Hazrat Iyad Ash'ari (R.A) narrates that I was present in the battle of Yarmouk, Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (R.A) said who will race me on the horse? A young man said that I am ready to race if you don't get angry. Narrator says, so he got ahead of him, I was looking at the hairs of Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (R.A) that were scattered and he was removing them and he was riding an Arabian horse behind this young man.
حضرت عیاض ، اشعری (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ میں جنگ یرموک میں حاضر تھا، حضرت ابو عبیدہ بن جراح (رض) نے فرمایا کون مجھ سے گھوڑے کی ریس لگائے گا ؟ ایک نوجوان نے کہا کہ میں لگانے کو تیار ہوں اگر آپ غصہ نہ کریں تو، راوی فرماتے ہیں کہ پس وہ ان سے آگے نکل گیا، میں حضرت ابو عبیدہ (رض) کی زلفوں کو دیکھ رہا تھا کہ وہ بکھری ہوئی تھیں اور وہ ان کو ہٹا رہے تھے اور وہ اس نوجوان کے پیچھے عربی گھوڑے پر سوار تھے۔

Hazrat Zuhri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the Companions used to race. Hazrat Zuhri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was the first to give a general permission for it.
حضرت زھری فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے زمانے میں صحابہ ریس لگایا کرتے تھے۔ حضرت زھری (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ سب سے پہلے حضرت عمر بن خطاب (رض) نے اس پر انعام عطا فرمایا۔
Hazrat Zahri farmate hain ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke zamane mein sahaba race lagaya karte thay. Hazrat Zahri (RA) farmate hain ke sab se pehle Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (RA) ne is par inaam ata farmaya.
Hazrat Abraham (AS) states that Hazrat Uqbah raced against a man, and when the man got ahead of him, he grabbed his leg and threw him off his horse.
حضرت ابراہیم (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت علقمہ نے ایک آدمی سے ریس لگائی تو وہ شخص ان سے آگے نکل گیا تو انھوں نے اس کی لگام پکڑ کر اس کو گھوڑے سے نیچے گرا دیا۔
Hazrat Ibrahim (Razi Allah Anhu) farmate hain ke Hazrat Alqama ne ek aadmi se race lagai to wo shakhs unse aage nikal gaya to unhon ne uski lagaam pakar kar usko ghore se neeche gira diya.
Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyab (R.A) said that there is no harm in racing two horses if a third horse is also included in them. If it takes the lead, there will be a prize for winning it, and if it does not take the lead, then there will be nothing on it.
حضرت سعید بن المسیب (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ دو گھوڑوں سے ریس لگانے میں کوئی حرج نہیں ہے اگر ان میں ایک تیسرا گھوڑا بھی شامل کردیا جائے اگر وہ سبقت لے جائے تو اس کیلئے جیتنے کا انعام ہوگا اور اگر وہ سبقت نہ لے کر گیا تو اس پر کچھ نہ ہوگا۔
Hazrat Saeed bin al-Musayyab (RA) farmate hain ke do ghoron se race lagane mein koi harj nahin hai agar un mein ek teesra ghora bhi shamil kar diya jaye agar woh subqat le jaye to uske liye jeetne ka inaam hoga aur agar woh subqat na le kar gaya to us par kuch na hoga.
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Whoever enters his horse between two horses and he is certain that he will win, then this is gambling, and whoever enters his horse between two horses and he is not certain of winning, then this is not gambling."
حضرت ابوہریرہ (رض) سے مروی ہے کہ حضور اقدس (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ارشاد فرمایا : جو شخص دو گھوڑوں کے درمیان اپنا گھوڑا داخل کرے اور اس کو یقین ہے کہ وہ جیتے گا تو یہ جوا ہے، اور جو دو گھوڑوں کے درمیان اپنا گھوڑا داخل کرے اور اس کو جیتنے کا یقین نہ ہو تو پھر یہ جوا نہیں ہے۔
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) se marvi hai ki Huzoor Aqdas (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) irshad farmaya: Jo shakhs do ghoron ke darmiyan apna ghora dakhil kare aur usko yaqeen hai ki woh jeetega to yeh juwa hai, aur jo do ghoron ke darmiyan apna ghora dakhil kare aur usko jeetne ka yaqeen na ho to phir yeh juwa nahi hai.
It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hadrat Hudaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) had a horse named Ash'ab, riding on which he had outstripped people in a horse race. The narrator says: I went to him while he was sitting on his feet, his back not touching the ground, drenched in sweat due to happiness, with sweat dripping from him, and his horse was tied in the pasture, and he was looking at it, and people were coming to him and congratulating him.
حضرت عبداللہ بن حصین (رض) سے مروی ہے کہ حضرت حذیفہ (رض) کا اشھب نامی گھوڑا تھا جس پر سوار ہو کر وہ لوگوں سے گھوڑ دوڑ میں سبقت لے گئے تھے، راوی کہتے ہیں کہ میں ان کے پاس حاضر ہوا تو وہ اپنے قدموں پر بیٹھے تھے ان کی پشت زمین پر نہیں لگ رہی تھی خوشی کی وجہ سے پسینے میں شرابور تھے اور پسینہ ٹپک رہا تھا اور ان کا گھوڑا چراگاہ میں بندھا ہوا تھا اور وہ اس کی طرف دیکھ رہے تھے اور لوگ ان کے پاس آ کر ان کو مبارک باد دے رہے تھے۔
Hazrat Abdullah bin Haseen (RA) se marvi hai ki Hazrat Huzaifa (RA) ka Ashhab nami ghora tha jis par sawar ho kar woh logon se ghor daud mein subqat le gaye thay, ravi kehte hain ki mein un ke paas hazir hua to woh apne qadmon par baithe thay un ki pusht zameen par nahin lag rahi thi khushi ki wajah se paseene mein sharabor thay aur paseena tip raha tha aur un ka ghora charagah mein bandha hua tha aur woh us ki taraf dekh rahe thay aur log un ke paas aa kar un ko mubarakbad de rahe thay.
It is narrated on the authority of Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) raced a horse and took the lead in the race.
حضرت عامر (رض) سے مروی ہے کہ حضرت عمر بن خطاب (رض) نے گھوڑے کو دوڑایا اور ریس میں سبقت لے گئے۔
Hazrat Amir (RA) se marvi hai ki Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (RA) ne ghore ko doraya aur race mein sabqat le gaye.
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) kept his horse hungry for the race, then he raced the horses that were kept hungry from the place of Hafya to Thaniyatul Wada' and the horses that were not kept hungry from Thaniyatul Wada' to Masjid Bani Zuraiq.
حضرت ابن عمر (رض) سے مروی ہے کہ آنحضرت (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے اپنے گھوڑے کو مسابقہ کیلئے بھوکا رکھا، پھر جن گھوڑوں کو بھوکا رکھا تھا ان کو مقام حفیاء سے ثنیۃ الوداع تک مسابقہ کروایا اور جن گھوڑوں کو بھوکا نہیں رکھا ان کو ثنیۃ الوداع سے مسجد بنو زریق تک مسابقہ کروایا۔
Hazrat Ibn Umar (RA) se marvi hai keh Aanhazarat (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne apne ghore ko musaabiqe ke liye bhookha rakha, phir jin ghoron ko bhookha rakha tha unko maqam Hafaya se Saniyah al-Wada' tak musaabiqa karwaya aur jin ghoron ko bhookha nahi rakha unko Saniyah al-Wada' se Masjid Banu Zuraiq tak musaabiqa karwaya.
Hazrat Abu Lubayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a horse was brought to me when Hazrat Hakam bin Ayub was the ruler of Basra. We went out to have a look at it. We said that it would have been better if we had gone to Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Malik. Then we went to him. He was in a corner of the palace. We submitted, "O Abu Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him)! Did the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) compete in horse racing during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" He replied, "Yes, by Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to race his horse, whose name was Subhah. So once he took the lead, then leaves were plucked for him."
حضرت ابو لبید (رض) فرماتے ہیں کہ میرے پاس گھوڑا بھیجا گیا درآنحالیکہ حضرت حکم بن ایوب بصرہ پر حاکم تھے، ہم باہر نکلے تاکہ اس کو دیکھ سکیں، ہم نے کہا کہ اگر ہم حضرت انس (رض) بن مالک کے پاس جاتے تو اچھا ہوتا پھر آپ کی طرف گئے وہ محل کے کونے میں تھے، ہم نے ان سے عرض کیا کہ اے ابو حمزہ (رض) ! کیا صحابہ کرام (رض) عہد نبوی میں گھوڑوں کی دوڑ میں مسابقہ کیا کرتے تھے ؟ انھوں نے کہا جی ہاں خدا کی قسم نبی اکرم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اپنے گھوڑے پر ریس لگایا کرتے تھے جس کا نام سبحہ تھا پس ایک مرتبہ وہ سبقت لے گیا پھر اس کیلئے پتے توڑے گئے۔
Hazrat Abu Lubayd (RA) farmate hain ki mere pass ghora bheja gaya daranhaaliek Hazrat Hukm bin Ayub Basra par hakim thay, hum bahar nikle takay usko dekh saken, hum ne kaha ki agar hum Hazrat Anas (RA) bin Malik ke pass jatay to acha hota phir aap ki taraf gaye woh mahal ke konay mein thay, hum ne unse arz kya ki aye Abu Hamza (RA)! kya Sahaba karam (RA) ahd nabvi mein ghoron ki dour mein muqabla kya kartay thay? Unhon ne kaha ji haan khuda ki qasam Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) apne ghoray par race lagaya kartay thay jiska naam Subah tha pas aik martaba woh sabaqat le gaya phir uskay liye pattay toray gaye.
It is narrated on the authority of Hadrat Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) that two persons saw a male bustard in a state that both of them were in the state of Ihram. They both competed in (hunting) it. Both of them hit it with their walking sticks and broke its (leg). Then both of them came to Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) while Hadrat 'Abdur Rahman bin 'Auf (may Allah be pleased with him) was present with him. Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Hadrat Ibn 'Auf (may Allah be pleased with him), "What is your opinion?" He replied, "This is gambling although it was a competition."
حضرت بکر (رض) سے مروی ہے کہ دو شخصوں نے ہرن دیکھا اس حال میں کہ وہ دونوں محرم تھے، ان دونوں نے اس میں مقابلہ کیا دونوں نے عصا کے ساتھ مارا اور اس کو توڑ دیا، پھر وہ دونوں حضرت عمر (رض) کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئے اور آپ (رض) کے ساتھ حضرت عبدالرحمن بن عوف (رض) تشریف فرما تھے، حضرت عمر (رض) نے حضرت ابن عوف (رض) سے پوچھا آپ کی کیا رائے ہے ؟ حضرت ابن عوف (رض) نے فرمایا یہ جوا ہے اگرچہ یہ مسابقہ تھا۔
Hazrat Bakr (RA) se marvi hai keh do shakhson ne hiran dekha iss hal mein keh woh donon mehram thay, in donon ne iss mein muqabla kiya donon ne asa ke sath mara aur iss ko tor diya, phir woh donon Hazrat Umar (RA) ki khidmat mein hazir huay aur aap (RA) ke sath Hazrat Abdul Rahman bin Auf (RA) tashreef farma thay, Hazrat Umar (RA) ne Hazrat Ibn Auf (RA) se poocha aap ki kya rai hai? Hazrat Ibn Auf (RA) ne farmaya yeh juwa hai agarchay yeh musaabiqa tha.
Hazrat Ja'far (R.A.) narrates from his father that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) organized a horse race and set a prize of a few ounces of silver for it, and he organized a camel race and did not set a prize for it.
حضرت جعفر (رض) اپنے والد سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے گھوڑ دوڑ میں مسابقہ جاری فرمایا اور اس میں چند اوقیہ چاندی کا انعام مقرر فرمایا، اور اونٹ کی ریس جاری فرمائی اور اس میں انعام مقرر نہ فرمایا۔
Hazrat Jaffar (RA) apne walid se riwayat karte hain ke Nabi Akram (SAW) ne ghor daud mein musaqa jari farmaya aur usme chand auqiya chandi ka inaam muqarar farmaya, aur unt ki race jari farmayi aur usme inaam muqarar na farmaya.
