری طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور فرمایا : جب تم دو رکعتوں کے درمیان بیٹھو تو کہو ” تمام قولی، فعلی اور مالی عبادتیں اللہ ہی کے لیے ہیں، اے نبی ! آپ پر سلام ہو اور اللہ کی رحمت اور اس کی برکتیں ہوں۔ ہم پر اور اللہ کے نیک بندوں پر سلامتی ہو، میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں اور میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اللہ کے بندے اور اس کے رسول ہیں۔ “ عبداللہ (رض) کہتے ہیں کہ آدمی جب ” السلام علینا وعلی عباد اللّٰہ الصالحین “ کہتا ہے تو ہر نیک بندے کو یا فرمایا : ہر نبیٔ مرسل کو وہ سلام پہنچ جاتا ہے، پھر اللہ کی ثنا کے ساتھ ابتدا کرے اور اللہ کی مدح و تعریف کرے جس کا وہ اہل ہے۔ پھر نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) پر درود بھیجے، پھر اللہ سے اس کے بعد مانگے جو چاہے۔
(2855) Abdullah bin Masood (Razi Allah Anhu) farmate hain ki shuru mein hum do rakaton ke darmiyan baithte thay to maloom na hone ki waja se tasbeeh o takbeer parhte thay aur Allah ka zikr karte. Beshak Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) behtarin kalmat jante thay. Aap hamari taraf mutawajjah huye aur farmaya: Jab tum do rakaton ke darmiyan baitho to kaho "Tamam qauli, feli aur mali ibadaten Allah hi ke liye hain, Aye Nabi! Aap par salam ho aur Allah ki rehmat aur uski barkaten hon. Hum par aur Allah ke naik bandon par salamati ho, main gawahi deta hun ki Allah ke siwa koi mabood nahi aur main gawahi deta hun ki Muhammad ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) Allah ke bande aur uske rasool hain." Abdullah (Razi Allah Anhu) kehte hain ki aadmi jab "Assalamu Alaina Wa Ala Ibadillahis Saliheen" kehta hai to har naik bande ko ya farmaya: Har Nabi e Mursal ko woh salam pohanch jata hai, phir Allah ki sana ke saath ibtida kare aur Allah ki madh o tareef kare jis ka woh ahl hai. Phir Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) par durood bheje, phir Allah se uske baad mange jo chahe.
