What did they say about a dog eating from its prey
مَا قَالُوا فِي الْكَلْبِ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ صَيْدِهِ
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 19567
It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about hunting with dogs. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If you send your trained dog and you mention the name of Allah while sending it, then eat from what it hunts, even if the dog kills it. But if it eats from it, then do not eat from it, for I fear that it may have hunted it for itself. And if other dogs join your dogs, then do not eat from it."
حضرت عدی بن حاتم (رض) سے روایت ہے، فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے عرض کیا ہم لوگ کتوں کے ذریعے شکار کرتے ہیں، اس کا کیا حکم ہے ؟ حضور (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا کہ اگر تم اپنے سدھائے ہوئے کتے کو بھیجو اور انھیں بھیجتے وقت اللہ کا نام لو تو اس کے لائے شکار کو کھالو خواہ کتے اس شکار کو مار ڈالیں، اگر وہ اس میں سے کھا لیں تو پھر تم اس شکار کو مت کھاؤ کیونکہ مجھے خوف ہے کہ جس شکار میں سے اس نے خود کھایا ہے اسے اپنے لیے دبوچا ہوگا۔ اگر تمہارے کتوں کے ساتھ دوسرے کتے بھی مل جائیں تو پھر بھی اس شکار کو مت کھاؤ۔
Hazrat Adi bin Hatim (RA) se riwayat hai, farmate hain ke maine Rasool Allah (SAW) se arz kiya hum log kutton ke zariye shikar karte hain, iska kya hukum hai? Huzoor (SAW) ne farmaya ke agar tum apne sudhaye huye kutte ko bhejo aur unhein bhejte waqt Allah ka naam lo to uske laaye shikar ko kha lo chahe kutte us shikar ko maar dalen, agar woh isme se kha len to phir tum us shikar ko mat khao kyunki mujhe khauf hai ke jis shikar mein se usne khud khaya hai use apne liye dabocha hoga. Agar tumhare kutton ke sath dusre kutte bhi mil jayen to phir bhi us shikar ko mat khao.
It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Mak'hool (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "When you set your trained dog for hunting and it eats from it, and you do not get a chance to slaughter it, then do not eat from it. And if it does not eat from it, but you find the prey dead, then eat from it."
حضرت مکحول (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ جب تم اپنے سدھائے ہوئے کتے کو شکار پر چھوڑو اور وہ اس میں سے کھالے اور تمہیں اس کو ذبح کرنے کا موقع نہ ملے تو اس میں سے مت کھاؤ اور اگر وہ اس میں سے نہ کھائے لیکن تم اس شکار کو مردہ حالت میں پاؤ تو بھی ٖ اس کو کھالو۔
Hazrat Makhool (RA) se riwayat hai ki Rasool Allah (SAW) ne irshad farmaya ki jab tum apne siddhaye huye kutte ko shikar par chhodo aur woh is mein se khaale aur tumhen is ko zibah karne ka mauqa na mile to is mein se mat khao aur agar woh is mein se na khaaye lekin tum is shikar ko murda halat mein pao to bhi is ko khao.
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (R.A) said: If you leave your dog for hunting and it eats from it then you shall not eat from it because it has hunted it for itself and if it does not eat from it then you may eat because it has hunted it for you and even if the prey has died then eat from it.
حضرت ابن عباس (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ اگر تم اپنے کتے کو شکار پر چھوڑ دو اور وہ اس میں سے کھالے تو تم اس کو نہ کھاؤ کیونکہ اس نے شکار کو اپنے لیے دبوچا ہے اور اگر وہ اس میں سے نہ کھائے تو تم کھالو کیونکہ اس نے یہ شکار تمہارے لیے کیا ہے خواہ وہ شکار مرجائے پھر بھی کھالو۔
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (RA) farmate hain keh agar tum apne kutte ko shikaar par chhor do aur woh is mein se khaale to tum is ko na khao kyunkeh us ne shikaar ko apne liye dabocha hai aur agar woh is mein se na khaaye to tum khao kyunkeh us ne yeh shikaar tumhare liye kiya hai chahe woh shikaar mar jaye phir bhi khao.
Hazrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When you release your dog for hunting and it eats something from the prey, then do not eat that prey, because it has reserved it for itself.
حضرت ابن عباس (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ جب تم اپنے کتے کو شکار پر چھوڑو اور وہ اس میں سے کچھ کھالے تو اس شکار کو مت کھاؤ کیونکہ اس نے اسے اپنے لیے روکا ہے۔
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (RA) farmate hain keh jab tum apne kutte ko shikaar par chhoro aur wo us mein se kuch khaale to us shikaar ko mat khao kyunkeh us ne use apne liye roka hai.
The paternal uncle of Abu Minhaal al-Ta'i said: I asked Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) about hunting with dogs, and he said: "Put a collar on your dog so it is known that it is a trained hunting dog, then say the name of Allah and release it to hunt. Whatever it catches, you may eat, but if it eats from the prey, then do not eat from it."
حضرت ابو منہال طائی کے چچا کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے حضرت ابوہریرہ (رض) سے کتے کے شکار کے بارے میں سوال کیا تو انھوں نے فرمایا کہ کتے کے گلے میں سے سدھائے ہوئے کتے کی نشانی والا پٹہ ڈالو، اس کو شکار پر چھوڑ دو اور بسم اللہ پڑھو، پھر جو بھی شکار وہ کرے اسے کھالو، البتہ اس نے بھی کھالیا تو مت کھاؤ۔
Hazrat Abu Minhal Tai ke chacha kehte hain ke maine Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) se kutte ke shikar ke bare mein sawal kiya to unhon ne farmaya ke kutte ke gale mein se sudhaye hue kutte ki nishani wala patta dalo, usko shikar par chhoro aur Bismillah parho, phir jo bhi shikar wo kare use khao, albatta usne bhi khaliya to mat khao.
Hazrat Taous (R.A) said that if the dog has eaten from the hunt, then it has hunted for itself and not for you, therefore, do not eat it.
حضرت طاوس (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ اگر کتا شکار میں سے کھائے تو اس نے یہ شکار اپنے لیے کیا ہے تمہارے لیے نہیں کیا، اس لیے اسے مت کھاؤ۔
Hazrat Taous (RA) farmate hain keh agar kutta shikaar mein se khaaye to us ne ye shikaar apne liye kiya hai tumhare liye nahi kiya, is liye use mat khao.
Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair (R.A) says that when you leave your trained dog for hunting and you have taken the name of Allah, you should eat (the game), whether it hunts it down. Hazrat Safiyan said, I have doubt about falcon.
حضرت عبید بن عمیر (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ جب تم اپنے سدھائے ہوئے کتے کو شکار پر چھوڑو اور اللہ کا نام لو تو اس کو کھاؤ خواہ وہ شکار کو مار ڈالے۔ حضرت سفیان فرماتے ہیں کہ مجھے باز کے بارے میں شک ہے۔
Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair (RA) farmate hain keh jab tum apne sudhaye huye kutte ko shikar par chhoro aur Allah ka naam lo to us ko khao chahe wo shikar ko maar dale. Hazrat Sufyan farmate hain keh mujhe baaz ke bare mein shak hai.
It was asked from Hazrat Saeed bin Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), "If a dog licks its prey, can it be eaten?" He said, "In this case, do not eat the prey."
حضرت سعید بن جبیر (رض) سے سوال کیا گیا کہ اگر کتا اپنے شکار میں سے کھالے تو کیا اس کو کھایا جاسکتا ہے ؟ فرمایا اس صورت میں شکار کو نہ کھاؤ۔
Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair (RA) se sawal kiya gaya keh agar kutta apne shikaar mein se khaale to kya usko khaya ja sakta hai? Farmaya is surat mein shikaar ko na khao.
Hazrat Suwayd bin Ghaflah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When you set your dog (for hunting) while taking Allah's name, then eat from its game, provided that it has not eaten from it itself.
حضرت سوید بن غفلہ (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ جب تم کتے کو روانہ کرتے وقت اللہ کا نام لو تو اس کے شکار کو کھالو بشرطیکہ وہ خود اس میں سے نہ کھائے۔
Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghafla (RA) farmate hain ke jab tum kutte ko rawana karte waqt Allah ka naam lo to uske shikar ko khao basharte ke woh khud us mein se na khaye.
Hazrat Zahak (R.A) said that if a trained dog is set on a prey and it eats from it then you should not eat from it. And if it kills it but does not eat from it then you may eat from it.
حضرت ضحاک (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ سدھایا ہوا کتا اگر شکار پر چھوڑو اور وہ اس شکار میں سے کھالے تو تم اسے مت کھاؤ اور اگر وہ اسے مار ڈالے لیکن نہ کھائے تو اسے کھالو۔
Hazrat Dahak (RA) farmate hain ke sudhaya hua kutta agar shikar par chhoro aur wo us shikar mein se khaye to tum use mat khao aur agar wo use maar dale lekin na khaye to use khao.
Hazrat Shabi (R.A) said that when you leave your dog for hunting and it hunts down the prey then it is only for the dog and you should not eat from it because it has not learned what you have taught it.
حضرت شعبی (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ جب تم اپنے کتے کو شکار پر چھوڑو اور وہ اس شکار میں سے کھالے تو یہ شکار اس نے اپنے لیے روکا ہے تم اس میں سے مت کھاؤ، کیونکہ جو تم نے اسے سکھایا ہے وہ اس نے نہیں سیکھا۔
Hazrat Shabi (RA) farmate hain ke jab tum apne kutte ko shikar par chhoro aur wo us shikar mein se khaye to ye shikar usne apne liye roka hai tum us mein se mat khao, kyunki jo tumne use sikhaya hai wo usne nahi sikha.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When a man releases his hunting animal and he has mentioned the name of Allah over it, then if that hunting animal has not eaten of the prey, then he may eat from it."
حضرت ابو رافع (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ جب آدمی اپنے شکاری جانور کو چھوڑے اور وہ اس پر اللہ کا نام بھی لے تو اگر اس شکاری جانور نے شکار کو نہ کھایا ہو تب اس میں سے کھالے۔
Hazrat Abu Rafi (RA) se riwayat hai keh Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne irshad farmaya keh jab aadmi apne shikari janwar ko chhode aur wo uss par Allah ka naam bhi le to agar uss shikari janwar ne shikar ko na khaya ho tab uss mein se khaale.
Hazrat Abu Tha'laba Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I said, 'O Messenger of Allah! We are hunters.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'When you release your dog for hunting and mention the name of Allah, then if it catches the prey, you may eat it.' I said, 'Even if it kills it?' He said, 'Yes, even if it kills it.'
حضرت ابو ثعلبہ خشنی (رض) کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! ہم شکاری لوگ ہیں۔ حضور (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا کہ جب تم اپنے کتے کو شکار پر چھوڑو اور اللہ کا نام لو، اگر وہ شکار کو روک لے تو تم اسے کھالو، میں نے کہا خواہ وہ اسے مار ڈالے ؟ آپ نے فرمایا ہاں خواہ وہ اسے مار ڈالے۔
Hazrat Abu Thalaba Khushni (RA) kehte hain ke mein ne arz kiya: Aye Allah ke Rasool! Hum shikari log hain. Huzoor (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya ke jab tum apne kutte ko shikar par chhodo aur Allah ka naam lo, agar woh shikar ko rok le to tum use kha lo, mein ne kaha khawah woh use maar dale? Aap ne farmaya haan khawah woh use maar dale.
