Chapter: The obligation to fast Ramadan when the crescent is sighted, and to break the fast when the crescent is sighted, and that if it is cloudy at the beginning or end of the month, then the month should be completed as thirty days.
Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said about Ramadhan, ‘do not fast till you see the new moon, and do not break fasting till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy calculate about it (to be 30 days).
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے رمضان کا تذکرہ کیا اور فرمایا: ”روزہ نہ رکھو حتی کہ تم چاند دیکھ لو اور اسے افطار نہ کرو، حتی کہ چاند دیکھو لو۔ اور اگر مطلع ابر آلود ہو تو اس کی مدت پوری کرو۔“
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) se riwayat hai ke Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne Ramadan ka tazkirah kiya aur farmaya: "Roza na rakho hatta ke tum chand dekh lo aur isay iftar na karo, hatta ke chand dekh lo. Aur agar matla abar-alood ho toh us ki muddat poori karo."
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، - رضى الله عنهما - عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ " لاَ تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوُا الْهِلاَلَ وَلاَ تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ فَإِنْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ " .
Sahih Muslim 1080b
Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) made a mention of Ramadan and he with the gesture of his hand said, the month is thus and thus. (He then withdrew his thumb at the third time). He then said, fast when you see it, and break your fasting when you see it, and if the weather is cloudy calculate it as thirty days.
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے رمضان کا ذکر کیا۔ پھر دونوں ہاتھوں کو کھول کر اشارہ کر کے بتایا اور فرمایا: ”مہینہ اس طرح ہے مہینہ ایسے ہے اور تیسری دفعہ انگوٹھا بند کر کے فرمایا: ایسے ہے۔ لہٰذا چاند دیکھ کر روزہ رکھو اور اسے دیکھ کر روزہ رکھو اگر چاند تم سے مخفی ہو جائے تو تیس کی گنتی پوری کر لو۔“
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne Ramadan ka zikr kiya. Phir donon hathon ko khol kar isharah kar ke bataya aur farmaya: "Mahina is tarah hai mahina aise hai aur teesri dafa angootha band kar ke farmaya: aise hai. Lehaza chand dekh kar roza rakho aur isay dekh kar roza rakho agar chand tum se makhfi ho jaye toh tees ki ginti poori kar lo."
This Hadith is narrated on the authority of 'Ubaidullah with the same chain of transmitters, and he said, ‘if the sky is cloudy for you, then calculate thirty days for the month of Ramadan.
امام صاحب نے حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے عبیداللہ کی مذکورہ سند سے بیان کیا کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اگر بادل ہو جائیں تو تیس دن پورے کر لو“ جیسا کہ اوپر اسامہ کی روایت ہے۔
Imam sahab ne Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se Ubaidullah ki mazkoorah sanad se bayan kiya ke Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Agar badal ho jayein toh tees din poore kar lo" jaisa ke oopar Usama ki riwayat hai.
Ubaidullah narrated with the same chain of transmitters that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) made a mention of Ramadan and said, the month may consist of twenty-nine days, and it may be thus, thus and thus, and (he further) said, calculate it, but he did not say thirty.
امام صاحب اپنے استاد عبیداللہ بن سعید سے عبیداللہ کی مذکورہ سند ہی سے بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے رمضان کا تذکرہ کیا اور فرمایا: مہینہ انتیس کا ہوتا ہے مہینہ ایسا، ایسا، ایسا بھی ہوتا ہے اور فرمایا ”فَاقْدُرُوا لَهُ“ گنتی پوری کرو اور ثلاثین کا لفظ نہیں کہا۔
Imam sahab apne ustad Ubaidullah bin Saeed se Ubaidullah ki mazkoorah sanad hi se bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne Ramadan ka tazkirah kiya aur farmaya: mahina untees ka hota hai mahina aisa, aisa, aisa bhi hota hai aur farmaya "faqduroo lahu" ginti poori karo aur salaseen ka lafz nahi kaha.
Ibn Umar (رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, the month of Ramadan may consist of twenty-nine days. So do not fast till you have sighted the new moon and do not break fasting, till you have sighted the new moon of Shawwal, and if the sky is cloudy for you, then calculate.
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مہینہ انتیس (29) کا بھی ہوتا ہےاس لیے چاند دیکھے بغیر روزہ نہ رکھو اور نہ دیکھے بغیر افطار کرو اگر آسمان ابر آلود ہو تو گنتی (تیس) پوری کر لو۔“
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Mahina untees (29) ka bhi hota hai is liye chand dekhe baghair roza na rakho aur na dekhe baghair iftar karo agar aasman abar-alood ho toh ginti (tees) poori kar lo."
وَحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، - رضى الله عنهما - قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِنَّمَا الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ فَلاَ تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ وَلاَ تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ " .

Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, the month of Ramadan may consist of twenty-nine days; so when you see the new moon observe fast and when you see (the new moon again at the commencement of the month of Shawwal then break it, and if the sky is cloudy for you, then calculate it (as thirty days).
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: مہینہ انتیس (29) کا بھی ہوتا ہے تو جب چاند دیکھو لو، روزہ رکھ لو، اور جب اسے دیکھ لو تو افطار کر لو یعنی عید کر لو، اگر بادل ہو جائیں تو گنتی پوری کر لو۔“
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: mahina untees (29) ka bhi hota hai toh jab chand dekh lo, roza rakh lo, aur jab isay dekh lo toh iftar kar lo yani eid kar lo, agar badal ho jayein toh ginti poori kar lo."
Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, when you see the new moon, observe fast, and when you see it (again) then break fasting, and if the sky is cloudy for you, then calculate it.
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتےہوئے سنا کہ ”جب چاند دیکھو لو، روزہ رکھو لو، اور جب اسے دیکھ لو تو افطار کر لو یعنی (عید کر لو) اور اگر بادل چھا جائیں تو گنتی پوری کر لو۔“
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko farmatay hue suna ke "jab chand dekh lo, roza rakh lo, aur jab isay dekh lo toh iftar kar lo yani (eid kar lo) aur agar badal cha jayein toh ginti poori kar lo."
Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, the month may consist of twenty-nine nights, so do not fast till you have sighted the new moon and do not break fasting till you have sighted it, except when the sky is cloudy for you, and if it is so, then calculate it.
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مہینہ انتیس رات کا بھی ہوتا ہے چاند دیکھے بغیر روزہ نہ رکھو اور نہ دیکھے بغیر افطار کرو۔ رمضان ختم نہ کرو۔ الا یہ کہ مطلع پر بادل چھا جائیں۔ اگرتمھارا مطلع ابر آلود ہو تو اس کی گنتی پوری کرو۔“
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Mahina untees raat ka bhi hota hai chand dekhe baghair roza na rakho aur na dekhe baghair iftar karo. Ramadan khatm na karo. Illa yeh ke matla par badal cha jayein. Agar tumhara matla abar-alood ho toh us ki ginti poori karo."
Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, the month is thus and thus and thus (pointing with his fingers thrice), and he held back his thumb at the third time (in order to show that it can also consist of twenty-nine days).
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتےہوئے سنا، ”مہینہ اس طرح، اس طرح، اور اس طرح ہوتا ہے۔“ اور تیسری دفعہ اپنا انگوٹھا بند کر لیا۔
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko farmatay hue suna, "Mahina is tarah, is tarah, aur is tarah hota hai." Aur teesri dafa apna angootha band kar liya.
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، - رضى الله عنهما - يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا " . وَقَبَضَ إِبْهَامَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ .

وَحَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ الأَشْيَبُ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، قَالَ وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، - رضى الله عنهما - يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ " .

Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, the month of Ramadan is thus and thus, and thus meaning, ten, ten and nine.
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سےروایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مہینہ ایسا،ایسا، ایسا، دس اور دس اور نو(انتیس) بھی ہوتا ہے۔“
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Mahina aisa, aisa, aisa, das aur das aur nau (unitees) bhi hota hai."
وَحَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَكَّائِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، - رضى الله عنهما - عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا عَشْرًا وَعَشْرًا وَتِسْعًا " .

Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, the month is thus, and thus, and thus, and he flapped his hands with all their fingers twice. but at the third turn, folded his right thumb or left thumb (in order to give an idea of twenty-nine).
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مہینہ ایسا، ایسا، ایسا ہوتا ہے۔“ دو دفعہ دونوں ہاتھوں کی انگلیوں کو کھولا اور تیسری بار اشارہ کے وقت دائیں یا بائیں انگوٹھےکو بند کر لیا۔
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Mahina aisa, aisa, aisa hota hai." Do dafa donon hathon ki unglion ko khola aur teesri baar isharah ke waqt dayein ya bayein angoothe ko band kar liya.
وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ جَبَلَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ، عُمَرَ - رضى الله عنهما - يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " الشَّهْرُ كَذَا وَكَذَا وَكَذَا " . وَصَفَّقَ بِيَدَيْهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ بِكُلِّ أَصَابِعِهِمَا وَنَقَصَ فِي الصَّفْقَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ إِبْهَامَ الْيُمْنَى أَوِ الْيُسْرَى .

Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, the month of Ramadan may consist of twenty-nine days, and Shu'ba (one of the narrators) (gave a practical demonstration how the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) explained to them by unfolding his hands thrice and folding his thumb at the third turn. 'Uqba (one of the narrators in this chain of transmitters) said, I think that he said that the month consists of thirty days and unfolded his palm three times.
حضرت ا بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: مہینہ انتیس کا ہوتا ہے شعبہ نے تین بار ہاتھوں کی انگلیوں کو ملایا اور تیسری بار انگوٹھا الگ کر لیا، عقبہ کہتے ہیں میرا خیال ہے آپ نے فرمایا: ”مہینہ تیس کا بھی ہوتا ہے اور دونوں کو تین بار ملایا۔“
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: mahina untees ka hota hai Shoaba ne teen baar hathon ki unglion ko milaya aur teesri baar angootha alag kar liya, Uqba kehte hain mera khayal hai Aap ne farmaya: "Mahina tees ka bhi hota hai aur donon ko teen baar milaya."
Abdullah bin Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, ‘we are an unlettered people who can neither write nor count. The month is thus, and thus. folding his thumb when he said it the third time.
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہم امی امت ہیں ہم لکھتے نہیں ہیں اور حساب نہیں کرتے، مہینہ ایسا، ایسا، ایسا ہوتا ہے۔ اور تیسری دفعہ انگوٹھا بند کر لیا۔ اورمہینہ ایسا، ایسا، ایسا، ہوتا ہے۔ یعنی پورے تیس دن کا۔
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Hum ummi ummat hain hum likhtay nahi hain aur hisab nahi karte, mahina aisa, aisa, aisa hota hai. Aur teesri dafa angootha band kar liya. Aur mahina aisa, aisa, aisa, hota hai. Yani poore tees din ka.
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Aswad b. Qais with the same chain of transmitters, but herein no mention has been made of the other month (consisting of) thirty days.
امام صاحب یہی روایت اپنے استاد محمد بن حاتم بن قیس ہی کی سند سے بیان کرتے ہیں اس نے دوسرے مہینہ کے لیے تیس دن کا ذکر نہیں کیا۔
Imam sahab yahi riwayat apne ustad Muhammad bin Hatim bin Qais hi ki sanad se bayan karte hain us ne doosray mahina ke liye tees din ka zikr nahi kiya.
Sa'd bin 'Ubaida narrated that Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) heard a person saying, this night is the midnight (of the month). Upon this he said to him, how do you know that it is the midnight (of the month), for I heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, ‘the month is thus and thus (and he pointed with his ten fingers twice) and thus (at the third time he pointed with all his fingers but withdrew or folded his thumb).’
سعد بن عبیدہ رحمۃ اللہ علیہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے ایک آدمی کو یہ کہتے ہوئے سنا کہ آج رات نصف ماہ کی رات ہے تو انھوں نے اس سے کہا تمھیں کیسے پتہ چلا کہ آج رات آدھا ماہ گزر گیا؟ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا: ”مہینہ ایسا ایسا ہوتا ہے“ دو دفعہ اپنی دس دس انگلیوں سے اشارہ کیا۔ ”اور ایسا ہے“ (تیسری دفعہ اپنی سب انگلیوں سے اشارہ کیا اور اپنے انگوٹھے کو روک لیا یا ہٹا لیا۔ یعنی اپنے انگوٹھے کو بند کر لیا) ”حَبَسَ“ روک لیا ”خَنَسَ“ ہٹا لیا پیچھے کر لیا۔
Saad bin Ubaida (Rehmatullahi Alaihi) bayan karte hain ke Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum) ne ek aadmi ko yeh kehte hue suna ke aaj raat nisf-mah ki raat hai toh unhon ne us se kaha tumhein kaise pata chala ke aaj raat aadha mah guzar gaya? Main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko farmatay hue suna: "Mahina aisa aisa hota hai" do dafa apni das das unglion se isharah kiya. "Aur aisa hai" (teesri dafa apni sab unglion se isharah kiya aur apne angoothe ko rok liya ya hata liya. Yani apne angoothe ko band kar liya) "habasa" rok liya "khanasa" hata liya peeche kar liya.
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that Allah's Apostle ( صلىهللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, whenever, you sight the new moon of the month of Ramadan observe fast. and when you sight it (the new moon of Shawwal) break fasting, and if the sky is cloudy for you, then observe fast for thirty days.
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم چاند دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھو، اور جب اسے دوبارہ دیکھو تو روزہ افطار کردو۔ (عید کر لو) اور اگر چاند دکھائی نہ دے، تو تیس روزے رکھو۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Jab tum chand dekh lo toh roza rakho, aur jab isay dobara dekho toh roza iftar kardo. (Eid kar lo) aur agar chand dikhayi na day, toh tees rozay rakho."
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ، الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلاَلَ فَصُومُوا وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَصُومُوا ثَلاَثِينَ يَوْمًا " .
Sahih Muslim 1081b
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘observe fast on sighting the new moon and break fasting on sighting the new moon, but if the sky is cloudy for you, then complete the number (thirty).
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”چاند دیکھ کر روزہ رکھو اور چاند دیکھو تو روزہ رکھنا چھوڑ دو۔ اگر مہینہ کا چاند دکھائی نہ دے تو گنتی پوری کر لو۔(تیس دن پورے کرو)۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Chand dekh kar roza rakho aur chand dekho toh roza rakhna chorro do. Agar mahina ka chand dikhayi na day toh ginti poori kar lo (tees din poore karo)."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلاَّمٍ الْجُمَحِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ - عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ - عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، - رضى الله عنه - أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمِّيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا الْعَدَدَ " .
Sahih Muslim 1081c
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘observe fast on sighting the new moon and break fasting on sighting it. But in view of clouds, if the actual position of the month is concealed from you, you should then count thirty (days).
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے چاند کا تذکرہ کیا اورفرمایا: ”جب تم اسے دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھو اور جب تم اسے دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھنا چھوڑ دو۔ اگر مطلع ابر آلود اور اگر چاند تمھیں دکھائی نہ دے تو گنتی تیس کرو۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne chand ka tazkirah kiya aur farmaya: "Jab tum isay dekh lo toh roza rakho aur jab tum isay dekh lo toh roza rakhna chorro do. Agar matla abar-alood aur agar chand tumhein dikhayi na day toh ginti tees karo."
وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، - رضى الله عنه - يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمِّيَ عَلَيْكُمُ الشَّهْرُ فَعُدُّوا ثَلاَثِينَ " .
Sahih Muslim 1081d
Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) made a mention of the new moon and (in this connection) said, ‘observe fast when you see the new moon and break fasting when you see the new moon of Shawwal, but when (the actual position of the month is) concealed from you (on account of cloudy weather), then count thirty days.
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے چاند کا تذکرہ کیا اورفرمایا: ”جب تم اسے دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھو اورجب تم اسے پھر دیکھ لو تو روزہ افطارکرو پس اگر تم پر گرد و غبار چھا جائے تو تیس دن گنو۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne chand ka tazkirah kiya aur farmaya: "Jab tum isay dekh lo toh roza rakho aur jab tum isay phir dekh lo toh roza iftar karo pas agar tum par gard-o-ghubar cha jaye toh tees din gino."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ، عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْهِلاَلَ فَقَالَ " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَصُومُوا وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا فَإِنْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَعُدُّوا ثَلاَثِينَ " .
