Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama: The group of people whom `Umar had selected as candidates for the Caliphate gathered and consulted each other. `Abdur-Rahman said to them, I am not going to compete with you in this matter, but if you wish, I would select for you a caliph from among you. So all of them agreed to let `Abdur-Rahman decide the case. So when the candidates placed the case in the hands of `Abdur-Rahman, the people went towards him and nobody followed the rest of the group nor obeyed any after him. So the people followed `Abdur-Rahman and consulted him all those nights till there came the night we gave the oath of allegiance to `Uthman. Al-Miswar (bin Makhrama) added: `Abdur-Rahman called on me after a portion of the night had passed and knocked on my door till I got up, and he said to me, I see you have been sleeping! By Allah, during the last three nights I have not slept enough. Go and call Az-Zubair and Sa`d.' So I called them for him and he consulted them and then called me saying, 'Call `Ali for me. I called `Ali and he held a private talk with him till very late at night, and then 'Al, got up to leave having had much hope (to be chosen as a Caliph) but `Abdur-Rahman was afraid of something concerning `Ali. `Abdur-Rahman then said to me, Call `Uthman for me. I called him and he kept on speaking to him privately till the Mu'adh-dhin put an end to their talk by announcing the Adhan for the Fajr prayer. When the people finished their morning prayer and that (six men) group gathered near the pulpit, `Abdur-Rahman sent for all the Muhajirin (emigrants) and the Ansar present there and sent for the army chief who had performed the Hajj with `Umar that year. When all of them had gathered, `Abdur- Rahman said, None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and added, Now then, O `Ali, I have looked at the people's tendencies and noticed that they do not consider anybody equal to `Uthman, so you should not incur blame (by disagreeing). Then `Abdur-Rahman said (to `Uthman), I gave the oath of allegiance to you on condition that you will follow Allah's Laws and the traditions of Allah's Apostle and the traditions of the two Caliphs after him. So `Abdur-Rahman gave the oath of allegiance to him, and so did the people including the Muhajirin (emigrants) and the Ansar and the chiefs of the army staff and all the Muslims.
سیدنا مسور بن مخرمہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے کہا: وہ لوگ جنہیں سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے خلیفہ مقرر کرنے کا اختیار دیا تھا وہ جمع ہوئے اور باہم مشورہ کیا۔ ان سے سیدنا عبدالرحمن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ نےکہا: میں خلافت کے سلسلے میں آپ لوگوں سے مقابلہ نہیں کروں گا لیکن اگر تم چاہتے ہو تو تم ہی میں سے کسی کو تمہارے لیے خلیفہ مقرر کر دوں، چنانچہ سب نے خلافت کا معاملہ سیدنا عبدالرحمن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ کے سپرد کر دیا۔ جب انہوں نے انتخاب کی ذمہ داری ان کے سپرد کردی تو سب لوگ ان کی طرف مائل ہوگئے یہاں تک کہ میں نے کسی کو نہ دیکھا جو باقی حضرات کا پیچھا کرتا ہو یا ان کی ایڑی روندتا ہو۔ تمام لوگوں کا میلان سیدنا عبدالرحمن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ کی طرف ہوگیا اور وہ انہیں ان راتوں میں مشورہ دیتے رہے کہ جب وہ رات آگئی جس کی صبح ہم نے سیدنا عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ سے بیعت کی۔ سیدنا مسور رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ کچھ رات گزر جانے کے بعد سیدنا عبدالرحمن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ نے زور سے میرا دروازہ کھٹکھٹایا حتی کہ میں بیدار ہوگیا۔ انہوں نے کہا: میرا خیال ہے کہ آپ سو رہے تھے۔ اللہ کی قسم! میں ان راتوں میں بہت کم سو سکا ہوں، آپ ابھی جائیں۔ سیدنا زبیر اور سیدنا سعد رضی اللہ عنہ کو بلا لائیں۔ میں ان دونوں بزرگوں کو بلا لایا تو انہوں نے ان دونوں سے مشورہ کیا۔ مجھے پھر بلایا اور فرمایا: سیدنا علی المرتضیٰ رضی اللہ عنہ کو بلا لاؤ میں گیا اور انہیں بلا لایا تو آپ کے ساتھ مشورہ کرتے رہے حتیٰ کہ آدھی رات گزر گئی۔ پھر سیدنا علی اس حالت میں اٹھ کر گئے کہ وہ خلافت کےخواہشمند تھے۔ سیدنا عبدالرحمن ؓ کے دل میں ان کے متعلق کچھ کھٹک بھی تھی۔ پھر انہوں نے کہا: سیدنا عثمان ؓ کو بلا لاؤ، میں انہیں بلا لایا تو آپ ان سے سرگوشی کرتے رہے حتیٰ کہ مؤذن نے صبح کی اذان دے دی اور دونوں جدا جدا ہوگئے۔ جب لوگوں نے صبح کی نماز ادا کی اور وہ منبر کے پاس جمع ہوگئے تو آپ نے وہاں موجود انصار مہاجرین اور لشکروں کے قائدین کو بلایا۔ ان سب حضرات نے امسال سیدنا عمر ؓ کے ساتھ حج کیا تھا۔ جب سب لوگ جمع ہوگئے تو عبدالرحمن بن عوف ؓ نے خطبہ پڑھا اور فرمایا: اما بعد! اے علی! میں نے لوگوں کے خیالات معلوم کیے ہیں، میں نے دیکھا ہے کہ وہ سیدنا عثمان ؓ کو مقدم سمجھتے ہیں اور ان کے برابر کو خیال میں نہیں لاتے اس لیے آپ اپنے دل میں کوئی میل پیدا نہ کریں۔ پھر فرمایا: اے عثمان! میں اللہ کے دین، رسول اللہ ﷺ کی سنت اور آپ کے دور خلفاء کے طریق کے مطابق آپ کی بیعت کرتا ہوں، چنانچہ پہلے ان سے سیدنا عبدالرحمن بن عوف ؓ نے بیعت کی، پھر سب لوگوں یعنی مہاجرین وانصار فوجوں کے قائدین اور دیگر اہل اسلام نے بیعت کی۔
Sayyiduna Musawwir bin Makhramah (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, unhon ne kaha: woh log jinhein Sayyiduna Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne khalifa muqarrar karne ka ikhtiyar diya tha woh jama huye aur baham mashwara kiya. In se Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne kaha: main khilafat ke silsile mein aap logon se muqabla nahin karoon ga lekin agar tum chahte ho to tum hi mein se kisi ko tumhare liye khalifa muqarrar kar doon, chunancha sab ne khilafat ka muamla Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf (Radi Allahu Anhu) ke supurd kar diya. Jab unhon ne intikhab ki zimma-dari in ke supurd kardi to sab log in ki taraf mayel hogaye yahan tak ke main ne kisi ko na dekha jo baqi hazrat ka peecha karta ho ya in ki edi rouandta ho. Tamam logon ka milan Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf (Radi Allahu Anhu) ki taraf hogaya aur woh unhein in raaton mein mashwara dete rahe ke jab woh raat aa gayi jis ki subha hum ne Sayyiduna Usman (Radi Allahu Anhu) se bai ki. Sayyiduna Musawwir (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne bayan kiya ke kuch raat guzar jaane ke baad Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne zor se mera darwaza khatt-khataya hatta ke main bidaar hogaya. Unhon ne kaha: mera khayal hai ke aap so rahe thay. Allah ki qasam! Main in raaton mein bohat kam so saka hoon, aap abhi jayein. Sayyiduna Zubair aur Sayyiduna Saad (Radi Allahu Anhu) ko bula layein. Main in dono buzurgon ko bula laya to unhon ne in dono se mashwara kiya. Mujhe phir bulaya aur farmaya: Sayyiduna Ali Al-Murtaza (Radi Allahu Anhu) ko bula lao main gaya aur unhein bula laya to aap ke sath mashwara karte rahe hatta ke aadhi raat guzar gayi. Phir Sayyiduna Ali is halat mein uth kar gaye ke woh khilafat ke khwahish-mand thay. Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (Radi Allahu Anhu) ke dil mein in ke mutaliq kuch khattak bhi thi. Phir unhon ne kaha: Sayyiduna Usman (Radi Allahu Anhu) ko bula lao, main unhein bula laya to aap in se sargoshi karte rahe hatta ke muazzin ne subha ki azan de di aur dono juda juda hogaye. Jab logon ne subha ki namaz ada ki aur woh minbar ke paas jama hogaye to aap ne wahan maujood Ansar Muhajireen aur lashkaron ke qaideen ko bulaya. In sab hazrat ne imsaal Sayyiduna Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) ke sath hajj kiya tha. Jab sab log jama hogaye to Abdur Rahman bin Auf (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne khutba parha aur farmaya: ammabaad! Ae Ali! main ne logon ke khayalat maloom kiye hain, main ne dekha hai ke woh Sayyiduna Usman (Radi Allahu Anhu) ko muqaddam samajhte hain aur in ke barabar ko khayal mein nahin late is liye aap apne dil mein koi mail paida na karein. Phir farmaya: Ae Usman! main Allah ke deen, Rasul Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki sunnat aur aap ke dour-e-khulafa ke tareeq ke mutabiq aap ki bai karta hoon, chunancha pehle in se Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Auf (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne bai ki, phir sab logon yaani Muhajireen o Ansar foujon ke qaideen aur digar ahl-e-Islam ne bai ki.
