Chapter on one who eats thinking that the sun has set, then realizes it has not.
باب من أكل وهو يرى أن الشمس قد غربت ثم بان أنها لم تغرب

Asma (RA) narrates that we broke our fast on a cloudy day during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then the sun came out, so I said to Hisham: Then they were ordered to make it up, this is its solution.

(٨٠١١) حضرت اسماء (رض) فرماتی ہیں کہ ہم نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے دور میں ایک بادل کے دن میں روزہ افطار کیا، پھر سورج نکل آیا تو میں نے ہشام سے کہا : پھر انھیں قضاکا حکم دیا گیا یہی اس کا حل ہے۔
(8011) Hazrat Asma (Razi Allah Anha) farmati hain ke hum ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke daur mein ek badal ke din mein roza iftar kiya, phir sooraj nikal aaya to main ne Hisham se kaha : phir unhen qaza ka hukum diya gaya yahi is ka hal hai.
Zayd bin Muslim narrates from his brother Khalid bin Aslam that Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) broke his fast on a cloudy day in Ramadan. He thought that the evening had come and the sun had set. Then a man came to him and said: “O Amir al-Mu'minin! The sun has risen.” So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "There is only a small difference, we had made an Ijtihad (religious ruling based on interpretation)." Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said that he should make up for it with one day's fast.

(٨٠١٢) زید بن مسلم اپنے بھائی خالد بن اسلم سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ عمر بن خطاب (رض) نے رمضان میں ایک بادلوں کے دن میں روزہ افطار کیا۔ انھوں نے سمجھا کہ شام ہوچکی ہے اور سورج غروب ہوچکا ہے ، پھر ان کے پاس ایک آدمی آیا اور اس نے کہا : اے امیر المومنین ! سورج نکل آیا ہے تو عمر (رض) نے کہا : فرق تو تھوڑاہی ہے ، ویسے ہم نے اجتھاد کیا تھا۔ امام شافعی (رح) فرماتے ہیں اس کے عوض ایک دن کی قضاکرے۔
8012 Zaid bin Muslim apne bhai Khalid bin Aslam se naql farmate hain ke Umar bin Khattab (RA) ne Ramazan mein ek badlon ke din mein roza iftar kiya Unhon ne samjha ke sham ho chuki hai aur sooraj ghuroob ho chuka hai phir un ke paas ek aadmi aaya aur us ne kaha: Aye Amir-ul-Momineen sooraj nikal aaya hai to Umar (RA) ne kaha: Farq to thora hi hai waise hum ne ijtihad kiya tha Imam Shafi (RA) farmate hain is ke awaz ek din ki qaza kare
Ali bin Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father that we were with Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when a bowl of food was brought during the month of Ramadan. The Muadhin (the one who calls for prayer) said, “The sun is still out.” Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “May Allah protect us from your evil! We did not send you to look at the sun. We sent you to call us for prayer.” Then he said, “Whoever among you has broken his fast, let him make up for that one day or complete his fast.”

(٨٠١٣) علی بن حنظلہ (رض) اپنے والد سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ ہم عمر (رض) کے پاس تھے کہ رمضان کے مہینے میں ایک ٹب لایا گیا، موذن نے کہا : ابھی سورج ہے تو انھوں نے کہا : اللہ ہمیں تیرے شر سے محفوظ رکھے ، ہم نے تجھے سورج دیکھنے کے لیے نہیں بھیجا، ہم نے تجھے نماز کی طرف بلانے کے لیے بھیجا ہے۔ پھر فرمایا : اے لوگو ! جس نے تم میں سے روزہ افطار کرلیا ہے وہ ایک دن کی قضا دے یا اپنے روزے کو پوراکرے۔
8013 Ali bin Hanzla (rz) apne walid se naql farmate hain ki hum Umar (rz) ke paas thay ki Ramazan ke mahine mein ek tab laya gaya, Moazzan ne kaha: Abhi Suraj hai to unhon ne kaha: Allah hamen tere sharr se mahfooz rakhe, hum ne tujhe Suraj dekhne ke liye nahin bheja, hum ne tujhe Namaz ki taraf bulane ke liye bheja hai. Phir farmaya: Aye Logo! Jis ne tum mein se roza iftar karliya hai wo ek din ki qaza de ya apne roze ko poora kare.
(8014) Ali bin Hanzala (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from his father that his grandfather was a friend of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: Once I was with Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) in Ramadan, and he broke his fast and the people also broke their fast. Then the Mu'adhdhin ascended to give the Adhan (call to prayer). He said: O people, the sun has not yet set. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May Allah suffice us against your evil, we did not send you to watch this. Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever among you has broken his fast, let him fast another day in its place.

(٨٠١٤) علی بن حنظلہ (رض) اپنے والد سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ ان کے والد کا والد عمر (رض) کے دوست تھے۔ وہ کہتے ہیں : میں ایک مرتبہ رمضان میں عمر (رض) کے پاس تھا تو انھوں نے روزہ افطار کیا اور لوگوں نے بھی روزہ افطار کرلیا پھر موذن اذان کے لیے اُوپر چڑھاتو اس نے کہا : لوگو یہ رہا سورج ابھی تو غروب نہیں ہو اتو عمر (رض) نے کہا : اللہ ہمیں تیرے شر سے کافی ہو، ہم نے تجھے یہ دیکھنے کے لیے نہیں بھیجا۔ پھر عمر (رض) نے کہا : جس نے تم میں سے افطار کرلیا ہے وہ اس کے عوض ایک روزہ رکھے۔
(8014) Ali bin Hanzla (RA) apne wald se naqal farmate hain ke unke wald ke wald Umar (RA) ke dost thay. Wo kehte hain : Main ek martaba Ramadan mein Umar (RA) ke paas tha to unhon ne roza iftari kiya aur logon ne bhi roza iftari karliya phir moazzin azan ke liye upar chadha to usne kaha : Lo yeh raha suraj abhi to ghuroob nahi hua to Umar (RA) ne kaha : Allah hamein tere sharr se kaafi ho, hum ne tujhe yeh dekhne ke liye nahi bheja. Phir Umar (RA) ne kaha : Jis ne tum mein se iftari karliya hai wo uske awaz ek roza rakhe.
(8015) Bishr bin Qais narrated from Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that once during Ramadan, I was with Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and the sky was cloudy that day. He thought the sun had set, so he drank and made me drink too. Then he saw it on the side of a mountain. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: No problem, we will keep a fast in lieu of this one.
The existence of these narrations from Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) is evidence that making up for a missed fast is obligatory in case of a mistake, and according to the narration of Zaid bin Thabit, it is forbidden to leave it.

(٨٠١٥) بشر بن قیس عمربن خطاب (رض) سے نقل فرماتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ میں رمضان میں عمر (رض) کے پاس تھا اور اس دن بادل چھائے ہوئے تھے ، انھوں نے سمجھا کہ سورج غروب ہوچکا ہے تو عمر (رض) نے پیا اور مجھے بھی پلایا، پھر انھوں نے اسے پہاڑ کے دامن میں دیکھا تو عمر (رض) نے کہا : کوئی بات نہیں ہم اس کے عوض ایک روزہ رکھیں گے۔
عمربن خطاب (رض) سے ان روایات کا واضح آنا غلطی کی صورت میں قضا کے واجب ہونے کی دلیل ہے اور زید بن وھب کی روایت کے مطابق قضا کے ترک کی ہے۔
(8015) Bashar bin Qais Umar bin Khattab (RA) se naqal farmate hain ke ek martaba main Ramazan mein Umar (RA) ke paas tha aur us din badal chhaye huye the, unhon ne samjha ke sooraj ghuroob ho chuka hai to Umar (RA) ne piya aur mujhe bhi pilaya, phir unhon ne use pahar ke daaman mein dekha to Umar (RA) ne kaha: Koi baat nahin hum iske awaz ek rozah rakhenge.
Umar bin Khattab (RA) se in riwayat ka wafayh aana ghalti ki soorat mein qaza ke wajib hone ki daleel hai aur Zaid bin Wahab ki riwayat ke mutabiq qaza ke tark ki.
(8016) Zayd bin Wahb (RA) narrated that once we were sitting in the Masjid of Medina, it was Ramadan and there were clouds in the sky. We thought the sun had set and we broke our fast, then a tub of milk was brought out to us from Bayt Hafsa, so Umar (RA) drank and we also drank. We had only been there a short while when the clouds cleared and the sun came out, so some of us said, "We will make it up." This reached Umar (RA), so he said, "By Allah! We will not make it up. We did not commit this sin knowingly."
This narration contradicts the previous narrations. Zayd is Thiqah but not immune from mistakes. May Allah protect us from spreading and making mistakes with His vast mercy.

(٨٠١٦) زید بن وھب (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ ہم مدینے کی مسجد میں بیٹھے تھے، رمضان کی بات ہے اور آسمانوں پر بادل تھے۔ ہم نے سوچا کہ سورج غروب ہوچکا ہے اور ہم نے شام کرلی تو ہمارے لیے بیت حفصہ سے دودھ کا ایک ٹب نکالا گیا تو عمر (رض) نے پیا اور ہم نے بھی پیا۔ ہم ابھی تھوڑی دیر ہی ٹھہرے تھے کہ بادل چھٹ گئے اور سورج نکلا تو ہم میں سے بعض نے کہا ہم قضاکر دیں گے : یہ بات عمر (رض) کو پہنچی تو انھوں نے کہا : اللہ کی قسم ! ہم اس کی قضا نہیں کریں گے ہم نے یہ گناہ جان بوجھ کر نہیں کیا۔
یہ روایت پہلی روایات کے مخالف ہے۔ زید ثقہ ہیں مگر خطاء سے مامون نہیں ہیں اللہ ہمیں پھیلنے اور غلطی سے بچائے اپنی وسیع رحمت سے۔
(8016) Zaid bin Wahab (RA) farmate hain ke aik martaba hum Madinay ki masjid mein baithe thay, Ramzan ki baat hai aur aasmano par badal thay. Hum ne socha ke sooraj ghuroob hochuka hai aur hum ne sham karli to humare liye baitul hifza se doodh ka aik tab nikala gaya to Umar (RA) ne piya aur hum ne bhi piya. Hum abhi thori dair hi thehre thay ke badal chhat gaye aur sooraj nikla to hum mein se baz ne kaha hum qaza kar denge : yeh baat Umar (RA) ko pahunchi to unhon ne kaha : Allah ki qasam ! Hum is ki qaza nahin karenge hum ne ye gunah jaan boojh kar nahin kiya.
Yeh riwayat pehli riwayat ke mukhalif hai. Zaid siqqa hain magar khata se mamun nahin hain Allah humein phailne aur ghalti se bachaye apni wasee rehmat se.
Shuaib bin Amr bin Salim (RA) Ansari, who lived to be 115 years old, said: "We broke our fast with Suhaib (RA). My father and I were having our evening meal during a rainy and cloudy day in Ramadan. When the sun appeared, Suhaib (RA) said: 'This was a meal from Allah, so complete your fast until night and make up for it with another fast day.'"

(٨٠١٧) شعیب بن عمروبن سلیم (رض) انصاری ایک سو پندرہ سال کی عمر میں تھے، فرماتے ہیں کہ ہم نے صہیب کے ساتھ افطار کیا، میں اور میرے والد رمضان کے مہینے میں ایک بارش اور بادلوں کے دن میں ہم رات کا کھانا کھا رہے تھے کہ سورج ظاہر ہوگیا تو صہیب (رض) نے کہا : یہ اللہ کی طرف سے کھلانا تھا، لہٰذا تم اپنا روزہ رات تک پورا کرو اور اس کی جگہ ایک روزہ کی قضا کرنا۔
(8017) Shoaib bin Amr bin Saleem (RA) Ansari ek so pandrah saal ki umar mein thay, farmate hain ke humne Sohaib ke sath iftar kiya, main aur mere walid Ramazan ke mahine mein ek barish aur badlon ke din mein hum raat ka khana kha rahe thay ke sooraj zahir hogaya to Sohaib (RA) ne kaha: Yeh Allah ki taraf se khulana tha, lihaza tum apna roza raat tak poora karo aur is ki jagah ek roza ki qaza karna.
