Zahri reported that Urwa ibn Az-Zubair informed him: Aishah said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out in the heart of the night and prayed in the mosque, and the people prayed with him. In the morning, the people talked about it, and the crowd grew larger. So, the Prophet (ﷺ) came out again the second night and prayed, and they prayed with him. Again, they talked about it, and the crowd increased further. On the third night, he went out and prayed, and people prayed with him. People continued to talk about it, and the crowd grew so large that the mosque could no longer accommodate them. So, the Prophet (ﷺ) did not come out to them. The people kept waiting for the prayer, but he did not emerge until the Fajr prayer. After finishing Fajr, he faced the people, gave the post-prayer greetings, and then said, "It is not that I was unaware of your presence tonight, but I feared that the night prayer would be made obligatory upon you, and you would not be able to bear it." He used to encourage them to pray during Ramadan without obligating them, saying, "Whoever prays during the night of Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, Allah will forgive his past sins." The narrator said, "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) passed away, and the matter remained like that during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and the early part of Umar's caliphate, until Umar ibn Al-Khattab gathered them behind Ubayy ibn Ka'b. He led them in prayer during Ramadan, and that was the first time people gathered behind a single reciter in Ramadan."
زہری نے روایت کیا ہے کہ عروہ بن زبیر نے انہیں بتایا: عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ رات کے وقت نکلے اور مسجد میں نماز پڑھی اور لوگ بھی آپ کے ساتھ نماز پڑھنے لگے۔ صبح ہوئی تو لوگ اس کا ذکر کرنے لگے اور مجمع زیادہ ہو گیا۔ تو نبی ﷺ دوسری رات پھر نکلے اور نماز پڑھی اور لوگوں نے آپ کے ساتھ نماز پڑھی۔ پھر لوگ اس کا ذکر کرنے لگے اور مجمع اور بھی بڑھ گیا۔ پھر تیسری رات آپ ﷺ نکلے اور نماز پڑھی اور لوگ آپ ﷺ کے ساتھ نماز پڑھتے رہے۔ لوگ اس کا ذکر کرتے رہے اور مجمع اتنا زیادہ ہوگیا کہ مسجد میں جگہ کم پڑ گئی۔ تو نبی ﷺ ان کے پاس نہ نکلے۔ لوگ نماز کے انتظار میں بیٹھے رہے مگر آپ ﷺ فجر کی نماز تک نہ نکلے۔ جب فجر کی نماز پڑھ چکے تو لوگوں کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے، سلام پھیرنے کے بعد فرمایا "ایسا نہیں ہے کہ مجھے تمہاری موجودگی کا علم نہیں تھا، لیکن مجھے یہ خدشہ تھا کہ کہیں یہ نماز تم پر فرض نہ کر دی جائے اور تم اسے برداشت نہ کر سکو" آپ ﷺ رمضان میں لوگوں کو قیام کرنے کی ترغیب تو دیتے تھے مگر فرض نہیں کرتے تھے، اور فرماتے تھے "جو شخص رمضان کی راتوں میں ایمان اور ثواب کی نیت سے قیام کرے گا، اللہ تعالیٰ اس کے پچھلے گناہ معاف فرما دے گا" راوی کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کا انتقال ہو گیا اور یہ معاملہ ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کے زمانہ خلافت میں اور عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کی خلافت کے آغاز تک اسی طرح رہا، یہاں تک کہ عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے لوگوں کو ابی بن کعب رضی اللہ عنہ کے پیچھے جمع کیا اور انہوں نے رمضان میں لوگوں کو نماز پڑھائی اور یہ پہلا موقع تھا کہ لوگ رمضان میں ایک امام کے پیچھے جمع ہوئے۔
Zehri ne riwayat kiya hai ki Urwa bin Zubair ne unhen bataya: Ayesha radi Allahu anha ne kaha ki Rasul Allah ﷺ raat ke waqt nikle aur masjid mein namaz parhi aur log bhi aap ke sath namaz parhne lage. Subah hui to log iska zikar karne lage aur majma zyada ho gaya. To Nabi ﷺ dusri raat phir nikle aur namaz parhi aur logon ne aap ke sath namaz parhi. Phir log iska zikar karne lage aur majma aur bhi barh gaya. Phir teesri raat aap ﷺ nikle aur namaz parhi aur log aap ﷺ ke sath namaz parhte rahe. Log iska zikar karte rahe aur majma itna zyada hogaya ki masjid mein jagah kam par gai. To Nabi ﷺ unke paas na nikle. Log namaz ke intezaar mein baithe rahe magar aap ﷺ fajar ki namaz tak na nikle. Jab fajar ki namaz parh chuke to logon ki taraf mutawajjah hue, salaam phairne ke baad farmaya "Aisa nahi hai ki mujhe tumhari maujudi ka ilm nahi tha, lekin mujhe ye khadsha tha ki kahin ye namaz tum par farz na kar di jaye aur tum ise bardasht na kar sako" aap ﷺ Ramzan mein logon ko qayam karne ki targheeb to dete the magar farz nahi karte the, aur farmate the "Jo shakhs Ramzan ki raaton mein imaan aur sawab ki niyat se qayam karega, Allah ta'ala uske pichle gunah maaf farma dega" Ravi kahte hain ki Rasul Allah ﷺ ka inteqal ho gaya aur ye mamla Abu Bakar radi Allahu anhu ke zamana khilafat mein aur Umar radi Allahu anhu ki khilafat ke aaghaz tak isi tarah raha, yahan tak ki Umar bin Khattab radi Allahu anhu ne logon ko Ubay bin Ka'b radi Allahu anhu ke peeche jama kiya aur unhon ne Ramzan mein logon ko namaz parhai aur ye pehla mauqa tha ki log Ramzan mein ek imam ke peeche jama hue.
