Chapter on Evidence That the Passage of a Donkey in Front of Him Does Not Invalidate the Prayer
باب الدليل على أن مرور الحمار بين يديه لا يفسد الصلاة
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 3500
Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) narrates that Ibn Abbas (RA) said that he and Fadl bin Abbas came on the day of Arafat while the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was leading the people in prayer. We came riding on our donkey and passed in front of a part of the row. Then we dismounted and left it to graze, and the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) did not say anything to us.

(٣٥٠٠) حضرت عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ ابن عباس (رض) فرمایا کہ میں اور فضل بن عباس عرفہ کے دن آئے اور رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) لوگوں کو نماز پڑھا رہے تھے اور ہم اپنی گدھی پر سوار ہو کر آئے تھے۔ ہم صف سے کچھ حصہ کے سامنے سے گزر گئے۔ پھر اس سے اتر کر اس کو چرنے کے لیے چھوڑ دیا اور رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ہمیں کچھ بھی نہیں کہا۔
3500 Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) farmate hain ki Ibn Abbas (RA) farmaya ki main aur Fazal bin Abbas Arafah ke din aaye aur Rasool Allah (SAW) logon ko namaz parha rahe thay aur hum apni gadhi par sawar ho kar aaye thay. Hum saff se kuch hissa ke samne se guzar gaye. Phir us se utar kar us ko charne ke liye chhor diya aur Rasool Allah (SAW) ne hamen kuch bhi nahin kaha.
'Abdullah bin 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he came riding a donkey and was near puberty in those days. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was leading the people in prayer in Mina. I passed in front of a part of the row, dismounted from the donkey, left it to graze, and joined the row. No one objected to me.
In the narration of Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him), it is stated that I left my donkey to graze and joined the row myself, and no one objected to me.

(٣٥٠١) حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں گدھی پر سوار ہو کر آیا اور ان دنوں میں بلوغت کے قریب تھا۔ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) منیٰ میں لوگوں کو نماز پڑھا رہے تھے۔ میں صف کے کچھ حصے کے سامنے سے گزر کر گدھی سے اترا اور گدھی کو چرنے کے لیے چھوڑ دیا اور صف میں جا کر مل گیا۔ مجھ پر کسی نے اعتراض نہیں کیا۔
امام شافعی (رح) کی روایت میں ہے کہ میں نے اپنے گدھے کو چرنے کے لیے چھوڑ دیا اور خود صف میں شامل ہوا اور مجھ پر کسی نے اعتراض نہیں کیا۔
(3501) Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) bayan karte hain keh main gadhe par sawar ho kar aaya aur in dino main bulughat ke qareeb tha. Rasool Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) Mina main logon ko namaz parha rahe the. Main saf ke kuchh hisse ke samne se guzar kar gadhe se utara aur gadhe ko charne ke liye chhor diya aur saf main ja kar mil gaya. Mujh par kisi ne aitraz nahin kiya.
Imam Shafai (RA) ki riwayat main hai keh main ne apne gadhe ko charne ke liye chhor diya aur khud saf main shamil hua aur mujh par kisi ne aitraz nahin kiya.
(3502) (a) A similar narration has been reported from another chain, but in it, the phrase is "bayna yaday as-saff" (in front of the row) and the word "ba'd" (some) is not mentioned. And it is stated that no one objected to me [the Prophet (PBUH)].
(b) Yunus bin Yazid has narrated this hadith from Ibn Shihab, stating that this incident took place in Mina during the Farewell Pilgrimage.
(c) Ma'mar narrated it from Ibn Shihab, saying that it happened on the day of the Farewell Pilgrimage or the Conquest of Mecca, and the saying about the Farewell Pilgrimage is more accurate.
(d) We have already mentioned the narration of Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) from the book of Muwatta' al-Manasik, that he said in this hadith: "ila ghayri jidarin" (except towards a wall).
(e) Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Without a sutrah (barrier). And Allah knows best.
(f) This indicates the error of the person who thinks that the Prophet (PBUH) prayed towards a sutrah, and that the Imam's sutrah is the sutrah of the one praying behind him. This is why the passing of the donkey did not invalidate their prayer. And the narration of Imam Malik is evidence that the Prophet (PBUH) prayed without a sutrah.

(٣٥٠٢) (ا) ایک دوسری سند سے اسی کی مثل روایت منقول ہے مگر اس میں ” بین یدی الصف “ ہے ” بعض “ کا لفظ نہیں ہے اور فرمایا کہ مجھ پر کسی نے اعتراض نہ کیا۔
(ب) یونس بن یزید نے اس حدیث کو ابن شہاب سے نقل کیا ہے کہ یہ واقعہ منیٰ میں حجۃ الوداع کے موقع پر ہوا۔
(ج) معمر ابن شہاب ; سے اس کو روایت کرتے ہیں کہ حجۃ الوداع یا فتح مکہ کے دن اور حجۃ الوداع والا قول زیادہ صحیح ہے۔
(د) مؤطا کی کتاب المناسک سے ہم امام مالک (رح) کی روایت بیان کرچکے ہیں کہ انھوں نے اس حدیث میں فرمایا : ”إِلَی غَیْرِ جِدَارٍ “ دیوار کے علاوہ کی طرف۔
(ہ) امام شافعی (رح) فرماتے ہیں : سترے کے بغیر۔ واللہ اعلم ۔
(و) یہ بات اس آدمی کی خطا پر دلالت کرتی ہے جو یہ خیال کرتا ہے کہ آپ نے سترے کی جانب نماز پڑھی اور امام کا سترہ مقتدی کا سترہ ہوتا ہے۔ اس وجہ سے گدھے کے گزرنے سے ان کی نماز نہیں ٹوٹی اور امام مالک کی روایت میں اس بات کی دلیل ہے کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے سترے کے بغیر نماز پڑھی۔
(3502) (a) Aik doosri sand se isi ki misl riwayat manqool hai magar is mein ” bain yedi al-saff “ hai ” baz “ ka lafz nahi hai aur farmaya keh mujh par kisi ne aitraz nah kia.
(b) Younus bin Yazid ne is hadees ko Ibn Shahab se naqal kia hai keh yeh waqea Mina mein Hajjat-ul-Wida ke mauqe par hua.
(c) Ma’mar Ibn Shahab se is ko riwayat karte hain keh Hajjat-ul-Wida ya Fath Makkah ke din aur Hajjat-ul-Wida wala qaul ziada sahih hai.
(d) Muwatta ki kitaab al-Manasik se hum Imam Malik (rah) ki riwayat bayan kar chuke hain keh unhon ne is hadees mein farmaya : ”Ila ghairi jidar“ deewar ke ilawa ki taraf.
(h) Imam Shafi (rah) farmate hain : satr ke baghair. Wallahu a’lam.
(w) Yeh baat is aadmi ki khata par dalalat karti hai jo yeh khayal karta hai keh aap ne satr ki taraf namaz parhayi aur imam ka satr muqtadi ka satr hota hai. Is wajah se gadhe ke guzarne se un ki namaz nahi tuti aur Imam Malik ki riwayat mein is baat ki daleel hai keh aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne satr ke baghair namaz parhayi.
Abu Sa'ba (may Allah have mercy on him) reported that we were with Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), and the people mentioned what breaks the prayer. He said: "A woman and a donkey." Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I and a boy from Banu Hashim or Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib were both riding on a donkey, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was leading the people in prayer in the prayer place. We dismounted from the donkey and left it in front of them. He did not pay any attention to it. Two girls from Banu Hashim came running and started fighting, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) grabbed them and separated them, and he did not pay any attention to it."

(٣٥٠٣) ابو صہبا (رح) بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ہم ابن عباس (رض) کے پاس تھے تو لوگوں نے ذکر کیا کہ کونسی چیز نماز توڑتی ہے ؟ تو انھوں نے فرمایا : عورت اور گدھا۔ ابن عباس (رض) نے فرمایا : میں اور بنو ہاشم یا بنو عبدالمطلب کا ایک لڑکا دونوں ایک گدھے پر بیٹھے ہوئے آئے اور رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) میدان میں لوگوں کو نماز پڑھا رہے تھے۔ ہم گدھے سے اترے اور اس کو ان کے سامنے چھوڑ دیا۔ اس کا کوئی خیال نہ رکھا۔ بنوہاشم کی دو بچیاں دوڑتی ہوئی آئیں اور لڑ پڑیں تو رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے انھیں پکڑ کر ایک دوسرے سے علیحدہ کردیا اور اس کی کوئی پروا نہ کی۔
(3503) Abu Sahaba (RA) bayan karte hain ki hum Ibn Abbas (RA) ke paas thay to logon ne zikar kiya ki konsi cheez namaz todti hai? To unhon ne farmaya: Aurat aur gadha. Ibn Abbas (RA) ne farmaya: Main aur Banu Hashim ya Banu Abdul Muttalib ka ek ladka dono ek gadhe par baithe hue aye aur Rasul Allah (SAW) maidan mein logon ko namaz parha rahe thay. Hum gadhe se utre aur usko unke samne chhor diya. Iska koi khayal na rakha. Banu Hashim ki do bachiyan daurti hui aayin aur lar parin to Rasul Allah (SAW) ne unhen pakar kar ek dusre se alag kar diya aur iski koi parwah na ki.
Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas: I and a boy from the children of Banu Hashim, both riding on a donkey, passed by the Prophet (ﷺ) while he was offering prayer. He did not interrupt his prayer because of us. Two girls from Banu Abdul Muttalib came and caught hold of the knees of the Prophet (ﷺ) and he made peace between them and separated them, but he did not interrupt his prayer because of that.

(٣٥٠٤) حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ میں اور بنو ہاشم کا ایک بچہ دونوں گدھے پر سوار ہو کر آئے اور رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے سامنے سے گزرے اور آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نماز پڑھ رہے تھے ۔ آپ نے اس وجہ سے نماز نہیں توڑی۔ بنو عبدالمطلب کی دو بچیاں آئیں اور انھوں نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے گھٹنوں کو پکڑ لیا اور آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ان دونوں کے درمیان صلح کروا دی اور انھیں علیحدہ کردیا، لیکن اس وجہ سے نماز نہیں توڑی۔
3504 Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) se riwayat hai ki main aur Banu Hashim ka ek baccha donon gadhe par sawar ho kar aaye aur Rasool Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke samne se guzre aur aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) namaz parh rahe the. Aap ne is wajah se namaz nahin tori. Banu Abdul Muttalib ki do bachiyan aayin aur unhon ne Rasool Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke ghutnon ko pakad liya aur aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne un donon ke darmiyan sulah karwai aur unhen alag kar diya, lekin is wajah se namaz nahin tori.
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: I and a boy from the tribe of `Abdul Muttalib came riding on a donkey and the Prophet (ﷺ) was leading the people in prayer. We left the donkey and joined the prayer. (Later) two girls from Banu `Abdul Muttalib came running and the Prophet (ﷺ) made peace between them but he did not interrupt his prayer because of that. And a kid of sheep passed in front of him (ﷺ) but he did not interrupt his prayer because of that.

(٣٥٠٥) سیدنا ابن عباس (رض) فرماتے ہیں : میں اور بنو عبدالمطلب کا ایک لڑکا گدھے پر سوار ہو کر آئے اور رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نماز پڑھا رہے تھے۔ ہم نے گدھے کو چھوڑا اور نماز میں شامل ہوگئے۔ بنو عبدالمطلب کی دو بچیاں دوڑتی ہوئی آئیں تو رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ان کے درمیان صلح کروا دی۔ لیکن اس سے آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے نماز نہ توڑی اور آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے سامنے سے مینڈھے کا بچہ گزرنے لگا تو بھی آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے نماز نہ توڑی۔
3505 Saidna Ibn Abbas (RA) farmate hain : mein aur Banu Abd al-Muttalib ka ek ladka gadhe par sawar ho kar aaye aur Rasul Allah (SAW) namaz parha rahe the. Hum ne gadhe ko chhoda aur namaz mein shamil hogaye. Banu Abd al-Muttalib ki do bachiyan daurti hui aayin to Rasul Allah (SAW) ne un ke darmiyan sulh karwa di. Lekin is se aap (SAW) ne namaz na tori aur aap (SAW) ke samne se mendhe ka bachcha guzarne laga to bhi aap (SAW) ne namaz na tori.
Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led the people in prayer. A donkey passed in front of him, so 'Ayyash bin Abi Rabiah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Glory be to Allah, Glory be to Allah!" When Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished the prayer with Taslim, he said: "Who was just saying 'Glory be to Allah'?" 'Ayyash (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It was me, O Messenger of Allah! I heard that (passing of) a donkey in front (of a praying person) invalidates the prayer." He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Nothing invalidates the prayer," meaning that the prayer is not invalidated by passing in front of anything.

(٣٥٠٦) حضرت انس بن مالک (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے لوگوں کو نماز پڑھائی۔ آپ کے آگے سے ایک گدھا گزرا تو عیاش بن ابی ربیعہ (رض) نے کہا : سبحان اللہ، سبحان اللہ ! جب رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے نماز سے سلام پھیرا تو فرمایا : ابھی ابھی سبحان اللہ کس نے پڑھا ؟ عیاش (رض) نے کہا : میں نے اے اللہ کے رسول ! میں نے سنا تھا کہ گدھا (آگے سے گزر کر) نماز توڑ دیتا ہے۔ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : نماز کو کوئی چیز نہیں توڑتی، یعنی کسی بھی چیز کے آگے سے گزرنے سے نماز فاسد نہیں ہوتی۔
(3506) Hazrat Anas bin Malik (RA) farmate hain ke Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne logon ko namaz parhayi. Aap ke aage se ek gadha guzra to Ayash bin Abi Rabia (RA) ne kaha: Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah! Jab Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne namaz se salam phera to farmaya: Abhi abhi Subhan Allah kisne padha? Ayash (RA) ne kaha: Maine aye Allah ke Rasul! Maine suna tha ke gadha (aage se guzar kar) namaz tod deta hai. Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: Namaz ko koi cheez nahi torti, yani kisi bhi cheez ke aage se guzarne se namaz fasid nahi hoti.
Salim narrates that someone said to Ibn Umar that Abdullah bin 'Ayash bin Rabee' said: "A dog and a donkey invalidate the prayer." So Ibn Umar said: "Nothing breaks the prayer of a Muslim man."

(٣٥٠٧) سالم (رح) بیان کرتے ہیں کہ کسی نے حضرت ابن عمر (رض) سے کہا کہ حضرت عبداللہ بن عیاش بن ربیع (رض) فرماتے ہیں : کتا اور گدھا نماز توڑ دیتے ہیں تو ابن عمر (رض) نے کہا : مسلمان آدمی کی نماز کو کوئی چیز نہیں توڑتی۔
(3507) Salem (RA) bayan karte hain ke kisi ne Hazrat Ibn Umar (RA) se kaha ke Hazrat Abdullah bin Ayyash bin Rabee (RA) farmate hain : kutta aur gadha namaz tod dete hain to Ibn Umar (RA) ne kaha : musalman aadmi ki namaz ko koi cheez nahin torti.
