Ibn Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, "When you see it (the crescent for Ramadan), fast, and when you see it (the crescent for Shawwal), break the fast. If it is obscured from you, then complete thirty days (of Ramadan)."
ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ "جب تم اسے (رمضان کے چاند) کو دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھو اور جب تم اسے (شوال کے چاند) کو دیکھ لو تو روزہ افطار کرلو اور اگر تم پر (چاند) ابر آلود ہو تو رمضان کے تیس دن پورے کرلو"۔
Ibn Umar Radi Allahu Anhuma kehte hain ki maine Rasool Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ko ye farmate huye suna hai ki "Jab tum usay (Ramzan ke chand) ko dekh lo to roza rakho aur jab tum usay (Shawwal ke chand) ko dekh lo to roza iftari karlo aur agar tum par (chand) abr aalud ho to Ramzan ke tees din pure karlo".
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Fast when you see it (the new moon of Ramadan) and break the fast when you see it (the new moon of Shawwal). But if the weather is cloudy for you, then complete thirty days."
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم (رمضان کا) چاند دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھو اور جب (شوال کا) چاند دیکھ لو تو روزہ افطار کرو، اور اگر تم پر آسمان ابر آلود ہو تو رمضان کے تیس دن پورے کرلو۔“
Hazrat Abu Hurairah razi Allah anhu se riwayat hai keh Rasul Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya: "Jab tum (Ramzan ka) chand dekh lo to roza rakho aur jab (Shawwal ka) chand dekh lo to roza iftar karo, aur agar tum par aasman abar aalud ho to Ramzan ke tees din pure karlo."
Yunus narrated from Ibn Shihab that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When you see the new moon (of Ramadan), observe the fast; and when you see it (the new moon of Shawwal), break the fast; and if the new moon is obscured from you, then complete thirty days (of Ramadan)."
حضرت یونس ابن شہاب سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: "جب تم رمضان کا چاند دیکھو تو روزہ رکھو اور جب تم شوال کا چاند دیکھو تو روزہ افطار کرو اور اگر تم پر چاند مخفی ہو جائے تو رمضان کے تیس دن پورے کرو۔"
Hazrat Younas bin Shahab se riwayat karte hain ki Rasul Allah SAW ne farmaya: "Jab tum Ramzan ka chand dekho to roza rakho aur jab tum Shawwal ka chand dekho to roza iftar karo aur agar tum par chand makhfi ho jaye to Ramzan ke tees din pure karo."
Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to strive to observe the crescent moon of Sha'ban as he didn't do for any other month. Then, he would fast upon sighting the crescent of Ramadan. But if it was hidden by clouds, he would complete thirty days (of Sha'ban) and then fast."
عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم شعبان کے چاند کو دیکھنے کی اتنی کوشش فرماتے تھے جتنی اور کسی مہینے کیلئے نہ کرتے تھے پھر جب رمضان کا چاند نظر آجاتا تو روزے رکھتے اور اگر ابر کی وجہ سے چاند نہ دکھائی دیتا تو تیس دن پورے کرکے روزے رکھتے۔
Ayesha raziallahu anha kahti hain ke Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam Shaban ke chand ko dekhne ki itni koshish farmate thay jitni aur kisi mahine ke liye na karte thay phir jab Ramazan ka chand nazar aajata to rozey rakhte aur agar abr ki wajah se chand na dikhayi deta to tees din pure karke rozey rakhte.
Ibn Umar narrated that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) mentioned Ramadan and said, "Do not fast until you see the crescent moon, and do not cease fasting till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy for you, then calculate its appearance."
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے رمضان کا ذکر کیا اور فرمایا ”جب تک تم چاند نہ دیکھ لو روزہ نہ رکھو اور جب تک تم اسے نہ دیکھ لو روزہ چھوڑو لیکن اگر تم پر موسم ابر آلود ہو تو اس کے ظاہر ہونے کا حساب لگا لو “ ۔
Hazrat Ibn Umar Radi Allahu Anhuma se riwayat hai ki Rasul Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne Ramzan ka zikr kya aur farmaya "Jab tak tum chand na dekh lo roza na rakho aur jab tak tum usay na dekh lo roza choro lekin agar tum par mausam abr aalud ho to uske zahir hone ka hisab laga lo".
Ibn Abbas narrated: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: "I have seen the crescent moon last night." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do you testify that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, and that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger?" He said, "Yes." He (ﷺ) said, "Get up, Bilal, and announce amongst the people that they must observe fast tomorrow."
ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک دیہاتی آدمی نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کی کہ میں نے کل چاند دیکھا ہے۔ تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کیا تم گواہی دیتے ہو کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں اور یہ کہ محمد اس کے بندے اور اس کے رسول ہیں؟ اس نے کہا جی ہاں۔ تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا بلال! اٹھو اور لوگوں میں اعلان کردو کہ وہ کل روزہ رکھیں۔
Ibn Abbas raza Allahu anhu kehte hain ki ek dehati aadmi Nabi Kareem sallallahu alaihi wasallam ki khidmat mein hazir hua aur arz ki ki maine kal chand dekha hai to aap sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya kya tum gawahi dete ho ki Allah ke siwa koi mabood barhaq nahi aur ye ki Muhammad uske bande aur uske rasool hain usne kaha ji haan to aap sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya Bilal utho aur logon mein elaan kardo ki wo kal roza rakhen
Yahya ibn `Abd Allah ibn Salim narrated from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn `Umar: “The people sighted the new moon (of Ramadan), and I saw it too. I informed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about it, so he observed the fast and commanded the people to fast.”
یحییٰ بن عبد اللہ بن سلیم اپنے والد سے ، انہوں نے اپنے دادا سے ، حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کی کہ لوگوں نے (رمضان کا) چاند دیکھا اور میں نے بھی دیکھا تو میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو اس کی خبر دی تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے روزہ رکھا اور لوگوں کو روزہ رکھنے کا حکم دیا ۔
Yahya bin Abdullah bin Saleem apne walid se, unhon ne apne dada se, Hazrat Ibn Umar Radi Allaho Anho se riwayat ki keh logon ne (Ramzan ka) chand dekha aur main ne bhi dekha to main ne Rasul Allah Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ko is ki khabar di to aap Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ne roza rakha aur logon ko roza rakhne ka hukum diya.
Abu Bakra narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Two months whose blessings never decrease are Ramadan and Dhul-Hijjah."
حضرت ابو بکرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا ”دو مہینے ایسے ہیں جن کی برکتوں میں کمی نہیں آتی، رمضان اور ذوالحجہ“۔
Hazrat Abu Bakra Radi Allahu Anhu se riwayat hai keh Nabi Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya do mahine aise hain jin ki barkaton mein kami nahin aati, Ramzan aur Zul Hijjah.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "How many months are left?" Meaning Ramadan. We said, "Two months and ten days." The Prophet said, "Two months have passed and seven remain, so seek it on this night." Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The month is like this and this," three times. He gestured ten times, then ten times again, and then once with nine.
ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”رمضان کے کتنے مہینے باقی ہیں؟“ ہم نے کہا: ”دو مہینے دس دن۔“ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”دو مہینے گزر چکے اور سات رہ گئے ہیں، لہذا اس رات اسے تلاش کرو۔“ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مہینہ اس طرح اور اس طرح ہے،“ تین مرتبہ۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دس مرتبہ اشارہ کیا، پھر دس مرتبہ پھر اشارہ کیا، اور پھر ایک بار نو مرتبہ اشارہ کیا۔
Abu Hurairah razi Allah anhu se riwayat hai keh Rasul Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya: "Ramzan ke kitne mahine baqi hain?" Hum ne kaha: "Do mahine das din." Aap sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya: "Do mahine guzar chuke hain aur saat reh gaye hain, lihaza is raat ise talaash karo." Phir Rasul Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya: "Mahina is tarah aur is tarah hai," teen martaba. Aap sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne das martaba ishara kiya, phir das martaba phir ishara kiya, aur phir ek baar nau martaba ishara kiya.
Narrated Ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The month is thirty days, and the month is twenty-nine days, so if the month of Ramadan is unclear to you (due to clouds), then complete thirty days of fasting."
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ ”مہینہ تیس دن کا ہوتا ہے اور مہینہ انتیس دن کا ہوتا ہے، پس اگر تم پر رمضان کا مہینہ (بادلوں کی وجہ سے) مخفی ہو جائے تو تم تیس دن کی گنتی پوری کر لو۔“
Hazrat Ibn Umar Radi Allahu Anhuma se riwayat hai ki Rasul Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya ki “Mahina tees din ka hota hai aur mahina untees din ka hota hai, pas agar tum par Ramzan ka mahina (badlon ki wajah se) mukhtfi ho jaye to tum tees din ki ginti puri kar lo.”
Ibn Juraij reported: Abu Zubair said that he heard Jabir bin 'Abdullah saying, "The Prophet (ﷺ) separated from (i.e., divorced) his wives for a month. The Prophet (ﷺ) went out in the morning of the 29th. Some people said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we have reached the morning of the 29th.' He (ﷺ) said, 'The month may be twenty-nine (days).' The Prophet (ﷺ) then clapped thrice, twice with all the fingers of his hands and the third time with nine fingers."
ابن جریج نے بیان کیا: ابوزبیر نے کہا کہ انہوں نے جابر بن عبداللہ سے سنا، "نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی بیویوں سے ایک مہینے کے لئے علیحدگی اختیار کر لی۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم انتیسویں تاریخ کی صبح باہر تشریف لائے۔ کچھ لوگوں نے کہا، 'یا رسول اللہ! ہم انتیسویں تاریخ کی صبح کو پہنچ گئے ہیں۔' آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا، 'مہینہ انتیس (دن) کا بھی ہو سکتا ہے۔' پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تین بار تالی बजائی، دو بار اپنے ہاتھوں کی تمام انگلیوں سے اور تیسری بار نو انگلیوں سے۔"
Ibn Juraij ne bayan kya: Abuzubair ne kaha ki unhon ne Jabir bin Abdullah se suna, "Nabi Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne apni biwiyon se ek mahine ke liye alagi ikhtiyar kar li. Nabi Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam untisween tareekh ki subah bahar tashreef laaye. Kuch logon ne kaha, 'Ya Rasulullah! Hum untisween tareekh ki subah ko pahunche hain.' Aap Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya, 'Mahina untis (din) ka bhi ho sakta hai.' Phir Nabi Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne teen baar taali bajai, do baar apne hathon ki tamam ungliyon se aur teesri baar nau ungliyon se."
Jabalah bin Suhaim reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The month is such and such," gesturing with his fingers twice, "and like this," gesturing a third time with his thumb.
صحابہ کرام سے حضرت جابرہ بن سحیم رضی اللہ عنہ روایت کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: "مہینہ اتنا ہوتا ہے،" اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی انگلیوں سے دو بار اشارہ کیا، "اور اتنا ہوتا ہے،" اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تیسری بار اپنے انگوٹھے سے اشارہ کیا۔
Sahaba kiram se Hazrat Jabirah bin Saheem radi Allahu anhu riwayat karte hain ki Rasul Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya: "Mahina itna hota hai," aur aap sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne apni ungliyon se do bar ishara kiya, "aur itna hota hai," aur aap sallallahu alaihi wasallam ne teesri baar apne ungoothe se ishara kiya.
Ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The month is like this, the month is like this," holding up his three fingers to begin with, then holding up his fingers for the last three, except for the last one.
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مہینہ یوں ہوتا ہے، مہینہ یوں ہوتا ہے“ اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پہلے اپنی تین انگلیاں کھڑی کیں، پھر آخری انگلی کے سوا، آخری تین کے لیے اپنی انگلیاں اٹھائیں۔
Hazrat Ibn Umar Radi Allahu Anhuma se riwayat hai ki Rasul Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya: “Mahina yun hota hai, mahina yun hota hai“ aur aap Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne pehle apni teen ungliyan khari kin, phir akhri ungli ke siwa, akhri teen ke liye apni ungliyan uthayein.
Anas bin Malik narrated: A group testified before the Prophet (ﷺ) that they had sighted the crescent moon. So, the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered them to observe their Eid the following day.
حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ کے روبرو کچھ لوگوں نے گواہی دی کہ انہوں نے چاند دیکھ لیا ہے تو آپ ﷺ نے انہیں حکم دیا کہ وہ کل عید منائیں۔
Hazrat Anas bin Malik Radi Allahu Anhu se riwayat hai ke Nabi Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ke rubaroo kuch logon ne gawahi di ke unhon ne chand dekh liya hai to Aap Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne unhen hukum diya ke woh kal eid manaen.
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Fast at its sighting, and break the fast at its sighting. But if the weather is cloudy for you, then complete thirty."
حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”جب تم اسے دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھو اور جب تم اسے دیکھ لو تو روزہ افطار کرو اور اگر تم پر آسمان ابر آلود ہو تو تیس دن پورے کرلو“۔

Hudhayfah reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Do not fast until you sight the new moon, and do not cease fasting until you sight it; and if the new moon is obscured from you, then complete the count."
حضرت حذیفہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تک تم چاند نہ دیکھ لو روزہ نہ رکھو اور جب تک تمہیں (شوال کا) چاند نظر نہ آ جائے روزہ چھوڑ نہ دو، اور اگر تم پر (چاند نظر آنے میں) ابر وغیرہ حائل ہو جائے تو (رمضان کے) تیس (دن) پورے کر لو۔“
Hazrat Huzaifa Radi Allahu Anhu se riwayat hai ki Rasul Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya: "Jab tak tum chand na dekh lo roza na rakho aur jab tak tumhen (Shawwal ka) chand nazar na aa jaye roza chhor na do, aur agar tum par (chand nazar aane mein) abr waghaira hail ho jaye to (Ramzan ke) tees (din) pure kar lo."
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Fast at its sighting and break the fast at its sighting. But if the weather is cloudy for you, then complete thirty days and then break the fast."
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ” جب تم چاند دیکھ لو تو روزہ رکھو اور جب تمہیں چاند نظر آجائے تو روزہ افطار کرلو اور اگر تم پر موسم ابر آلود ہو تو شعبان کے تیس دن پورے کرلو پھر روزہ افطار کرلو “
