باب آدَابِ الطَّعَامِ وَالشَّرَابِ وَأَحْكَامِهِمَا
Sahih Muslim 2017a
Hudhaifa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported, when we attended a dinner along with the Apostle of Allah (صلى هللا عليه و ِآله وسلم) we did not lay our hands on the food until Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) had laid his hand and commenced eating (the food). Once we went with him to a dinner when a girl came rushing as it someone had been pursuing her. She was about to lay her hand on the food, when Allah's Apostle (صلى ِهللا عليه و ِآله وسلم) caught her hand. Then a desert Arab came there (rushing) as if someone had been pursuing him. He (the Prophet ﷺ) caught his hand; and then Allah's Apostle (صلى ِهللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, Satan considers that food lawful on which Allah's name is not mentioned. He had brought this girl so that the food might be made lawful for him, and I caught her hand. And he had brought a desert Arab so that (the food) might be lawful for him. So, I caught his hand. By Him, in Whose hand is my life, it was (Satan's) hand that was in my hand along with her hand.
حضرت حذیفہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، ہم جب نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ کسی کھانے میں شریک ہوتے تو جب تک رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم آغاز فرماتے ہوئے ہوئے اپنا ہاتھ نہ بڑھاتے اور ایک دفعہ ہم آپ کے ساتھ کھانے کے لیے حاضر تھے تو ایک بچی آئی ہے گویا اسے دھکیلا جا رہا ہے ہم اپنے ہاتھ نہ بڑھاتے جب تک آپ نہ بڑھاتے تو وہ اپنا ہاتھ کھانے میں ڈالنے لگی تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کا ہاتھ پکڑ لیا، پھر ایک بدوی آیا، گویا کہ اس کا پیچھا کیا جا رہا ہے، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کا ہاتھ پکڑ لیا اور فرمایا: ”شیطان اس کھانے کو حلال سمجھ لیتا ہے، جس پر اللہ کا نام نہ لیا جائے اور وہ اس بچی کو لایا تاکہ اس کے ذریعہ کھانا حلال بنائے تو میں نے اس کا ہاتھ پکڑ لیا، پھر اس اعرابی کو لایا تاکہ اس کے ذریعہ حلال بنا لے، میں نے اس کا ہاتھ پکڑ لیا، اس ذات کی قسم جس کے ہاتھ میں میری جان ہے! اس کا ہاتھ بھی اس بچی کے ہاتھ کے ساتھ میرے ہاتھ میں ہے۔“
Hazrat Hudhaifa (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain, hum jab Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke saath kisi khane mein shareek hote toh jab tak Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) aaghaz farmate hue apna haath na barhate aur ek dafa hum aap ke saath khane ke liye hazir thay toh ek bacchi aayi hai goya ise dhakela ja raha hai hum apne haath na barhate jab tak aap na barhate toh woh apna haath khane mein dalne lagi toh Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne is ka haath pakar liya, phir ek badwi aaya, goya ke is ka peecha kiya ja raha hai, aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne is ka haath pakar liya aur farmaya: “Shaitan is khane ko halal samajh leta hai, jis par Allah ka naam na liya jaye aur woh is bacchi ko laya taake is ke zariya khana halal banaye toh mein ne is ka haath pakar liya, phir is a'rabi ko laya taake is ke zariya halal bana le, mein ne is ka haath pakar liya, is zaat ki qasam jis ke haath mein meri jaan hai! is ka haath bhi is bacchi ke haath ke saath mere haath mein hai.”
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، قَالَ كُنَّا إِذَا حَضَرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم طَعَامًا لَمْ نَضَعْ أَيْدِيَنَا حَتَّى يَبْدَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَيَضَعَ يَدَهُ وَإِنَّا حَضَرْنَا مَعَهُ مَرَّةً طَعَامًا فَجَاءَتْ جَارِيَةٌ كَأَنَّهَا تُدْفَعُ فَذَهَبَتْ لِتَضَعَ يَدَهَا فِي الطَّعَامِ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِيَدِهَا ثُمَّ جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ كَأَنَّمَا يُدْفَعُ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَسْتَحِلُّ الطَّعَامَ أَنْ لاَ يُذْكَرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُ جَاءَ بِهَذِهِ الْجَارِيَةِ لِيَسْتَحِلَّ بِهَا فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهَا فَجَاءَ بِهَذَا الأَعْرَابِيِّ لِيَسْتَحِلَّ بِهِ فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنَّ يَدَهُ فِي يَدِي مَعَ يَدِهَا " .
Sahih Muslim 2017b
Hudhaifa bin al-Yaman reported, when we were invited to a dinner with Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه ِو آله وسلم); the rest of Hadith is the same but there is a slight variation of wording (and the variation is) that in that Hadith the desert Arab precedes the arrival of that girl, and at the conclusion there is an addition (to this effect), He (the Prophet ﷺ) then mentioned the name of Allah and ate.’
حضرت حذیفہ بن یمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، جب ہمیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ کھانے کی دعوت ملتی، آگے اوپر کی ابومعاویہ کی روایت کے ہم معنی روایت ہے اور اس "كان تدفع" کی جگہ بچی کے لیے "تطرد" ہے اور اعرابی کے لیے "يطرد" ہے اور اس نے اعرابی کی آمد کا تذکرہ پہلے کیا ہے، اور حدیث کے آخر میں یہ اضافہ کیا ہے، پھر "اللہ کا نام لے کر کھانا شروع کر دیا،" تدفع اور تطرد (دونوں کا معنی بھگانا ہے)
Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Yaman (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain, jab humein Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke saath khane ki dawat milti, aage upar ki Abu Muawiya ki riwayat ke hum mani riwayat hai aur is "ka'anna tudfa'u" ki jagah bacchi ke liye "tatrudu" hai aur a'rabi ke liye "yutradu" hai aur us ne a'rabi ki aamad ka tazkira pehle kiya hai, aur hadees ke aakhir mein yeh izafa kiya hai, phir "Allah ka naam le kar khana shuru kar diya," tudfa'u aur tatrudu (donon ka mani bhagana hai)
Jabir bin Abdullah reported Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و ِآله وسلم) as saying, when a person enters his house and mentions the name of Allah at the time of entering it and while eating the food, Satan says (addressing himself, you have no place to spend the night and no evening meal; but when he enters without mentioning the name of Allah, the Satan says, you have found a place to spend the night, and when he does not mention the name of Allah while eating food, he (the Satan) says, you have found a place to spend the night and evening meal.
حضرت جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے سنا: ”جب آدمی اپنے گھر میں داخل ہوتے وقت اور کھاتے وقت اللہ کو یاد کرتا ہے، شیطان کہتا ہے، تمہارے لیے رات گزارنے کی جگہ نہیں ہے اور نہ شام کا کھانا اور جب وہ داخل ہوتے وقت اللہ کو یاد نہیں کرتا، شیطان (ساتھیوں کو) کہتا ہے، تمہیں رات گزارنے کی جگہ مل گئی اور جب کھاتے وقت اللہ کو یاد نہیں کرتا، شیطان کہتا ہے، قیام گاہ اور کھانا دونوں تمہیں مل گئے۔“
Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhuma) se riwayat hai ke unhon ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ko yeh farmate suna: “Jab aadmi apne ghar mein dakhil hote waqt aur khate waqt Allah ko yaad karta hai, shaitan kehta hai, tumhare liye raat guzarne ki jagah nahi hai aur na shaam ka khana aur jab woh dakhil hote waqt Allah ko yaad nahi karta, shaitan (saathiyon ko) kehta hai, tumhein raat guzarne ki jagah mil gayi aur jab khate waqt Allah ko yaad nahi karta, shaitan kehta hai, qiyam gah aur khana donon tumhein mil gaye.”
This Hadith has been narrated on the authority of Jabir bin Abdullah (ِرضي الله تعالى عنه) through the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.
یہی روایت مصنف ایک اور استاد سے بیان کرتے ہیں، مگر اس میں یہ الفاظ ہیں ”اگر وہ اپنے کھانے کے وقت اللہ کا ذکر نہیں کرتا اور گھر وہ داخل ہوتے وقت اللہ کو یاد نہیں کرتا۔“
Yahi riwayat musannif ek aur ustad se bayan karte hain, magar is mein yeh alfaz hain “agar woh apne khane ke waqt Allah ka zikr nahi karta aur ghar woh dakhil hote waqt Allah ko yaad nahi karta.”
Jabir bin Abdullah (رضئ ِهللا تعالی عنہ) reported Allah's Apostle (ِصلى هللا ِعليه و آله وسلم) having said, do not eat with your left hand, for the Satan eats with his left hand.
حضرت جابر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”بائیں ہاتھ سے نہ کھاؤ، کیونکہ شیطان بائیں ہاتھ سے کھاتا ہے۔“
Hazrat Jabir (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se riwayat hai, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Bayen haath se na khao, kyunke shaitan bayen haath se khata hai.”
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " لاَ تَأْكُلُوا بِالشِّمَالِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَأْكُلُ بِالشِّمَالِ " .
Sahih Muslim 2020a
Ibn Umar (رضئ ِهللا تعالی عنہ) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, when any one of you intends to eat (meal), he should eat with his right hand and when he (intends) to drink he should drink with his right hand, for the Satan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand.
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم میں سے کوئی کھائے تو دائیں ہاتھ سے کھائے اور جب پیے تو دائیں ہاتھ سے پیے کیونکہ شیطان اپنے بائیں ہاتھ سے کھاتا اور اپنے بائیں سے پیتا ہے۔“
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhuma) se riwayat hai ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Jab tum mein se koi khaye toh dayen haath se khaye aur jab piye toh dayen haath se piye kyunke shaitan apne bayen haath se khata aur apne bayen se peeta hai.”
Salim, on the authority of his father, reported Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه ِو آله وسلم) as saying, none of you should eat with his left hand and drink with that (left hand), for the Satan eats with left hand and drinks with that (hand). Nafi' has made this addition in that, ‘do not take up anything with that (left hand) and do not give anything with that; and in the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu Tahir there is a slight variation of wording.
حضرت سالم اپنے باپ سے بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تم میں سے کوئی ہرگز اپنے بائیں ہاتھ سے نہ کھائے اور نہ ہرگز اس سے پیے، کیونکہ شیطان اپنے بائیں سے کھاتا اور اس سے پیتا ہے۔“ اور نافع اس میں یہ اضافہ کرتے تھے: ”نہ بائیں سے پکڑے اور نہ اس سے دے۔“ ابو طاہر کی روایت میں، لا يأكلن أحد منكم
Hazrat Salim apne baap se bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Tum mein se koi hargiz apne bayen haath se na khaye aur na hargiz is se piye, kyunke shaitan apne bayen se khata aur is se peeta hai.” aur Nafi is mein yeh izafa karte thay: “na bayen se pakray aur na is se de.” Abu Tahir ki riwayat mein, 'la ya'kulanna ahadun minkum' (ka zikr hai).
Salama bin Akwa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported on the authority of his father that a person ate in the presence of Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) with his left hand, whereupon he said, eat with your right hand. He said, I cannot do that, whereupon he (the Prophet ﷺ) said, may you not be able to do that. It was vanity that prevented him from doing it, and he could not raise it (the right hand) up to his mouth.
حضرت ایاس بن سلمہ بن اکوع رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما اپنے باپ سے بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ایک آدمی نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس اپنے بائیں ہاتھ سے کھانا شروع کیا تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”اپنے دائیں ہاتھ سے کھاؤ۔“ اس نے کہا: یہ میرے بس میں نہیں ہے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تیرے بس میں نہ رہے۔“ حضرت سلمہ کہتے ہیں: یہ اس نے محض تکبر کی بنا پر کہا تھا، اس لیے بعد میں اس کو اپنے منہ تک نہ اٹھا سکا۔
Hazrat Iyas bin Salama bin Akwa (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhuma) apne baap se bayan karte hain ke ek aadmi ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke paas apne bayen haath se khana shuru kiya toh aap ne farmaya: “Apne dayen haath se khao.” us ne kaha: yeh mere bas mein nahi hai. Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Tere bas mein na rahe.” Hazrat Salama kehte hain: yeh us ne mahz takabbur ki bina par kaha tha, is liye baad mein us ko apne munh tak na utha saka.
Umar bin Abu Salama (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported, I was under the care of Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و ِآله وسلم), and as my hand used to roam about in the dish he said to me, boy, mention the name of Allah, and eat with your right hand and eat from what is near to you.
حضرت عمر بن ابی سلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے زیر کفالت تھا اور میرا ہاتھ پلیٹ میں گھوم رہا تھا، (میں ہر طرف سے کھا رہا تھا) تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے فرمایا: ”اے بچے! اللہ کا نام لو اور اپنے دائیں ہاتھ سے کھاؤ اور اپنے پاس سے کھاؤ۔“
Hazrat Umar bin Abi Salama (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain ke mein ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke zair-e-kafalat tha aur mera haath plate mein ghoom raha tha, (mein har taraf se kha raha tha) toh aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne mujhe farmaya: “Ae bacche! Allah ka naam lo aur apne dayen haath se khao aur apne paas se khao.”
Umar bin Abu Salama (رضئ ِهللا تعالی عنہ) reported, I (had the opportunity) one day to dine with Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), and I picked up meat from around the dish. Thereupon Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, eat from that which is near to you.
حضرت عمر بن ابی سلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، ایک دن میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ کھانا کھایا اور میں گوشت پلیٹ کے ہر طرف سے لینے لگا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اپنے قریب سے کھاؤ، سامنے سے کھاؤ۔“
Hazrat Umar bin Abi Salama (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain, ek din mein ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke saath khana khaya aur mein gosht plate ke har taraf se lene laga toh Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: “Apne qareeb se khao, samne se khao.”
وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي، مَرْيَمَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ، عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَكَلْتُ يَوْمًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَجَعَلْتُ آخُذُ مِنْ لَحْمٍ حَوْلَ الصَّحْفَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " كُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيكَ " .
Sahih Muslim 2023a
Abu Sa'id Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه ِو آله وسلم) forbade from turning the waterskins upside down and drinking from its mouth.
حضرت ابوسعید رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مشکیزوں کے منہ موڑنے سے منع فرمایا۔
Hazrat Abu Said (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne mashkizon ke munh morne se mana farmaya.
وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ نَهَى النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ اخْتِنَاثِ الأَسْقِيَةِ .
Sahih Muslim 2023b
Abu Sa'id Khudri (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه ِو آله وسلم) forbade from turning the waterskins upside down and drinking from their mouths.
حضرت ابوسعید رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مشکوں کا منہ موڑ کر پانی پینے سے منع فرمایا۔
Hazrat Abu Said (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) bayan karte hain, Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne mashkon ka munh mor kar pani peene se mana farmaya.
This Hadith has been reported from Zuhri with the same chain of transmitters, but he also said that Ikhtinath (اخْتِنَاثُهَا) means that its head (of the waterskin) be turned upside down and then (water) be drank from that.
امام صاحب ایک اور استاد سے یہ روایت بیان کرتے ہیں، مگر اس میں یہ ہے، إختناث
Imam sahib ek aur ustad se yeh riwayat bayan karte hain, magar is mein yeh hai, 'ikhtinath' (ka zikr hai).
